- Ironman World Champs has been in Kona since 1982 but getting here is not easy and you can only see so much of the course whilst watching the live coverage! So we thought, for all the spectators and future competitors, we’d show you the REAL Kona course where the race will be won & lost!

I see you guys got your bike with you. How did the transport go? Was it do-able with the transfer in mainland US? (asking because in doubt to rent or not for the 70.3 on Hawaii).
ITU Worlds. And Norseman would be incredible!
I just arrived and had no issues with my bike arriving. I did the 70.3 in 2021 and again no issues with the bike travel.

I've been there twice in 2006 and 2008 and watching this video made me feel like I was back there again. It's amazing how nothing has changed; it looks exactly the same.
thanks for taking us through the course! i hope one day to qualify for it, and then raise the requisite funds to get myself out there lol. looking forward to seeing how the GTN team performs next week!
That was interesting and the three take aways are:
1. Swim is amazing.
2. Bike and run - mega boring.
3. Visit to Kona is not worth the money.

unusual to see rain in the background on dig me beach. was this filmed later in the day?
Seeing this makes me think how many more races could host the WC without it costing an absolute fortune. I think Ironman has continued to push for more money making it barely a WC and mostly just a race for the rich. I would prefer they move to a rotating location. Reduce the field size and have the AGers on one day and the pros a couple days later
Kona should stay the WC for ever in my eyes. Go back to 2500 male and female athletes on 1 day!

The IRONMAN triathlon world championship moved to Kona in February 1981. in 1978, 1979 and 1980 it was held on the island of OAHU. when it moved to Kona it was held in February 1981 once again in February 1982 and then again in October 1982. It has been in October ever cents other than the Covid years🤙

Bring back the mass start. 2000 male and female on 1 day ! If you can’t Qualify than bad luck . Ironman is ruin😢the WC all in for their corporate greed

The boring nature of the riding course is the reason why some locals will leisurely take trips on recumbent bikes. Sometimes even with a trailer behind for grocery shopping. It's a straight, wide curb on an overall well maintained road. Very different than here on the island of Oahu with our century ride and Honolulu Marathon.
Keeping an eye out for stinging bees should keep you alert on the bike course. This is a real problem on all of the Hawaiian Islands. Lemon eucalyptus repellant works the best though you can still get stung on fast downhill sections. Spray and dab this repellant on all skin and clothing, especially the front and front inside of your cycling shorts.
I see this video today 11 months later but it so perfect. On my way out , 4 h bicycle waiting. I will visualize the Kona course.
I don’t got windy today but I will make some long hills , rolling course .
I got respect for those winds in Kona. Actually I don’t like throwing wind from the side. I think I really need to take a lot nutrition in the turn point before the decent , cause I will not be able to do anything than keep my bike on the road.
Also, coming from north of Sweden, I’m far from perfect in hot weather.

The "REAL" Kona Course... nice dig at STG ;) Don't slight that course... the bike was way more brutal with the steeper climbs and just as much wind - not to mention the pure lack of "draft legal" parts outside of the first out and back section. In "Kona" can draft all the way up to mi 40, then the way back in town - I have the video proof :)

You say you’ll show us the real Kona course then proceed to do a worse job than the broadcast by not even showing a map.
