  • An introduction to COUNTRY WAYS, including a description of what to expect on future episodes. Commentary will feature a discussion on walking plows, their parts, adjustments, and different uses. Examples shown will be a John Deere, an International Harvester, a Lynchburg Plow Works hillside plow and a small, wood beam Oliver plow. The hillside plow's revolving bottom will demonstrated; plus, a "sandbox" demonstration using model plows will provide visual understanding of terms such as "land", "furrow", and "dead furrow".

As a youngster, I spent a lot of time walking behind one of these as my dad drove our 12 hp cub...exhausting, but a great experience, and it really turned up the soil on our small Missouri truck farm to a nice depth...

My husband is restoring a plow just like this one, it has the original beam and John Deere Co. painted in black on the beam. It also has original red paint where the handles hook to the metal. Also it has Pony stamped on the back side of the shovel. I believe this plow was built sometime in the 1880"s by John Deere Plow Works. i purchased it at an auction in Northern Missouri so it could have been made at the Moline Plow Works or in Kansas City. Since I live in Central Missouri it could have been made at either plant.

I'm here because I found what was left of a rotting plow assembly minus the actual plow. It did still have the seven hole clevis attached and I brought it home before I knew what it was called. This video helped me to at least identify it's actual purpose...

@@voiceforthevoicelesstruth5480 I did the same 3 years ago with a horse drawn plow made by Finley R. Crothers from Sparta, Illinois. I bought 2 of them and restored one and used the other to put in my corn field. IO had to install a piece of rebar and slide 50 pounds of weights on it to get it to plow properly by itself, but it works great. Good luck and enjoy your plow !

Eu não entendo muito de arado com traçao animal, mas em 14:50 onde você aclopou o cabo de comando desse arado quando firmar o arado, ele pode querer se atravessar e sair fora da linha. Mas ficou muito bonito parabéns pelo vídeo.

We used the hillside plow with just one horse. Later when I was a teen ager we got two mules. made the job a lot easier.

Its amazing that I can go to a store in Tulsa Okla and get square headed bolts and nuts, and you cant, OR IF you can, U should have used them to preserve the historical integrity of the plow

Bob, Your Bob sled video comment section is turned off. Do you have information about how the riding box was built? Great video of the lower section! I am going to build one of these and would like to get an idea on how the box was built. Thanks!

You forgot the harness, so your wife can strap it to you if you don't have working animals! I strongly suggest extra padding, it isn't fun.
