I graduated last year and I'm still yet to find a job with my biomedical science degree. I've applied for hundreds of NHS posts, I've been interviewed for 3 so far. I've been rejected twice for MLA positions because the sheer number of people applying means unless you're absolutely perfect you're not getting in. I also applied for a band 5 BMS trainee post and they said to apply for MLA positions to get experience. I don't get how you're so optimistic about NHS prospects for this degree when the field is oversaturated, underfunded and hyper competitive.
oh no, I really feel for you, I would then suggest a few things, maybe take a post that is 'lower' than what you would expect to get and work your way up - experience is absolutely key in NHS, or apply for a non NHS role, either in research labs or private companies and once you have experience, THEN apply to NHS. Best of luck my friend!!
I've been interviewed for two band 2 MLA posts, a band 5 trainee BMS post, and I got rejected for a band 3 MLA post I was interviewed for this morning about 5 minutes ago I would consider at least 3 out of 4 of those entry level. Every time I get feedback it's the same thing, "Your answers were perfect but other applicants have more experience". I offered to volunteer months ago to get experience and they said no due to "governance issues". I don't get how this is supposed to work, how am I supposed to be competitive when even the entry level jobs have experienced applicants and their experience trumps my "perfect answers". The NHS constantly complains in the media about being short staffed but even when overqualified it's impossible to get a job with them and even when you do it pays grossly less than pretty much any other degree. Hell I've worked in call centres that pay more than a Band 2 MLA gets.
I totally agree with you! I graduated with a Masters in Biosciences (Biochemistry) from UCL in 2016 and achieved top grades but have not found a job within the biosciences sector. I’ve applied a lot and likewise would be told that other candidates are more experienced. I’ve also submitted applications outside of the NHS but still no luck. As I need money I just settled for a completely different job but am still applying for a science roles as I really want to utilise my degree. It’s just really upsetting!
TheMixEmperor really hits home I was in this position myself for a long time eventually through an old friend ended up with an MLA. From the sounds of it you sound like you’re applying in London or somewhere super competitive. I’ve moved on from trying to be a BMS but my advice would be apply for jobs outside London even if it is MLA. They’re also called Biomedical Support Workers so might be worth searching for those also. Plus trying private labs might also be a possibility. Might also be a good idea to join the hospital staff banks and contact the lab managers of your availability. Hopefully you’ve done your industrial year placement otherwise if your lucky enough to get an MLA job then it’s a year plus doing a portfolio for registration. TLDR outside London/busy city, private lab, staff bank
Oversaturated? My friend works in Scotland and there is such a shortage of people, that a girl who cleaned in hospital, was taken to the lab and NHS sent her to study, so she can become a biomedical scientist.
NEWCASTLE UNI?!?! I went to Hull for my Biomedical PhD! Can't believe we were so close! :D It would mean so much to me if you could visit my PhD vlog channel and give me some tips how to do better?! Keep up the good work!
Guys I need answers in my questions please... Like I've heard that there in no math in this major. Like it's not in the top subjects. But I've searching more information about that, so what I got is some people say there is math, but low level way it's just simple calculate things. And some say that there is no math at all you just need to study cemetery and science and like that. So what the really subject that I will learn and is there physics?. PS:SORRY IF MY ENGLISH IS NOT THAT MUCH.
Hello. Hope you are doing fine. This video was really helpful since I was looking for the job aspects in biomedical science. I just completed my GCE A level and now looking for some majors. But i've got few questions and hope you reply to those. 1. Is biomedical scientist similar to medical laboratory technologist? Because while searching i found out that even medical laboratory technologist do testing on blood, urine and other fluids. 2.If biomedical science is different from medical laboratory technology then in what way are they different? 3.Can you become a medical laboratory technologist with a bachelor degree in biomedical science? Or do we have to do some other extra courses or do a major related to medical laboratory technology?
Very helpful video! Don't know if atousa will see this but it says 'jobs and careers can you get' rather than 'jobs and careers you can get' in the video title.
hahaha oh wow I have been in your position! Honestly it wouldn't matter too much! even if you do biomed, you can still get a job on infections, but your new job will train you specifically for it! so don't sweat it :)

I want to study biomedicine but I'm already studying graphic design (literally just a month) I don't know how to tell my parents, I try but they are a little bit complicated, any advice, anyone.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is convince yourself that you 100% want to do it, and then telling other people becomes easier, because if they start disputing with you, you can full stand your ground. If you are only 75% sure, if they say 'what about this, what about that' you are far more likely to be like 'yeah maybe they're right, i'll just stick to this'. I wish you good luck though, I bet it is a hard situation to be in!
