On the railcar - add the chain tie downs and some damage to the wooden deck plates the teeth on the tanks would tear up the wood - my suggestion some rough sanding paper or steel wool - flat cars are usually beat up significantly - even have lifted bolt heads and possible rotten wooden parts - I'm sure that some heavy weathering /chipping along the sides and tie down areas would be visible - lots of dirt and grime on the Wheel springs and bolts would look really good. Some graphite dusting around the brakes and on the wheel edges. I work with railcars daily
Im a long time woodworker and your painting of the decking looks like Oak, which is something I never expected!!! Making plastic look like wood, OK, but making it look like an actual species of wood!?!? Brilliant!!! I also love the underside of the railcar!! Im just a nut for the structural stuff! AND after your great painting and detailing, just superb! Another skillful build Sir!!! Thank you!!! Take Care, Bill
Yeah, absolutely loving this new content. Your model making style & now dioramas also has always made the model making process seem much more attainable (tips, tricks & painting style), while still revealing completely gorgeous results. Thanks again as always for sharing! Have a great weekend!
Andy, watching your build videos is like going to college! It is really amazing & so entertaining! I am 75 years young & building models most of my life. You really are entertaining, thank you so much!
I served for 7 years in Germany, we often moved our Leopards (Canadian) by rail. many of the unloading ramps had cobblestone surfaces.
I like the 2in1 Stug as well the Jadgtiger2in1 as well. 🇦🇺
Отличная работа!
Wow Andy. The deck on that car looks REAL.
Well done 👍
Sabre has some good ideas in their rail car construction. Great paint job, Andy. 🇦🇺
The detail is amazing on this model, looking forward to the diorama's completion
Andy that was fascinating. I never realized that flat beds were so complicated. Reminded me of a story prior to D-Day, where resistance groups were trying to hamper the German rail system. Whilst most were concentrating on blowing up track and similar, this one group simply introduced some sort of abrasive into the grease the workers used. Result no flat cars from that site.
Awesome job👍👍 what is that dispenser you were using to apply the pin wash on edges of deck, I want one now wow
Hi Andy,
actualy the middle part of the buffers (where they hit each other) always have a dot of black grease on them to prevent damage and to make the connection smoother (also in turns) and the buffers are moving inwards the buffer house, also that should be greasy to make the moving smoother just a tip to make your weathering even more realistic then it already is.
Awesome job again, looking forward to the whole diorama
That's good to know Fred. I live in North America, so the rolling stock I know doesn't have those sorts of bumpers like they do/did in Europe.
Superb modelling skills Andy , very envious of your abilities - beautiful video
Going to be a great addition to the diorama. Outstanding build Andy
Andy, your weathering skill have to be admired. I'm envious, to say the least. Great job!
What you call bumpers on the side of the car are actually called stake pockets where metal or wood stakes would be placed to hold (somewhat) a load on a car. Not tanks, as they are too heavy, but smaller things like crate loads, etc... Also, your end things are called buffers.
Yes, it is standard practice with those old style freight cars to manually set the brakes when the car is parked for loading / unloading.
Modern cars with airbrakes by default engage their brakes when the compressed air supply is disconnected. Some cars have manual handwheels to set the brakes as well, and sometimes a wheelchock is used instead.
It does have all air tank but lacks hoses, piston and transmision rods. Strange. Box art also shows lever to disable pneumatic brakes. It also should have crack for manual brake not visible anywhere. It doesn't differ at all from freight cars that are still in use.
As for loading, all vehicles are loaded from the front, as other say.
Andy, if you haven't figured out by now, check out the Railway workers from Miniart . Other than the conductor with his bugle the other 3 have coveralls just like typical factory workers.
Beautiful job. I love your weathering techniques.
Hi Andy, that is absolutely fantastic, well done, very best regards to you and your family and friends from a Kiwi living in Australia
thanks for your dedication and for sharing.
As others have noted, the brakes must be set to load the cars. Love this project!
Beautiful build
I like the accelerated build!
That is really cool! In a nerdy kind of fun way.
Great video Andy! Thanks
A new build video! Today is a good day
An other great video and nice bild off that flat bed .
The build your doing is great! It brings new ideas and looks I never thought about. I would have the breaks on for the cars. It would make sense if it parked in the locked position.
Hi Andy as a model railway (or railroad) Modeller I loved this build, but I would advise you to go take a look at some actual track. Far from the iron colour palate you have so far used, a dark orange rust paternisation is more usually seen. I know you are going to further weather it all when you add the ballast but to give you my base recipe. I give it an all over dry brushing with ryzza rust from Citidal by Games Workshop followed by a series of brown, red, and black washes to taste
Awesome job, can't wait to see the full diorama. 👍
Yup, gonna have to get one!
Looking forward to seeing this all together. Sabre looks like a good kit, thanks for video!
Oh hell yeah, more trains!
Great video!
Great work Andy, keep them coming...
I really like these kits Andy! The flatbed car is one I want to add to my collection, with an AFV on there of course.
Great build Andy! I would simply suggest to also polish the wheels with silver pigment because they are always very shiny.
Oh yes I will once it goes into diorama
Going on the weight plate on the side the wagon could carry up to 32 ton .
That's 32 'Merican Tons....which is 20 Tonnes in virtually every other nation. 😉😀
Awesome work Andy!!
Great job Andy great video
Very impressive!
