The reason Uuno is so old compared to the rest is that he had been avoiding the draft, but in this movie his father-in-law (who hates Uuno) was selected as the Minister of Defense, and the first thing he did, was to send Uuno to the army to complete his military service that he had been skipping. The father-in-law is always trying to get back at Uuno, for always managing to make his life a living hell (it is almost always his own fault, and his plans backfiring on him) and to get his daughter to divorce from Uuno, so he can get rid of him for good

Ensio Itkonen was this long time driving school teacher and instructor, and appeared in many TV and radio programs in the old days to educate people about driving and traffic laws etc. Hugely influential man in our ''recent'' history.
Uuno's time in the army is filled with mistaken identities. Uuno became a special case when he was mistaken as a barber while getting his hair cut. The scene doesn't have English subtitles, but there's not much spoken anyway: "Jussi Sokuri Hiustenleikkaaja": "Jussi Sokuri Hiustenleikkaaja".

Is there English subtitles in Uuno Turhapuro DVD:s? Better be sure before buying. I hope there is, but not sure. Never watched them from DVD, only TV.
I found the army dvd online and it says only finnish and swedish subtitles