Approach your university ASAP and see if you can get on or do a foundation degree. The sooner you ask, the more chance you have. Your parents would rather you didn't waste your money doing a degree that you wont use

Biomedical science is a widely recognised degree you don’t have to peruse going abroad there is a wide variety of jobs in Kenya but mainly in the clinical trials industry even working with international companies and earn good money depending on your experience
If I'm correct you only need accreditation if you want to work in medical diagnostic labs... Not if you want to go into research labs in pharma/biotech or pursue a PhD, or other job types... Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
I graduated high school recently and i still don't know which major would suit me best, if you know anything about any of the majors i would love to hear your opinion. The majors I'm interested in are environmental science, biological science, biomedical science and pharmaceutical science.
Aw I know the feeling! sadly I don't know much about majors, but I know how difficult it is making a decision about what to pick! my best advice would be to have a really good think about 2 things 1) what subject or area do I love the most and 2) what subject or area will help move me in the right direction for the future career or jobs that I have in mind. everything you mentioned sounds amazing, you just have to think which will suit you the most! and best of luck :)
gd video, some important questions - Does the university have an impact on where you can get your job (say i went to the very low rankings uni but the same course and accredited) like i am talking about more than a 10% percent effect. Also compare the difficulty of a levels to biomedicine? If its harder or the same its not for me... (Main question is on the university, if you dont know the answer could you possibly ask a course advisor if you have access or give the answer you think I:...) I really don't want a slight disadvantage to people who went to better uni's. And lastly i doubt you will know this but do different uni's have different difficulty based on their modules or all modules basically the same for biomedicine? Thx!!
Hi lovely, honestly I'm not 100% sure so I can't say with certainty, but I think with the majority of jobs, once they give you a place, they will train you up to their standards anyway, but I think it depends on the job - some employers may be stupidly picky, but I think in general as long as you have the right degree that they are looking for, you should be okay! With regards to the difficulty - a degree is simpler in that you are studying 1 subject, instead of 3 or 4 a-levels so you only have one thing to focus on, but in terms of actual content, there are more complex learning material that you will need to get your head around - the main difference I would say is that with A-levels, you can sometimes get good grades in exams by simply memorising answers, where as in biomed, you need to have more of an understanding of the content - but don't let that scare you because as long as you keep on top of your work, you should be fine! And to answer your last questions, yes I think different universities have different difficulties, because as I said in my videos talking about biomed (give them a watch, they might be useful for you!) a slightly lower ranking university might do less research (which makes it easier) but will do more practical skills, and that means you can get accreditation to work in the NHS - which is actually an advantage instead of a disadvantage! I can totally see why you are worried, but I think it's important to remember that all universities have some advantages, and some disadvantages, and you have to try and balance these out! best of luck :)
Hey atousa I have a question! Since the biomedical industry is very competitive and a lot more people are getting biomedical degrees (?) is it hard to find jobs after graduation? The way Is see it is, you will be studying for 3-4years and even if you get a First, you may be overshadowed by someone with more experience, for example. Should I be proactive (or rather are you expected to) and get work experience and internships during my study? Are internships offered during your time at uni? Just wanted to know your general advice and from your own personal experience. I want to study post-grad medicine but I want to rack up as much as experience if I do change my mind and want to work as BMS Scientist in a lab. Whatever route I take, experience is always as equally as valuable. Thanks.
Hi! I'm going to biomed science first year and I was wondering if you could tell me how you handled the workload of each class and was caught up with everything? Did you make a homework schedule or anything?
