I hope you are making bank on your videos Luke! Keep bringing the videos and please don’t change a thing about who you are and how you do what you do! People love to see real life. Love your tenacity and how you embrace the challenges that come your way! God bless you and keep being you buddy!
Just found you via an article in the WP. Great stuff. Well presented, fascinating info for a land lubber too. In Greater Boston we can't find workers that show up on time every after day, never mind work the hours that crabbers do. People like you are the true American heroes that make the country run. I've been 42 years in my current industry and still like it. No plans to retire.
Finally a kid of this generation that wants to work and not afraid of breaking a sweat.... to many of our youth are afraid of hard work..When I was his age I was lumping boats, scallops 150lb bags at a time, good money for a 17 year old, made my way through college.. refreshing to see someone of this age kick ass, my hats off brother! keep up the good work and you will succeed
Luke my man, how old are you?? The amount of knowledge you have at such a young age is so impressive bro!! Love the channel. True americans right here, hard working, take pride in EVERYTHING you do!!! 🤘🤘💪💪🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
No matter his age he is an awesome dreamer and worker. You can't be lazy and make anything out of your life no matter where you live. I am a veteran and guys like this make me proud I served. Just to see a young man like this makes it all worth it. I'm anxious to see what he does with the boat now.
@ADVENTURESOFBZ, he’s pushing toward 30. I’m more than twice his age, and if there’s one thing I would like to tell him, it would be use proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. It’s hard to do when you’re young and can just brush the pain off and heal quickly, but the accumulative effect over time will get ya. Spinal fusion is no fun.
Man U are a hustler , I really appreciate a young man like you , your honesty and work ethic is rare , I’ve been bing watching your videos and just subscribed
Good work mate! Just some advice when towing,. You should always cross your safety chains when towing, left one goes to right shackle on vehicle and right goes to left. I'm not sure if its the law to do so in the US but in Australia it is. The main reason to cross them is because it will act like a cradle if the trailer comes off the ball and wont let it dig into the road and flip your car. The second is it reduces strain when turning.
That particular issue is not addressed in federal law. It falls to each state to create its own regulation on how to handle trailer safety chains. I know in my state it is required to cross them.
Hiya, listen for the rudder. Get a shop to make you a simple brass bushing. You can use that with a grease fitting and it will last you well. Another way is a bit bigger brass bushing with a sealed roller bearing in the top and another in the bottom of the brass. Bolt in place with your original clamp system and for maybe a hundred dollars, never have another problem.... Have a great one.
Just a small suggestion....... Drill a hole for a grease zerk in the plastic right at the rudder shaft. That way you can grease the shaft once in a while. If you feel the need or in your boat check before you go out. Oh yeah, use marine grease. Like the grease you use in wheel bearings for a boat trailer. Great engineering! Use what you got, try not to buy anything.
If they don't make it or you can't buy it make it yourself! I remember working in the York River with my dad as a kid. We had a 42' Chesapeake Deadrise with a 671D Detroit. It was setup for clamming. The Hyster was built from the rear-end of a Ford Grand Torino. Where many other watermen had hydraulic Hyster where you could take your foot off the pedal and the tongs would remain stationary. Dad's would go back to the bottom. I got out when the VAMRC came out with that authority card that had to be purchased before you could get a catch license (a license to get a license). I didn't fully appreciate what we had back then.
@Luke McFadden I am proud of you young man…CHS Alum ‘97 Grew up on Cockey’s Creek and spent many years on Bodkin Creek and the Magothy was my life. Keep teaching buddy. PS can we arrange a visit for my kiddo? I will Deckhand for a day
Hey brother love your videos! Definitely a new subscriber to your channel. I cannot tell you how much I miss commercial fishing. I started out fishing on a 76ft charter boat at 11 years old and then graduating to running the boat along with numerous other vessels. In between working on the charter boats, i had my own 32 ft flat deck clam boat with an inboard motor and a small wheel house. I cannot tell you how bad I miss the industry!!! Best of luck this season brother!!! Catch em up!
8:03 I work with plastics every day. When it needs replacing delrin is not the best material for the job I recommend nylon or MC901 . If you need a piece machining. Let me know.
Just found your channel. I grew up on Kent Island and had a bunch of friends who worked on the water over there. Back in the 80's those families that worked the water were some of the more wealthy families. They usually had nice homes on the water and nice trucks. Your channel brings back lots of memories.
The Key bridge! Here’s my story. My wife and I took a trip out to Baltimore many years ago to visit my Pop over Thanksgiving. We along with my brother and his wife went bar hopping and on the way back to the motel my bride decides it was a good time to get sick on the Key bridge. My brother pulled over, I got her out of the car and she proceeded to chum the Chesapeake. I was amazed as she hurled her contents as the cleared the bridge beams went from vertical to horizontal. I hollered at my brother to check it out. His wife was squalling because she was scared shitless of bridges and my wife was emptying her guts while yelling at me because I thought it was funny and everyone else should join in the fun. Good times.😊
