Hey Vic! My dad started feeling bad on his last visit to see me and the family, so off to the ER we go. Got right in, quickly diagnosed his condition (heart), got the meds, then out again. 20 mins. No bill, no paperwork. Oh yeah, did I mention I live in Denmark? Much love from a New Yorker living overseas.
I work in medical insurance collections (collecting for insurance) for over 20 years. I always recommend either going to the insurance carrier website or calling your insurance. They will give you the names of at least 3 doctors that are in network. Also, if it’s a specialist, ask if you have to get a referral from your primary care doctor. This way you don’t have to call 10 doctors to find one. If you need any other info let me know. 😁
I had this issue when I went to the dentist over a chipped tooth. After fixing it, they suggested a night guard in case I grind my teeth. It costs just over $500, but they don’t take my mom’s insurance for certain treatments. Like, what’s the point of insurance if it isn’t going to cover everything?
Husband broke his hand. Went to emergency. X-Ray, sling and appointment made for the Specialist at a specialized Hand Clinic. Saw her, 3 times, specific appointments for progress. Google how most hospitals are contracting separately medical corporations for doctors, procedures and treatments. They are not in our medical insurance programs, there by we, the patients are billed separately. Oh it’s out there. It’s real. That’s what pisses me off.
Welcome to the U.S. healthcare system. Wait until you get to pick a anesthesiologist. Collectively, as a group, they all agreed to not take any insurance. So, when like me, you get to play a game over six months of receiving a bill of $6,000 from the billing company for the anesthesiologist, calling the insurance company about the bill, the insurance company calling the billing company only to be told by one of the billing agents that "You won't have to pay more than the $150 you agreed to at the time of the appointment (wasn't actually an agreement, the form said that the cost usually didn't exceed $150.00.) but they kept sending surprise bills to the patient so that the patient would put more pressure on the insurance company to see if they would pay the anesthesiologist more money. I recommend downloading an app that records your phone calls so that you have a record of the call.
I always find it amusing when I hear of Americans talk about health insurance and going to the doctor. Here in Canada, healthcare is free, well everybody pays taxes just like you do in the US however our taxes go back into providing us with free healthcare so doctors appointments are free, surgeries are free and most medication is free so whether you're rich or poor or middle class you don't have to worry about healthcare. Of course if you're rich and want to pay for private nurses and everything on top of the free health care that your business but regular healthcare is free. I never understood why an industrialized country such as the US can't give their citizens free healthcare, it's not rocket science.
In Canada, the usual example for Americans, depending on the province and location you may find a clinic that will take the provincial health insurance but.. they will likely have a wait list because they are full which means you would have to go to a clinic that you pay for it. Not only that but we pay really high taxes here so in the end just because it is free does not mean it's better. MRI, CT scans just about everything requires an appointment which have to be booked months in advanced maybe even a year and may get rescheduled several times. Unless you are literally in the ER and dying you will not get anything other than routine care, xray or ultrasound if you broke something or are in severe pain without an appointment. Some people end up in the hospital and die because they were waiting for an appointment and whatever was wrong deteriorated while they were waiting. Grass isn't always greener, just saying.
Even when i find a doc its an hour drive and they go out of their way to NOT find out whats wrong. Its about money. Volume of patients and visits not quality.
Sounds like a pcl tear. Had the reconstruction for that, not fun to go through, but it helps. If you push on your shin near your knee do you have a lot of give?
That is why I like living in Canada. No matter what are you almost are we are covered 100% by government insurance no questions asked mobile to pay to see the doctor any cases some of the medicine is even covered
LOL!!! It's so frustrating to say the least. The HMO's are the worst! NOTHING is as it used to be and never will be again. When I make an appointment to see a Doctor, I want to SEE the Doctor, not some other yoyo in the office. Trust has to earned and should never be given freely. I want to see the same person over and over again - not someone new every time I go in.
Getting old isnt for the faint of heart. I dont know why we cant have universal medical like other countries. It cant be any worse than what we have right now. High prices, high drug costs are killing us all.
I know! I know! I know!!! I hate searching for a good Doctor none of them take Insurance period! One doctor told me it was about $400 to see him. He's at Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan! Is he f*ckin' God?
Next time just call your insurance company. They will tell you who is in the network. I'm lucky, my doctor ( PCP) makes sure they are in network before he refers me to them.
Vic, don't you have a primary care physician who could refer you to a doctor in your area? You would be able to find out if they take your insurance by reading online or talking to their office? Capiche?
Hi Vic! Maybe it’s a rhetorical question, but it’s not doctors accepting insurance, it’s insurance not accepting doctors. Insurance won’t pay doctors who charge too much or don’t measure up to their standard of care
we all have to have car insurance but we don't use it to get the oil changed...we all have to have home insurance but we don't use it to paint the kitchen...and we all have health insurance and we have to use it every freaking time for even the smallest thing.... the regular family doctor charges $350 for 15 minutes.... and every office now has to have a full time person just to deal with insurance forms & claims... and don't get me started on the eyes & teeth... this has got to change and now the virus and pre-existing stuff there's plenty to get ticked off about....
Medical insurance is an overpriced luxury on top of being a racket. HMO$ are crooks! Glad you're ok Vic, looking good👍 ✌💖
HMO!!! To much!! PPO is best

Best of luck Vic! I'm thoroughly not looking forward to getting older...
I know someone with stomach cancer that was turned down by Memorial Sloan Kettering because they did not take his insurance.
Call your Insurance first they can give you a list of doctors in network.
I got me a second insurance both medical and dental!
Hope you feel better Vic, you absolutely right this insurance stuff is bullshit
We wouldn't need insurance if medical prices weren't 5x the global average
Vic- Try going to the ER in the middle of the night with the wrong insurance- EMTALA or not you'll wait until they find a doctor who accepts.
Hey man ! Great Job I FEEL YOU lol
In NJ you can get the price down with cash.
Getting old isnt for the faint of heart. I dont know why we cant have universal medical like other countries. It cant be any worse than what we have right now. High prices, high drug costs are killing us all.
🤣😂 I fucking cant
I know! I know! I know!!! I hate searching for a good Doctor none of them take Insurance period! One doctor told me it was about $400 to see him. He's at Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan! Is he f*ckin' God?
In my country, I have never spent a single cent to see a doctor.
We had our insurance find us a Dr that took our insurance and felt damn lucky that they could . I'm pretty sure they felt lucky too.
Next time just call your insurance company. They will tell you who is in the network. I'm lucky, my doctor ( PCP) makes sure they are in network before he refers me to them.
Move here to Montreal
Thus making the case for Universal healthcare.
Could only imagine. lol.
we all have to have car insurance but we don't use it to get the oil changed...we all have to have home insurance but we don't use it to paint the kitchen...and we all have health insurance and we have to use it every freaking time for even the smallest thing.... the regular family doctor charges $350 for 15 minutes.... and every office now has to have a full time person just to deal with insurance forms & claims... and don't get me started on the eyes & teeth... this has got to change and now the virus and pre-existing stuff there's plenty to get ticked off about....
