Chicken Barra is an authentic Chicken recipe which is also known as Murgh Barrah / Chicken Barrah. This tempting chicken gravy recipe made from fried onion, cashew paste, cream, chicken, and aromatic spices. This Chicken Barra gravy is rich in flavor and goes well with Naan, Paratha, or Rice!
Ingredients -
(Serves 4)
To Marinate Chicken
1 Kg Chicken
1 Tbsp Red Chilli Powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
2 Green Chilled (chopped)
1/4 cup Coriander Leaves
1 tsp Ginger Paste
1 tsp Garlic Paste
1/4 tsp Pepper Powder
1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 cup Beaten Yogurt
1 Cup Fired Onion (crushed)
1 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Cinnamon Powder
1 tbsp Ghee
To Cook Chicken
- 1 Tbsp Ghee
- 1 Tbsp Oli
- Marinated Chicken
For Making Gravy
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Ghee
- 1 Tsp Ginger Paste
- 1 Tsp Garlic Paste
- 1 Cup Fired Onion paste
- 5 Tomatoes (Boiled & pureed)
- 1/2 cup Cashew Nut paste
- 2 Green Chillies (chopped)
- 1/2 cup beaten Yogurt
- 1 cup Water
- Salt
- 1/4 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- 1/4 tsp Pepper powder
- Chaat Masala
- 1 tSP fenugreek powder
- 2 tbsp Cream
For Smoked Flavour
- Coal
- 1 Tbsp Ghee
For garnishing
- Fresh Cream dried fenugreek
- Coriander leaves
- Lemon juice

What is so yummy about this except looks. There is so much of curd, tomatoes and if that was not enough we have lemon juice. I am afraid it will be too sour. I don't think, I will try this. Good luck to you guys.
Thanks a ton Smita...made this today and it was very well accepted and appreciated by my friends. Have seen a lot of comments asking why not add the gravy to the chicken and that is exactly what I did...the only variance to your process. Adding the smokiness takes the dish to another level. May be she did not advise adding gravy to the chicken, because she wanted to continue to cook in the hot pan on the flame...
I have tried this recipe..and it’s one of the most delicious chicken recipes ever, though time consuming but it has like the old Mughlai flavours which can take you back to the old Lucknow lanes…! Loved making and eating this recipe. ❣️