Yo! I used to crab for Dungeness and gillnet with my step dad in Bellingham bay! We only dry docked the boat once but this brings back hella memories! Good luck dude you got this!
i would drilled small hole in middle of plastic and put greese zerk in it ..ya it hard plastic but will wear out in time ..lil grease help slow that wear down
Thats Devoe formula 121 red vinyl bottom paint. A military grade they don't make anymore. Very good stuff however, you painted directly over all the metal parts, rudder and struts. You need to put a epoxy primer on first, then the bottom paint. By putting it on directly like that any metal that the copper bottom paint comes into contact with is going to be eaten away. That's your electrolysis problem. Not the marina. Need to haul back out and strip all that bottom paint off and coat it with the barrier primer coat first. Zinc will last longer. I did the same mistake with my first boat when I was 19. Paid a huge price 10 years later.
I just found you videos a couple days ago. Love it. You remind me of me. I was born in Baltimore and my parents moved to Florida 6 weeks later. Grand parents had a place on the point on Rockaway Beach, so I got to go there for the summer for many years. Love Maryland style steamed crabs to this day. Mind you I'm 69 years old. Would love to spend a few days with you one day. I just liked your video and did subscribe. I'm working on my channel. Drone photography. Enough about me. Keep them coming as I eat it up.😊
Big respect to you Luke and the Southern Girl! You ever need a full time deck hand I'd move back n work for you!! Worked for Golden Eye Season for 8 years!! On the BayLady! Proud of you brother!
Do you run shore power when in the dock Luke? If so, get a isoaltor. Look into what happens to your anodes when using shore power in a dock. Seriously. The eloctrolosis issue is the leach across ground in shore power. You can put a simple isolator on the boar and it'll stop hose annodes from getting decimated.
Trailer tip: crisscross your safety chains and shackle them short enough to catch the drawbar before it can hit the pavement in case of a breakaway. Stay safe Luke. I love watching your adventure.
For your rudder bushing you should drill the hole out with a tapered bit so it will align with the rudder shaft perfectly to reduce the vibration. Also grease would help with the noise and longevity. Love the videos tho. Keep on crabbin
Just got in a motorcycle accident and I’m infatuated with the mechanic of my bike but you gave me new perspective of doing it on the water and making a living as well love the content man 🖤🖤 #WrenchesAreHammers
The cage on your trailer is a great idea. I’m just wondering why you had so much trouble roping them on? It should only take 15 min if you’re doing it right. You need a long enough rope and enough hooks welded underneath, Preferably a hook per stack. Then a cross ❎ at the back. Oh and dolly knots or truckers knots (same thing) the only thing you have to be careful of is not to crush your pots while tightening them down. Any way you have the cage now so it’s irrelevant 😂
This is one of my favorite subscriptions. Just a great hard working guy doing his best to make a self employed living. I'm self employed so I know the deal.....
You are a man of my own heart !!! Your enginuity is awesome !!! If you and I could get together, we could build and rebuild anything !!! What a blast it would be...The only thing is, we are 2000 miles apart. Lol. Keep up the hard work and them videos a rolling !!!
Look into oil impregnated bronze bushings for that rudder setup when that nylon(?) wears out. Quiet, takes a hell of a radial load, and will probably outlast the boat.
HEY LUKE , I LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER AND SO FAR IT HAS BEEN GREAT , IF I COULD GIVE YOU ONE TIP LUKE , PLEASE DON'T BECOME ONE OF THOSE YOU TUBERS THAT JUST TALKS ALL ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT TO DO AND NO DOING . YOU CAN KILL A SITE DOING TO MUCH OF THIS AND WATCHERS WILL JUST STOP WATCHING . YOU CAN TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING AS YOU DO THE WORK AT HAND AND PEOPLE WILL GET THE GIST OF IT A LOT EASYER MATE . LUKE KEPT THE CONTENT COMING ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS AND ALL THE THINGS YOU HAVE TO DO TO THE BOATS TO GET THEM TO YOUR STANDARDS AS WORKING BOATS .EVEN THE ONE WITH THE 18,000 HOURS ON THE MOTOR WHICH IS STILL A GREAT MOTOR IN MY BOOK , JUST LOOK HOW SHE DID ON THE WAY HOME LUKE , SHE IS A PEARL-A , KEEP IT UP MATE .
Wow its a good job your not buying something expensive for your boat eg. Drive shaft. If you were to order a 3" shaft at twice your actual length then it would be a very costly mistake. Your rudder shaft is not 3" it 37.2mm on your cheep plastic Caliper Vernier which converts to 1.46" or just under 1+1/2 inches.
I’d drill a hole in the plastic through to the shaft on one side and thread a grease nipple into the hole and pump it full of grease. The plastic will probably act as a lubricant but if it gets hot and seizes your rudder may stick.
Keep putting out the content man! You’re a funny dude. The lobstermen I cross paths with on the docks up here in Maine are a touch more stoic than you my friend!
I’m so jealous! You’re living my dream and I’m 55yo You have a great girl, great friends and a great attitude. Love you guys! I’m a TK tech btw so get me the model number and serial number off your cooler unit ✌🏼

