I'll give the fourth episode credit for taking bold steps away from the canon, but I'd have more confidence in this new direction if the rest of the season hasn't been a meandering mess. As much as I don't want to believe it, you might be right that we'll be introducing the Spartan III program if they're calling an episode Onyx, but it's putting the cart well before the horse. It's one thing to pull from the expanded universe to flesh out the world of the series, but it feels like something else entirely to move the entire plot towards one of these stories as a pit stop before ultimately getting to the Halo ring. It would be extra disappointing for Kai to end up running the Spartan III program as the first season showed her being the most critical and traumatized by her own upbringing and I can't imagine her wanting to inflict that on anyone else. Then again, season 2 has already thrown out pretty much everything from the first season so why not do a complete 180 on one of its best characters? Still, I think having Miranda head up the project is not as likely as her being the captain of the Pillar of Dawn which will hopefully show up in the next few episodes.
    Anyway, good analysis!
