I have the feeling from watching this short clip, guy in the red tee shirt that came out first wasn't happy bunny being stuck with other 5 for a year. Tristan B....something has spilled the beans on the whole experiment, picking up the right crew.
It is quite interesting to see the experiment was a success, or showed the 6 complete strangers can work together if they need to and although from this short clip I deduced a fair bit, something we should never do, however it showed me one thing, Any future long term space mission will require personal quarters, personal space where person can go and be left alone if things get too chaotic, it also showed me the best way to keep the crew happy if you keep the busy during the day, make them do things, ideally one person should be growing plants and taking care of the greenhouse, an engineer should be working on expanding the habitat and fixing any mechanical parts that need fixing... and so on.
Any future base would need to be at least as large as a large family house, giving enough room for all individuals to have degree of privacy to let off steam. Sexual needs as well as emotional needs need to be considered as well, so a personal space is a must. I know many scientist and researchers never consider Sex as something to be considered in these circumstances, but it must be, especially if such missions going to last very long time.
We must consider future missions to Mars as a 5 year missions where individuals need to form strong emotional and social bonds, all aspects of emotional relationship must be considered, personal hygiene in particular, enough food for all Marsonauts, I know fresh food at first won't be possible, but caloric as well as emotional nutritional value must be considered when planning food and nutritional supplements.
Example what sort of foods someone would be prepared to eat, example I don't eat fish, cheese or celery, Lamb meat isn't my favorite either. Now future Mars missions are bound to have people like my self who are picky about what they'd like to eat, so nutritional and emotional value of food must be considered here.
I can go on about these stuff all day long, but I am sure you as a research institution will have pile of data to go through, you don't need another person giving you more grief. thank you for reading... cheers,

test how people will live in a small space for a year is one thing.. but to assume this test in any way reflects how people would behave in a off earth situation when the mind knows their is absolutely NO options for quickly escaping ones situation is a whole different story. Its the difference between someone being blindfolded and acting blind oppose to the same person having their sight blinded with no immediate means of regaining vision. mentally the two isnt comparable. People on a mars mission would need a great deal of normality for them to overcome the mental separation of earth and all of ones luxuries taken for granted.

He University of hawaii should have done a much better job raising awareness of this project. I live on big island and never knew this was happening.
LAME, would have been cool to follow throughout the year.
Was this going on during the Mauna Kea TMT protests? Good hung the experiment was not disrupted..

Only two of the participant in the experiment had someone hugging them on exit after that long time? Yes human race is ready for leaving in isolation.

Question, were the windows in their habitat and the glass in their visors tented red?

no they were not, but thatʻs a pretty cool idea!

Should have done that from the start!! Studying the psychological effects on humans is no good, if the can look out at a blue sky every day, and even walk out in it.
I bet it could have had an impact on them!

They couldnʻt walk out in it without a space suit.

I know. But what I meant was that when they did go outside, their visors should also been tented a pinky red.