That’s damn right! You ask most 30 year olds how to change their car oil and they couldn’t!
He’s 27 currently

Great to see a young man that can jerryrig anything to make it work.

What an amazing, awesome, hard working young man!!!
Watching your videos gives me hope for the future, you sir are a wonderful role model, thank you
Your ingenuity is second to NO ONE! Much respect brother! Also I would grease the heck outta that plastic piece you made.
Brotha, you are wise beyond your years. Keep killing it
Young man, you will go far. You work your tail off, not afraid to work and try to get ahead.
God bless and one day you will own an empire.

This guy is cool. He has my luck. But he keeps going and makes it work. He has got me thinking about crabbing.
There are thousands of jobs that are much easier physically. But being a waterman on the bay is pay all of its own.
That’s just fishin for a living man. Just like farming. Never enough good luck
Good luck getting a commercial license
@@ensporium8857 all you gotta do is pay a shitload of money then you can spend the rest of your money to catch a crab or 2. Lol
As always, impressed with the ingenuity and effort you put in.

Kinda cool watching this stuff. I live in Oregon and never done any crabbing or ocean fishing so this is pretty interesting stuff.
Wishing you good luck and back to shore safely with HUGE catch!

Love your style, work ethic and ingenuity Luke💪
That rudder rig - wow that turned out alright! Hopefully it's something you don't have to mess with for several more seasons.
Subbed to you a few days ago and since then your growth has been wild love to see it man goodluck on this new adventure!
Damn bro great to see your doing awesome since the Chesapeake high school days keep up the great work

strange to hear you say "go across the key bridge" at 10:14. Crazy that happened.