I will have to make a full video about this lately, but honestly, I just tried to make notes for each lecture I went to AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. because sometimes if I left it a few days, it would literally add up! so my best advice is to clear things off your plate as soon as you get it :)
I am a premed student with a BS in Biology. Tried the Med school test seems like i will not be able to make it and it is taking lots of my time to retry again. Also doing a post baccalaureate to bring my cummulative gpa from a 3.0 to a 3.2 which is still not competitive for med-school. Tried to find a research job but was not successful, however i have been working for a medical device company for over 4 years now and have gotten lots of experience in manufacturing and quality Engineering. Since i have a deep academic knowledge on my science courses from my premed courses and i have the engineering experience, i was thinking to go for a masters degree that deals with both fields. For example genetic, tissue engineering or rehabilitation engineering or engineering researcher. I am looking for a some advice on this. I know i might have to take a few UG eng. courses that might be prereqs of the masters but i am willing to do that
Don't become a scientist if you want to get paid well. Well paid jobs are engineers, doctors and business related things. But to answer your question, pharmaceutics. Industry is where money comes from, and that's the only industry you could work in
I just did Masters in biology of disease in biomedical sciences from Utrecht university. I'm looking for jobs in Netherlands can you guide me which jobs can I apply. I have a bachelor's in veterinary medicine as a vet doc
I am currently doing my second year in BSc. Biochemistry. I am planning to do MSc. Biomedical science, will it be easy for me to cope up? and what job can I do after MSc in biomedical science (please don't tell me becoming a scientist is an option). sectors where I will be working other than being a lecturer/teacher & last but not the least what is a well paid job.
I have applied for both Computer Science and Biomed and have offers to study both next year. However, I cannot decide what to do! I enjoy biology A level so much and find it extremely interesting, however, I can't see myself working in a lab when I am older. On the other hand, I feel like I will still enjoy computer science but it's not as interesting as biology but the jobs are much better paid, in higher demand and better working environments. How do I decide?!
I personally would say do computer science and then once qualified you could work in biotech companies, best of both worlds! plus there is also a high demand for computer scientists in research and biology! :) that's my personal opinion but I hope you make a decision you are happy with! best of luck :)
Cameron Lyall im year three of biomed, specific math courses are college algebra and stats, sciences that utilize basic math skills as well would be chemistry and physics.
Hey! I am also a graduated from Newcastle University with Biomedical Science, but I only got Second Lower. So, I just want to ask what is your opinion on this? Greatly appreciate for your help!
Hello :) I do apologise for the late reply, I would say that it depends what you want to do, getting a second lower class doesn't limit you from the things you want to do completely, but I would say it makes things slightly difficult - to give you an example, if you are applying for a job and another candidate has the exact same CV as you but as a 2:1 or 1st, they may get picked - BUT if you have a 2:2 and have lots more work experience that the person with higher grades, then you may be the more suited candidate. I hope this helps!

You are more than welcome, and I am very happy to know you find them helpful! best of luck with choosing your major!
hi, thank you so much for this video, i am from Kenya and i am experiencing career crisis, i really needed this. hope one day you will make a video on career opportunities available for international biomedical scientist in your country. i have listened to your presentation and i realized that only a few of the career paths you mentioned are available in Kenya. all in all thank you for broadening my mind keep up, the good work.
hi lovely, you are more than welcome! and yes I would very much like to do that, I will have to ask around for advice and create a video, I'm sure many people in your position are curious! and yes unfortunately that's the case ): and thank you again for watching :)
You can also become a physician associate with a biomed degree:)
Yes you can afterwards, go check out 'Love Qualified' her channel. She took that study route after Biomed :)
Thank you for this informative video. I am a PhD in Pharmacy major in Biomedical Science major in South Korea. I finished the same major in my Masters.
hey Atousa! thank u very much for these videos that you make about BMS! please keep doing them💜
This is a very helpful video!! I had no idea there were soo many options thank you so much!! ❤
I usually don't leave comments, however this helped me so much. Im currently in my last year of biomedical sciences and I'm so stressed out on what i want to do next. Thanks for the help.
hey what you end up doing?
Hi what do you do now. I'm interested in biomedical science
It’s nice to see the differences and similarities between biomedical sciences and biomedicina (which is the name of this course in Brazil, my country)
I was in school at Uni in the Summer of Love (67).. like to go again & do Nutritional Science... “Science is the first emanation from God toward man. All created things embody the potentiality of material perfection, but the power of intellectual investigation and scientific acquisition is a higher virtue specialized to man alone." ~ Baha'i Faith
this is awesome..as u said it was neva clear to me as what exactly is there for me to do after finishing ma Biomedical sci program..
with this video i can now see the major options and i can now narrow my choices...
big tnks to u atousa.
hi lovely, that's so great to hear! I'm glad this has helped you with your choices! best of luck with everyhing and you are most welcome! :)
I enjoyed your video :) Keep it up!