Hi Andy. Looking at 9 minutes where you show the ramp… normally the track would be a bit higher as it lays in stone ballast…. So you might want to raise the loading ramp a bit ;)
Looks great!
Great video, Andy. I am thinking of trying. that wood painting process on a ship's deck.
GOOD MODEL WELL DONE THIS IS GOING TOO BE BIG HOPE YOU GOT THE SPACE EST OF LUCK FROM SCOTLAND .
Excellent job btw
Awesome job.
those notches for making the track curved might be handy
Andy one big mistake, tracked vehicles are loaded from the rear and not from the side. The reason is is the tracks would chew up the wooden decking
Great vid and I’d have the breaks on. With the loading ramp, I think it’s supposed to be at the end of the rails, not along side them (experience from being based in former panzer barracks in Germany). Tanks are less likely to fall off when being loaded. Might be worth while looking for photos. Looking forward to the end result.
Yep, I was with 2nd Battalion Scots Guards (Mechanised Battalion) in West Germany and that is exactly how I remember it being done.
Yep, I concur, when I was based in West Germany they loaded the AFVs from the end and just drove them straight on.
fantastic 👏👏
Don't forget that leaving the factory the tanks had only chalk numbers on them as no units had been assigned at that point.
Hey Andy. Usually tanks are loaded from behind and they drive straight over the different wagons. The reason is that more dangerous is that the tank of the wagon can fall when turning on the wagon.
Hi Kris. True, but I have seen videos of Panzer IVs & Panthers destined for the Eastern Front being loaded on & off railcars in the manner that Andy is imagining for his diorama.
Awesome!👍 If I recall correctly, the Sabre Models railcars are less expensive than 1/35th scale railcars from other brands, so it's great to see that they look good!👍 I'm pleased that the fit & level of detail is good, and you did a really nice job with the painting & first stages of weathering of the flatbed car & tracks.👍 My only criticism of the kit would be that the wood grain on the railcar & ties for the track seems to be a somewhat exaggerated & over-scale.🤔 A question: Does the ballast in the kit come as a loose 'gravel' like the ballast that model railroaders use?🤔
nice work as always Andy .also Sabre Models 1/35 German do a diesel tanker
Next build of a train car use old jewelry chain and use the hook from that kit much more realistic
The box car will be great for Auschwitz dioramas and give a chance to use up little hands and faces from the bits box.
hi everyone
The wooden decks of flatcars take a beating in service. Dunnage and cribbing get nailed, spiked, and even bolted to the deck, and then torn off in a hurry when the cars get unloaded
Some flatcars which I have encountered at my clients' sites have had decks that can best be described as silvered splinters and perforated boards.
In short, it's almost impossible for a modeler to apply too much weathering and distress to a flatcar's deck.
True, and steam engines & rolling stock leaked a ton of oil, so the ties would be almost black. I also wonder if the ballast was sprayed with oil to help bind it together & suppress dust....if so, then the ties & ballast would be really grimey & almost black (e.g. Abteilung's Starship Filth oil paint, etc.).
@@derekbaker3279 Sealed bearings are a relatively *recent* invention, so every place where the machinery rotates or slides or in any way has metal sliding past metal with a film of oil or grease is going to drip.
One of the major jobs for engine crewmen on steam locomotives is the lubricate the hundreds of places needing it before starting their shift.
I've already built 6 of them plus the 50 tonne and the several.of the 80 tonne rail cars
Would be nice to have some PAINT to paint them with...all I see on your site is "SOLD OUT". 😏
Very simple but very nice. I have that boxcar kit but I was able to find the one that has the Dragon medic figures and optional Red Cross markings included.
well you could run it with G scale trains because 1/48 is O gauge, and 1/72 is HO/OO
G scale (45 mm gauge) is 1 meter gauge for the LGB models at 1:22.5, and something closer to standard gauge at 1:30 - ish
You should have given the running surface of the wheels a metallic color
I’m going when it gets added to the base
@@AndysHobbyHeadquarters ok 👍otherwise it looks great. Can't wait to to see the final dio
Hello Andy, I enjoy your videos. Is there a railcar for Tiger or Panther tank's? Godspeed; my friend. Thank you for your time.
🤝👍
Sabre, is this a Dragon Redbox…??
What is the track measurements inside to inside of tracks.
I wonder of Lego tracks/cars would work with these cars.
How do the tracks on this kit match up with the Dragon tracks and Trumpeter tracks? If I were to make a display of all my train cars are the various manufacturer tracks compatible to make one long track?
👍👌
Did you use a primer?
I think you should check some photos of the decks of real flatcars.
All that detail on the underside is asking for a diorama of a derailed overturned car (due to partisan action)...;-)
New content is so hot right now
Andy, do you accept international orders?
1. I believe the railcars are loaded from the end, and not from the side, so the tank doesn't have to turn on top of the railcar. 2. Your camera has manual focus... Use it ;) Have a great day :)
1/35th is equal to G model trains yes? Anyone know?
Are you going to put a tarp on the tank?
That tank is not staying on the car , just used it for size comparison
⭐🙂👍
Andy do you have all the kits in stock
They will all be back in stock soon.
Does anyone make 1/35 passenger cars?
How much does it costs?
is this available now?
Does the kit come with ballast for the tracks?
Have you lost interest in this diorama. Nothing much happening.
All sold out already 😢
More coming soon
Ohhh! More kraut junk! WTF?! Does everyone realize they lost?
But they had better toys.