I love how resourceful you are
Keep on Crabbing…. Love the show
Great content . I have a question when hauling pots out could you tow a poontoon with them stacked on there . To get more pots out . Have a great day
You should hang an additional large sacrificial anode over the boat with a string and it will keep the ones on your not a little nicer
Young working, men ,,love to see it,,hard to find good loyal young workers
Move the shaft zinc up for better flow to bearing
Trailer tip: crisscross your safety chains and shackle them short enough to catch the drawbar before it can hit the pavement in case of a breakaway. Stay safe Luke. I love watching your adventure.
I'm curious about how much the marina charges to get the boat out of the water. Sure do enjoy your work ethic and the videos.
The paint looks like rustoleum, when do the coats of paint become too heavy, and what's the zinc for?
For your rudder bushing you should drill the hole out with a tapered bit so it will align with the rudder shaft perfectly to reduce the vibration. Also grease would help with the noise and longevity. Love the videos tho. Keep on crabbin

I would like to meet your parents and tell them what a good job they have done, hope all his dreams come true😊
Cheaper to recycle and build your own hinges but some dump trailer hinges would definitely hold the weight and inexpensive
always keep some ratchet straps in the truck.
What’s all those holes in your shaft past your strut and before your prop?
Great looking boat. You give it a lot of TLC
Your luck and determination reminds me of Jessie Holmes on Life Below Zero.
Look into oil impregnated bronze bushings for that rudder setup when that nylon(?) wears out. Quiet, takes a hell of a radial load, and will probably outlast the boat.
What’s the top speed of those old crab boats? Thinking about coming up from south Alabama to get one to convert to a charter boat

How fun would a tractor flapper be, and then you wouldn't need the bucket!
I think you are saving your generation alone lol. Smart man. Keep on truckin Luke. We love your channel
You can always come try a closed-bottom scallop trip! I run a boat out of Cape May. Twin 3508b's, pulling 2x 13' dredges.

love how you make work sound fun lol. great channel sending break a leg from Ireland superstation
Luke. Your going to have problems with electrolysis at marinas. Alot of those boats in marina has battery charger or trickle chargers
The Guys a Hustler!
Nice work. Keep crankin man.
love the futurama sticker that one always makes me laugh
Just subbed to this channel from the fv majn channel. Looking forward to catching up. That engine sounds sweet idling.
I’d drill a hole in the plastic through to the shaft on one side and thread a grease nipple into the hole and pump it full of grease. The plastic will probably act as a lubricant but if it gets hot and seizes your rudder may stick.
Smart young man! You'll do well!
Keep putting out the content man! You’re a funny dude. The lobstermen I cross paths with on the docks up here in Maine are a touch more stoic than you my friend!
Go Maryland! I miss living in Calvert County, right along the bay
Hope your season is the best ever!
“I’m gonna measure my shaft” “yep, 3 inches. Just what I expected…. 3 inches”😂
I’m so jealous! You’re living my dream and I’m 55yo
You have a great girl, great friends and a great attitude.
Love you guys!
I’m a TK tech btw so get me the model number and serial number off your cooler unit
✌🏼
Since I “ain’t no crabber”, but have a love and appreciation for the lines on the crab boats, if I owned the Southern Girl, I’d convert it to a wine ‘n cheese day boat and take tourists out on the Chesapeake Bay.
“Old green jeans pulling over a jet ski” 😂
Thanks 😊. Love it
Great content! Can’t wait to pick a bushel up.
I’m an ex trawler man and I’ve done the pots for whelks too, so u got my subb 👍✌️🇬🇧
Did you grease that rudder bushing? Seems like some grease would be a good idea in there.
What's the bucket for?
Its a masterpiece!!
Love the content mate!!
I really like your ingenuity!! Without our imagination, would be extinct 👍🙃😏😏
Your commentary reminds me of Puddins Fab, love it
I miss the red and yellow ocean racing boat that used to be to the left of the restaurant (from land).
Great channel
What state are you in? You mentioned Pasadena and I doubt that's Pasadena California
