  • Big walleyes with soft plastics in South Dakota’s Glacial Lakes Region. Jason Mitchell joins guide Marcus Quam from Reel Therapy Guide Service. Early season walleye fishing in shallow water right after the spawn. Positioning the boat in seven to eight feet of water targeting wind blown shorelines of rock and gravel in shallow bays with warmer surface temperatures.
The top presentation ended up being a 3/16th ounce Northland Slurp jig head rigged with an Impulse Paddle Tail Smelt Minnow. The jig and plastic was paired up with six pound high vis monofilament which causes the jig to hang and glide more which is important in cold water that is less than sixty degrees. Tips for finding spring walleye along with tips for using soft plastics to catch walleye.

I started using plastics for walleyes 3 years ago and it's primarily all I use now. I've heard plenty of skeptics tell me you have to use live bait like shinners and chubbs but I disagree. In Minnesota shinners are up to $13 a dozen and no matter what you do a bunch die before you hit the water.

Great video. Very informational. Curious why you release all of your fish?

We do eat fish and keep small fish to eat at times but just eat them fresh. I get to fish a lot when I am home and just keep them if I want to eat fish that day but just keep what I need for that meal.

More smallmouth bass than largemouths in that country but there are some really nice bass. Excellent smallmouths but we have caught some nice largemouths as well.

@@demoderby181 This is a little editing technique called B-roll footage to be employed when the host or guest is speaking about something that may not have amazing reel effect in the head shot interview. They are the same fish, but the 17:00 is file footage from the initial catch.