I'm glad you did lovely! thanks for the comment :)
My friend works in Scotland and there is such a shortage of people, that a girl who cleaned in hospital, was taken to the lab and NHS sent her to study, so she can become a biomedical scientist.
such a great video, thanks!
So informative, thank you so much!
Thank you. These career options all like something i want to do. This is great as i going to uni next year and this video so helpful
thank you so much this clear so much uncertainty for me
it was pretty amazing and helpful atousa thanks you so much
Really helpful. Thank you! :)
I'm glad you think so! you are more than welcome! :)
This was very helpful thank you lovely!
NEWCASTLE UNI?!?! I went to Hull for my Biomedical PhD! Can't believe we were so close! :D It would mean so much to me if you could visit my PhD vlog channel and give me some tips how to do better?! Keep up the good work!
What an intelligent woman
This was so helpful! Thank you so much
Really helpful!😁thank you! And I love your accent😏
Highschool? I'm twelve and freaking out about my degree in biomedical science if I even plan to doit. So stressful, something is wrong with me.
Haha, you have the misfortune of being ambitious ;)
hehe, there is nothing wrong with you!
Nothing wrong with planning now. Ever heard of the saying "he who fails to plan is planning to fail"
You have plenty of time! Don’t worry!
I wish i had been as ambitious at 12 years old
Guys I need answers in my questions please...
Can I possibly do masters while I am working as a biomedical scientist?
Your videos are really good and informative. 🤗😍
Very helpful video! Don't know if atousa will see this but it says 'jobs and careers can you get' rather than 'jobs and careers you can get' in the video title.
I really wanna work specifically on infections, but idk if i wanna do biomedical or microbio :/
Im in a breakdown of switching my degree as well lmfao
hahaha oh wow I have been in your position! Honestly it wouldn't matter too much! even if you do biomed, you can still get a job on infections, but your new job will train you specifically for it! so don't sweat it :)
This was really very very informative!!!
I was having trouble in chosing between biomedical sciences and biological sciences.
As far as I have researched about this subject, they say it's not beneficial to do it.
Please tell me something more about it!
Thanku
Hi I'm going to study biomedical sciences at middlesex and I really like to work with patients what jobs can I get into with biomedical sciences
I just finished my biomedical science degree in middlesex 😅. Look at a physician associate. I can't remember exactly though if they deal with patients which I'm sorry to say but might be something for you 👍
I'm a nurse, and for you to say testing someone else' urine is unglamorous, is an understatement.
I should've done this course instead.
Thank you for the lovely video,I would like to seek your kind advice about pursuing a career in healthcare science in Bradford uni,I hold BSc in pharmacy and pharmaceutical chemistry and sent my qualification to IBMS to be assessed. However, they did advice me to do one your top up course in certain modules and then spend around one year in any registered lab to complete my registration portfolio which I found the same nearly if I want to study BSc in healthcare science from the beginning in order to become biomedical scientist! I am really bewildered and not knowing what I should do!! going for the top up course then completing the portfolio or start doing BSc again in health are science!
you are more than welcome! and that's really awesome, and I totally feel for you! but honestly it sounds like you have a good plan in place, I know it's all all confusing but if you just execute your plan you'll get your accreditation and be totally fine! good luck :)
I have completed bachelor in medical laboratory technology. I am thinking about biomedical sciences for master...would it be good?..give me a suggestion
This video is really usefull !!!!
She went to Newcastle university that’s where I wanna go after my gcses
XyLe Raffaz420 i go there and do biomed now!
Do you have to attend an interview to get an offer ?
there are so many career options with bachelor of biomedical sciences degree BUT all are of very very low pay. it sucks!
Omg I want to switch from biomed to graphic design. How'd you get on?
Approach your university ASAP and see if you can get on or do a foundation degree. The sooner you ask, the more chance you have. Your parents would rather you didn't waste your money doing a degree that you wont use

Do you really want to shift from graphic design to bio medical engineering .. it a really good desicion and i appretiate it but can u do your major in bio mdeical? i want to shift from informational technology to bio medicine . could to just reply to me
Thnk you so much! This helped me so much
now what is biomedical science ?
i am persuing biomedical science but it is not much developed here in kenya. can you link me abroad...
if i get an opportunity in future, what are the requirement?
Biomedical science is a widely recognised degree you don’t have to peruse going abroad there is a wide variety of jobs in Kenya but mainly in the clinical trials industry even working with international companies and earn good money depending on your experience
And are they doctors?
