Dairy Farming in Between Blizzards/New Calves/New Inflations/Opening the Silage Bag/Plowing Snow

- March came in like a lion in Minnesota. We got a fresh 14 inches of snow again. After the snow stopped falling, we welcomed 2 brand new Holstein Heifer Calves. The fresh snow means it's also time to blow snow again with the 830 Case. After clearing our yard, Alan heads down the road to clear the neighbor's driveway too. With the snow done falling, it was also time to let the cows out to stretch their legs. It was a bit deep, but they made it through and were even horsing around at the bale feeders. We also opened up our 2nd bag of corn silage, which looked great! Before we know it, it's chore time again on our small dairy farm. Alan quickly shows how he replaces the inflations on our milking units. Lastly, we were sent a T-Shirt with a challenge to all of our viewers. Enjoy!

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
Prayers for your family that they get better
Looks like the groundhog was right again and those weather folks with their billions of dollars satelites were off the mark. My grandpa taught us when we were little how to watch mother natures signs for the seasons and weather, they still hold up. Tough working on the farm in that much snow, great video.
I raise goats not cows, the other day my wife came and got me and said a momma was having an issue delivering, by the time I got there there was 2 heads peeking out, for whatever reason the 1st didn't come out and the second kept on coming. broke my heart cause I told my wife I had to push the second one back in and it would kill it, took me near an hr to get both pulled out and I must say I was pleasantly surprised when as I was pulling the 2nd one out I felt it swallow. Long story short, 1st one was dead by the time I got there and Momma and the 2nd (Phoenix ) r doing excellent
GOD bless you Alan and your family. You guys do a great job.
Concrete floor looks great. Get better soon Jen. Glad to see the newest addition to the cleanest dairy herd on UA-cam.
Great video, regular day on a dairy farm. The work never ends, but it’s manageable when you stay right on top of things, looking good. I like seeing the old Case out clearing the snow
I truly enjoy watching your operation on the Farm!! Congratulations on another calf being born!!
With all the snow, you have a full days work just moving snow ! Great video . Good luck on the hand healing !
Last night I watched your video about milk production and your Dairyherd and feeding your cattle. I’m not a farmer but I’ve been around farms. I thought it was very interesting. It taught me a lot about your herd and feeding animals things. I never even thought of. It’s just so interesting Farmers have so many things to be proud of and your Dairyherd is moving right along. I’m so happy for you and your family.
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the videos!
Those neighbors of yours really live back in the sticks.
Thanks guys!
Every day on the farm brings new adventures!!! May the Lord be with your family during the Lenten Season.
Hope your hand heals real quick!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks!
God Bless your family. Enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing your story with us.
Sorry to hear you got hurt. Hopefully you have no problems with your recovery. When you get a fresh cow giver her a 5 gallon bucket of warm water that’s all she will drink but it helps here clean. This Minnesota snow is getting old for sure. But we need the moisture. God bless our farmers
Yes, we try to give them as much warm water as they'll drink. Luckily, Jen didn't break anything in her hand, so it's feeling better every day.
@@trinitydairy keep up the great work. Allen you know you have to work harder now. Jen has camera duty to take of. 😂
I have been watching some dairy farming vidios from the UK lately ,they offer their fresh cows some kind of mixture with vitamins and minerals ,I believe the channel is Evie Gibbons
I love your videos
Very nice
I liked the "cowdozer". Thought it was hilarious.
Congratulations on the new Heifer Calf, great Video :-)

Don't know about you,,BUT,,,winter can go AWAY. Looking forward to spring planting.

