Good advice about staying on the rivets/ribs. You might mention too do NOT go out near the caps though!
I go up onto our roof often but would never step across from a high step ladder. Instead, I lean the ladder against the side and use a pair of foam "canoe carrier" pads made for transporting a canoe on your car. Stuck to the sides of the metal ladder they protect the coach perfectly, so no wobble and no leap.

***** A topic I would love you to discuss is the installation of solar panels on an Airstream. I have a newly-purchased 2012 Flying Cloud 27fb which was not pre-wired or manufactured with any solar panels or an inverter, and I am looking at power options off the grid. I was thinking about getting a Honda 2000i generator converted to propane, since I don't want to carry gasoline jugs in either the Airstream or my SUV. I thought I'd use the existing propane tanks on the Airstream for power. However, I'd like that to be a backup system to a solar system, consisting of a 200w folding portable unit and an installed panel or two. If you think the installation of panels is a topic of general interest, I'd love to hear how Colonial Airstream handles a task like this, in terms of what is involved and expense; what is the best choice, balancing power need and expense; and any other related content you think is important. I think the topic would be of interest to a lot of folks. Thanks again!

Thanks Patrick! Your video was very helpful. I have a '94 Airstream Sovereign that's still in great shape and I've often wondered how to traverse over the roof of the unit to inspect the seams.

you do a great job on these videos. I enjoy my AS and bought it new in 2007. I used your website to educate myself, the best in the business IMO. I Will get a larger one in a couple of years hopefully if this country doesn't blow up before then.. I spoke to you back in 07 about possibly having one transported to Arizona, I believe you said that's as far as you guy went, I'm in California. But the local dealer matched your price so for convenience I went with them. I however will entertain you guys for my next purchase. thanks.

Wow...climbing a ladder to the roof of an Airstream with one hand holding the camera on a windy day ! More tension than watching Fast and Furious !

I love all your videos Patrick, especially your walk-throughs. Thank you for the time you put into them and going over all the features and little details. :) Do you know if Airstream plan to expand their offerings for motorized vehicles? My husband and I absolutely love the look and styling of the Airstreams, but he is emphatic that he does not want a travel trailer. The Interstates are lovely, but the current offerings are just too small for our needs. Will Airstream be offering any motorized rv's in the 30-36 feet range anytime in the future? Thank you for your time and excellent videos. :)

Oh I do hope so! I will keep my fingers crossed. We're about 10 years away from buying an rv and I would love for it to be an Airstream. We love everything about them except the towing them part. I've looked at other rv brands in the size we need and it's just not the same as an Airstream. I think if they came out with a 30 or so footer that we could drive it would be sold in a heartbeat! I really hope they develop some. :) Thanks for your reply, Patrick, and for your excellent videos. You do fantastic work. :) Blessings to you and your family. :)

    Patrick,
I weigh about 200 lbs. Will the 2015, new ducted air roof support that much weight at the ribs since it is raised?

My 1990 leaks everywhere! I have no idea how to fix it. Any videos on fixing roof/window leaks? I’ve replaced the subfloor already once & now I have to do it again 😢 Im a single 65 year old female & I love my Airstream! I live in it now after owning it for 10 years. The interior has been completely renovated & looks brand new, but I feel like I’m putting lipstick on a pig. But, it’s my pig 🐷

How do you walk on the raised roof of an Airstream with a/c ducting?

    • @colonialairstream

Pretty much the same way but requires a more steady foot.

I hate that transition from step ladder to roof but also don’t like leaning a ladder against the rig.

      Colonial Airstream
I saw a video where a guy converted the window awning to a solar panel, I wish airstream was on top of technology the same way they are on top of quality and workmanship