Very useful for me,thanks 😄
I plan on going pre-med with this major.
how about uni of dundee? the degree isnt accredited by ibms but accredited by royal society of biology
Thanks.

No problem- McDonald’s is always hiring
Great work mam😘ur style are impress...
I know i might have to take a few UG eng. courses that might be prereqs of the masters but i am willing to do that
been a long time since you posted, but can you update on what happened? im very interested.
I've completed B.Tech Biotechnology...Will I be able to take biomedical engineering for my masters?
hey! it seems you are from india! so i need a suggestion from you, is it worth studying and pursuing in india?
I'm gonna be an MLS! Medical laboratory science
Which one pays well ? I mean in long term which would give me more return ..
I like this video keep going 🤠 my dear teacher
I am in ghana will like to take this opportunity to upload my CV. Have worked in the lab for the past 25 years.
useful video ,but i still need more information about biomedical sciences .
Concerning study track? Or something else even?
THANK YOU SO MUCH OMG I LOVE U
hehe, YOU ARE WELCOME!
I seeking job in biomédical techniques .i have 3 years skils in these domaine
I am currently doing my second year in BSc. Biochemistry. I am planning to do MSc. Biomedical science, will it be easy for me to cope up? and what job can I do after MSc in biomedical science (please don't tell me becoming a scientist is an option). sectors where I will be working other than being a lecturer/teacher & last but not the least what is a well paid job.
Love scince
I am trying to find what undergraduate programme i do biochem biotech or optometry
What did you do after getting your bachelor's? Did you continue on to grad school or actually work with your bachelor's?
I actually took a gap year then moved to London to study my masters :)
Is that possible to become a mls/cls with a biomedical degree?if possible,then how?plz help
Biomedical Scientist in the UK is Clinical Laboratory Scientist in USA.
Quality assurance lab technician is one too. I am one
what math is involved with a degree in biomedicine? I love science and want to major in biomedicine, but im weak in math
Basics stats, basic college algebra, and I believe pre calc? But I am not to sure. Honestly not much and you can knock it out in your early years!
Mostly it builds ontop of alevel chemistry maths and statistics. Im year 2 biomed at newcastle uni.
Cameron Lyall im year three of biomed, specific math courses are college algebra and stats, sciences that utilize basic math skills as well would be chemistry and physics.
Can someone please help me, i know little to nothing about science and I'm not sure if its something i should go into?
Can a biomedical degree get you a higher chance to go into medical school?
I hope this helps!
i did the introductry Biomedical Science (virology) and from the 3rd the is nothing much i can do with it, what other options do i have?
How were your classes in biomedical at university did u had like examens or just coursework ??? So u finished biomed and went into your masters ??
I’ve almost finished 12th grade and I’m considering a degree in biomedicine, can I become a pharmacist or even a doctor with this degree?
Dipesh Maisuriya you can pursue many different majors and still attend med school. I’m a bio major and I’m applying to med school to become a doctor but I have friends who have been hum and math majors get accepted
I studied biochemistry in Nigeria and want to do M.sc biomedical Science in UK.can I register with IBMS or HCPC to be a biomedical scientist after the M.sc in biomedical science in an accredited University ?
Hi! Thank you so much for your video. I am a junior in high school from Turkey and I want to apply for biomedical sciences. Do you know anything about working in IVF after studying this degree?
You have to get a masters degree in embryology to work in IVF
Nice one.. keep it up
mam if the university is not accredited in bachelor of biomedical science .is it create problem in getting a job
no not at all :) there will be plenty of job opportunities with or without accreditation!
Param Kapoor not really
McDonald’s is always hiring
Is there a job where you can actually meet people and talk to then etc? I have applied for a biomed degree and i am about to sit my a levels but i am not quite sure this is what i want to do
evgenia apoel yeah I’m wondering this too...I like talking and interacting with people but I’m not sure if I want to become a doctor.
Yes definitely :) I have made a few videos about my previous job as a research technician where I had a lot of patient contact, and if you watch my latest interview with Jack, he talks about his clinical trial practitioner role that involves science and patient contact :) I hope this helps, and best of luck with biomed!
Hello!!! Does anybody know if you can do a biomedical engineering master after a biomedical sciences bachelor degree? Thanks
Can someone who has a medical biochemistry masters degree from a foreign university be registered by IBMs (after completing the extra courses if necessary)?