Great video and isnt it wild what a difference tire chains make! 👍
Good Morning Trinity Dairy,Ed from Vermont.
WOW🙄,u have a lot of snow there in Minnesota,i leave in upper Vermont,we have not had hardly any snow all winter long
change inflations, have not done that for about 20years,since my last farm job.,ii worked on one of those big farms here in the northeast of Vermont, just did milking,3 times a day they milked, change inflations every 90 days
never worked much with silage bags on the farms where i was a hired hand,
Now you have enough snow to get the sleds out one more time.... (If you have time) My brother by you got a bunch more. But just a little south. I got mainly rain this time.
Tks for sharing. We get the storms you do here in Michigan. Thanks for keeping most of the snow there. Lol. Bless you Jenn. Yeah I got the Dreere standing there watching while the case works. Haha funny. Bet Jenn didn't hear that one.
Here in Rhode Island we barely had any snow! I feel bad for you guys 😢! Beautiful calve awesome video! Fast recovery for your lady!
I really can't complain. This winter has had a lot of snow, but the Temps have been pretty mild.
Awesome video as always i can smell the feed in the bag .
OH ya me too bet it smells like last fall harvest you bet.
As someone who wants to start milking someday, it's nice to have a channel like yours to learn stuff from. My grandpa sold the cows before I was around so I don't know a ton. But he does have a few beef cattle left and a jersey cow I've been milking for him since last March. Great video!
Best of luck!
Thanks!
That was cool watching the cows go thru the snow.
Yes, classic video, cow breaking snow path and others following.
Great video always cool seeing cow being born. The tshirt challenge is a good idea. Hope you get warmer days soon. God Bless you an your family an all the animals on your farm. 👍🐾🐾
Farmers never have enough. They're very versatile clothing from keeping warm to grease rag to snot rag to burdock catcher
Great Video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. We missed about every snow storm this year in southern Wisconsin we probably had like 7 inches of snow so far this winter only
Oh, wow! That's not good either.
Love your video thank you for sharing whith us
will check back in July and see if the snow is gone
The miracle of life!!! 🐄
Good job and hope you get better soon and God bless yall very much
A beautiful thing New life
Lots of snow here too with hardly any melting. Starting to feel like Narnia. Always winter, never Christmas.
I love seeing a new life being birthed!!!
Ahhh the changing of the Liners... miss that job
My supply dealer does it for me. All I have to do is swap them out
i always like your content ty foe sharing
Mamma cow was really "bagged-up" 😮
Hope the shirt fits. Guessed Al to be about my size and based on farm show scale we're real close. Congrats on baby girl. I can't seem to buy one from cows but hfrs do pretty well for me. Have a pair of twins that are 1of 9 for me. One just had bull #5, other due in about a month
Yeah, perfect fit, thank you!
thank you
another good video Alan and Jen , your getting a good blast of winter in Minnesota this year , keep up the good work and videos and be safe ( JEN ) , get well soon Hello from Upstate NY
Yes, I heard that Duluth hit the top 10 for snow totals, and that was before this last blast of snow.
Isn't it sad that we have to say upstate or people'll assume NYC
@@brandonhoad9033 yes I hate it
One thing you can do to help with the plugging with the snow blower is put a good coat of paint on it will make the snow slide better.
Don't know if this would work but maybe bolt some poly to the paddles. Old feed trough liner or acid barrel. Cheap, easy, and slickery.
My thought was graphite paint
Fantastic content! Do really enjoy your channel, been there done that haha! Keep up the great work!
Upstate cooperative right here in the 716 of western ny 👋 God bless
Shameless plugging😅
@brandonhoad9033 no shame in my game that's our states coop and proud of it 😊 . Right down to John and pat Haier trucking that picks local milk up for the coop.. I say God bless. But yeah maybe a little plug 😆 🤣
@@adamwagner1987 mine was Roger Smith but he recently retired. Now it's m&t out of Watertown area
Adam, where are you located? My grandparents dairy was located at Alleghany.
If snow is wet, I doubt ANY snowblower works well.
A question for Jen. How many of those scoop shovels full of grain does it take too make a bushel?
I have no idea. 5?
@@trinitydairy 3 will get real close to a bushel.
❤ 🐄
Not very often have I seen a cow give birth while standing up.
Right?! Both of these girls refused to lay down. They're mother and daughter, so maybe it's hereditary, lol!
Not that uncommon. I don't like it cuz it's quite a drop
Ooh what a gooey mess
👀🙄🐾👍 Your cattle are looking well even the land rats(Jerseys) will you be excepting freezing works shirts?
Alan have you ever thought about milking with 6 units instead of 4 and how many jerseys are you milking and it looks like you're milking more Holsteins are you thinking about going to an All Holstein herd and getting rid of the colored breeds and how many are you milking right now
I've thought about it, especially if I could get automatic takeoffs. No, we'll always have a mixed herd. We are having a run on Holsteins, though, for sure. We're milking 32 right now. We have 4 coming fresh here in the next couple of weeks.
@@trinitydairy I milk 35 if/ when barn is full. Went from 4 units to 5 when had to replace old 3hp vacuum pump w a 5. Huge time saver
Haha!
UA-cam messed up again, showing 0 comments and not the 22 already posted.
Sheesh!
Curious what would you guys recommend for someone who had a cow that basically locked her hips up so the calf wouldn't come out? Had it happen to us last year
Can you give us more details, I'm not sure i understand what you mean?
@@trinitydairy like we had a cow that locked her back hips up so me and my dad couldn't pull the calf out
Did you happen to try any oxytocin to help her labor?
@@trinitydairy no we didn't. That was the first time we had happened to us
Next time I see my vet, I'll pick her brain, too.
What brand of blower do you have?
I think it's an International...
It's a Schweiss
What size is Alan? XL?
Yup!
👍👍🐄🐄
👍👌❤️🇨🇦
Freshest meat in the county
😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
Is that Dori Being a baby
Dorie's daughter, Lola, calved at the beginning of the video, and Dorie calved later in the video. Even though we gave her calcium pills, Jen still had to IV Dorie today. Hopefully, she'll come out of it.
@@trinitydairy I hope so she’s a special cow usually they respond to calcium she’s a good girl
@@trinitydairy Mother and daughter together
She seems to be doing much better today. Jen gave her a bunch of stuff out of the med cabinet that must've worked.
I remember when Dori had silk and twins and Alan used her for the milking video demonstration and when Jen was talking to her and and April out in the pasture
Weather forecasters are the only job on earth where you can be wrong most of the time and still make 6 figure salary,,lol. Just saying,,,
We got 2ft plus in berkshire county. Im glad you didnt.
I don't wish that on anyone!
@trinitydairy well i plow snow. So i don't either lol. I miss milking cows.
@@williamstewart6877 come to Newark NY any time. Don't have that many😂
