Chad, I think its cool you partnered up with MB. I was an MB member for 12 months and as a newer bass angler at the time, it was well worth it. It gave me a great foundation in a broad in range of techniques.
So, I was messing around the other day...had no waits in the yak to rig up a good Carolina rig....but wanted to flip this lizard, so I rigged up the ultra light with just the hook and lizard and had a good ol time.
Chad I swear I’m the polar opposite fisherman. Sunday was hot and muggy. Brown dirty water. Catching perch all day but no bass. Texas rigged chigger craws up in the lily pads all day along edges and nothing. Then I through a panther Martin to get some ultralight fish and BAM they come out to play at the height of the heat in the day??? Idk man.
I imagine if you check the solunar tables they moved up shallow to feed right when they were supposed to. Also, lots of bass stay shallow even in the worst heat. It’s just that a ton of them also move off into deeper water
Good Video Chad. In all of my years of fishing, this is the one way I haven't fished. Many people I know and that I have fished with do use it. I have had so much success in other factors that I just never tried. I will say, if you are fishing deeper weed lines this is the perfect way to do it. I guess I need to set it up and do it. BTW, I have used the brass and bead method with my Texas rigging many times.
Thank you Chad! There's some big hybrid striper white bass (Wipers) in a Ohio lake I been trying to hook. They are deep channel of the lake and love natural shad swimbait. I'll try Carolina rig. I hooked one 2ft plus but on my lite set up, forgot the net, broke 8lb braid right beside my kayak seat
Tried fishing this in the spring some-mostly through old pad stems. Never got bit, but I always felt like I was going to crack a giant with that in shallow water where it’s probably rarely seen.
I set up my Carolina rig pretty much the same way except I find using a 2/O or 3/O offset light wire hook works better. It helps The lure float better and a little bit better action. Just make sure you get a quality Light wire hook.
Chad. Biggest issue I have kayak fishing is boat positioning. Not always do I want to anchor down and Trying to deal with wind and stay on a spot or drifting down the bank at a good distance is just frustrating. Feel like I waste a lot of time positioning and not fishing.
I’ve got several videos covering this. There are a number of solutions. Put your anchor down slightly even as much as a few inches can create enough drag at times to solve it. I do the same thing with the Power Pole. Another option is to add and anchor trolley and drift chute, which is what I did before I had a motor on my kayaks.
@@ChadHooverFishing the tip on lowering anchor slightly is good idea. Never thought of that. I’ll have to look to see if you have a drift chute video I know nothing about them.
Most of the Zman ElazTech baits float, floating worms like Grande Bass and several manufacturers have soft plastics that float for this type of rig. I guess I shouldn’t have assumed that people knew this. Thanks for pointing that out
Good stuff Chad! I have only used C-rig a few times, never got bit. I’m sure I didn’t stick with it long enough, and maybe didn’t use it right. Question: small lake I frequent has lots of larger rocks/boulders and I am always concerned about snagging. Any tips for fishing the C-rig around larger rocks?
I love your videos, but Monster Bass is a rip off. I tried them for 6 months and even talked to the owner. Their stuff is crap. Sorry. Just being honest.
@@ChadHooverFishing One month I received several plugs that ran sideways. Another month I received soft baits that were very cheaply made. I contacted the company & they said they would send me a different box. Then they sent me the same stuff again. The owner would text me, but would never reply to my texts, calls or emails. Seriously, I gave them a try (6 months). I received very little value for the price I paid. If you like surprises, you'll get them. If you like good fishing lures, go somewhere else.

I learned how to throw a carolina rig this year and it's been slaying on the Upper Mississippi river for big smallies.
Nice, what’s your bait of choice for the Carolina Rig?
Awesome tips on the Carolina rig. This is something I need to work on and learn more about. thanks for all the tips.!
Love the topic but as a new angle, I’d love to hear more such as the line type, weights and how deep do you fish. Again great topic! Thank you.
Thanks and will do

Thanks Aaron and that’s exactly what’s great about MB

The lizard is a great lure all around and often forgotten
Sweet brother. I actually need to try a C-Rig. I’ve never really fished it before. Don’t know why.
Another great tutorial. Always use the Carolina rig chasing big Rainbows in lakes but might have to try with the green fish. Thanks for the guidance👍

That should work really well, get after them!! Good luck

What baits do you all use that “float back up”? I think every one I’ve ever used just drags along on the bottom behind the weight.

Yes. Use a little lighter weight and a floating lure. Also, use a lighter wire hook so that that bait can float up a bit
@@ChadHooverFishing thank you sir!!
I always forget about the Carolina rig. I just start with the Texas rig.
What type and # test of line do you like to use as main line and leader?
Depends on the depth, cover and conditions but mostly I use 30# main line, and 15-20# flouro leader
What happened to the Stohlquist Piseas PFD? What have you switched to?
That’s the Stohlquist PiSeas that I’m wearing in this video.
@@ChadHooverFishing fooled me by changing up the patches and Velcro. 😀
Never use the Carolina rig. Maybe I should check it out. Do you use the same set up at a jig or t-rig?
Similar but not the same
nice video, very helpful!
Thanks buddy
Good info, Thanks!
Thanks Norm
Another home run video 👌
Thank you Tye
Just stay above the thermocline!!
Ha! That’s a whole different video. Great point though
Carolina rig? Are we back in 1980? lol
Yeap.
I'm new n cool
