  • Santísima Trinidad - Spanish Galleon in Alicante Harbour.
The "Santísima Trinidad" is now moored in Alicante harbour.
The "Santísima Trinidad" was launched in 1769 in the Habana (Cuba) navy yard. At that moment, the ship was known as "Escorial" (because Escorial refers to a great Spanish monastery) due to its magnificence and was the biggest and most armed vessel in the world.
It took two years to build, was 63 metres (208 feet) long, 17 metres (55 feet) wide and 8 metres (27 feet) high. It weighed 4.950 tonnes, had 140 cannons and a 160 man crew. Several fine woods were used in its construction such as mahogany.
The "Santísima Trinidad" took part in a lot of decisive historical events while it was crossing the seas.
The galleon was the Spanish flagship in July 1779 during the American War of Independence when Spain and France declared war against the British to support North America.
It was also part of the missions in the English Channel later on in 1780, the ship helped to capture an English convoy formed from 66 vessels.
Two years later it was incorporated into the so called Mediterranean Squad and fought in the Espartel's Cape.
However, the ship is famous for its tragic end in 1805 during the Battle of Trafalgar.
After massive fight, the ship was finally seized by the English in awful conditions with huge structural damage and the loss of 200 men.
The English fleet tried hard to save the Spanish ship by taking it to their port in Gibraltar. However, their efforts were in vain as it finally sank 25 miles off the coast on October 24th.
That sinking was the beginning of the end of Spanish power on the seas.
Nowadays, the greatest and most powerful warship of the 18th Century lies at the bottom of the sea.
Its artillery however was removed and is on show at the Naval museum in Cadiz.
The ship in Alicante harbour is an exact replica of the "Santísima Trinidad".
It took over 2 years to build and cost more than 4 million Euros.

The Santisima Trinidad was the only ship of its kind to ever see battle. Four decks, 136 guns at peak strength. She cost as much as an army and I’m sure her loss was a massive loss to Spain. Just like she would have been a massive prize for Britain had she not sunk off the cost of Cadiz.

The Santisima Trinidad is a Spanish historical ship that was launched in 1769. She was a first-rate ship of the line with 112 guns but this number was later increased to 130 in 1795 ,she Was a behemoth that was heavily damaged in a battle surrendered to the Neptune, a 98-gun second rate and the 98-gun second rate Prince in 1805 The British worked hard to save the ship and brought her to the British port of Gibraltar, towed by the frigate HMS Phoebe and HMS Naiades. Eventually, however, she sank about 25 or 28 miles south of Cadiz on October 24. It was a masterpiece of it's time

It would be taller than the ship, if stood vertical, 5 stories or so tall, probably made of Stone

Nope. Please don't come up with false information. Let's get this straight :
      1) The HMS Victory, Launched in 1765, currently stationned in Portsmouth, is the very last Military Ship of the line from the Napoleonic era, since the other one that survived to the 20th century (HMS Implacable) was scuttled in 1949. HMS Victory did NOT sink whatsoever, ""XD"".
      2) This ship on the vid is far from being ""A GOD"". It's actually a fat, inaccurate, square-hulled tourist trap that I wouldn't dare call a disneyland replica. IT'S A FUCKING RESTAURANT !!! HMS Victory, on the other hand, is the actual flagship of the current Royal Navy Admiral, which makes it the oldest commisionned warship in the world.
      3) Wanna see a proper replica ? I'll suggest you get familiar with the self-documentation process - with wich you seem to have some slight troubles - and go check the reconstitution of the Hermione (Lafayette's Ship).
      4) Stop wanking yourself on a fantasy picture of a 2745 cannons 6 deckers 5 masts 1729 maxi-galleon that-sure-existed-but-the-government-doesn't-want-you-to-know-it, and get your shit together before spreading bullshit to other people.

A crew of 160 men, well that is not right. Maybe 160 able seamen. The total crew, I think is more in the range of 800 to 1000 men.

This is indeed a terrible copy of the biggest ship of the line ever built. But the Spanish tuna boats kicked your ass in multiple, multiple occasions: from the fiasco of the Counter-Armada of your Elisabeth I in which we killed the pirate Drake, to the massive and shameful beaten up you were delivered in Cartagena de Indias in 1741; not forgetting the +50 ships of a British convoy taken to Cadiz by our admiral Cordova in 1780, or Nelson defeated and almost killed in Tenerife, or your defeat in Azores in 1591... I could carry on, the list is endless. Eventually we are speaking of the Spanish Navy, the first one to explore America, the 1st one to explore the Pacific Ocean and the 1st one to circumnavigate the globe... Historical achievements that the Royal Navy cannot even dream of. You don't tell to us how to build ships, how to sail them or how to fight in the sea, boyo, just because you beated us a couple times. Show respect.
