I’m so glad the interviewer afsked Ronnie to sing The aulde triangle. Wow! He still had it, even so close to his death. It brought tears to my eyes… in 2022. Thank you for posting this 👍
The interviewer sadly died in 2010 very sad really. Ronnie Drew and the Dubliners .....Wolfe Tones , The Chieftains was a great part of my childhood . God Rest Ronnie and Gerry...Beautiful Sinead and the Charismatic Shane xxxxx
in February of 1988 the Dubliners came to NY City to perform at the great, late, and lamented, "Bottom Line". They were absolutely wonderful, and ended the show with a five part harmony version of "the Olde Triangle", Ronnie singing the verses, and the rest of the group harmonizing on the refrain. It was the singular, most cool thing i have ever seen or heard at a concert, and I will never forget it...and i will always look up to Ronnie, and never forget him...RIP
such a brave man facing with what he was facing. Such a voice, such a man. Thank you for your legacy from a proud Englishman of Irish decent. I love my Irish family and the values they brought to me. God bless xx
I got through all of that and thought I was gonna make it. I even made it past Shane tearing up but when Ronnie sang The Old Triangle I flooded the room!
I Love Ireland and I Love (Even if they aren‘t Here) The Dubliners. Watched this with more than one tear in my Eye. RIP Ronnie - and all The Boys who went to Heaven. As mentioned in former Video’s I met them once for a few minutes in 2007. Love from Germany. Erin Go Bragh. Long Live Ronnie and the Dubliners.
Hi Ronnie., My mind goes back to O'Donoughues in the early sixties before you were famous and you never changed. We still miss you and always will. Ar Laimh deis Dia go raibh a Dia.
What can I say? Ronnie's & the Dubliners sound permeated my youth, my teens & my young adulthood. I was lucky to live in Dublin during the mid to late 80's, you could still wander into O'Donoghue's and you'd never know who you would bump into. I would love to walk around Stephen's Green on a sunny Sunday morning again, with the sound of Ronnie singing the Dublin Saunter as my soundtrack.
God bless you Ronnie. I kick myself that I never saw you play live, but thank you for introducing me to your wonderful music and keeping me play guitar while trying in vain to emulate you greatness. I look forward to seeing you play and sharing a pint in the next life. Peace........
i still have the first cassette of the the Dubliners i got back i 1986,from LT, N ,D and several cd,s i brought after that, some of the best music i had heard at the time out of ,the Old Country,?love this as it fills in the gaps,,R I P, old mates,
I remember being told of the story of the Dubliners were down the country for a concert during the summer months, and the concert was cancelled due to some local dignitary dying in the town. The lads headed into the local pub for a few pints around 9pm while it was still bright. They drank into the wee small hours, and upon exiting the pub at dawn, Barney turns to Ronnie and remarks " Jaysus Ronnie, but isn't there a great auld stretch in the evenings all the same!"
me too...me too...i was in O'Donoghues couple of weeks ago,and me and my wife had a tear goin down our faces, thinkin about Ronnie,Luke Barney and Ciaràn...but still have a laugh and a thoughts about all the good tihngs learned...because from them i've learned a lot... Greetings from Florence,Italy
We all are, I think. He is gone but he knew just how much he was loved before he went. This is a rare thing even among Artists. Frankly, if Luke will have him back (and I'm sure he will) we all have something to look forward to when we eventually catch up with them again.
a wonderful and fitting tribute. Loved this man's voice. My dad was from Cavan and moved to England we loved to go back to Cabra and hear the craic. God Bless you Ronnie.
All I can say, is that the song, Here's to you, seems a bit soft for him ... Otherwise its a great interview and yet another viewpoint. Still I have to say that the Dubliner's and all of it crew are the best source fore young musicians to learn integity and professioalism. I'm one of those none Irish who had fortune going my way and was brought up listening hearing them through my sleep/slumber when my parents were entertaining. Sorry for the misspeling, english is my 3rd lang. Stefan
I knew a few songs of The Dubliners ('whiskey in the jar etc) from some Irish cd I had- but hadn't KNOWN who Ronnie Drew was, or what he and his band looked like! Till that 'Auld Triangle' vid where there r lots of folks singing on like a 'night show' (fella says a poem then Ronnie & folks on stage sing) type thing? Its a fave of mine, & T L Johns just did their own version- luv harmonies no matter what. ... but now seeing Ronnie's bright life and then his illness & loss of spouse hits me more personally~ My hubby is a jolly fella, but from Louisiana (NOLA), & musician in his own style, but is on a brain tumor experience, so I can understand more. Of Ronnie's latest days...the treaments and the vulnerableness one goes thru when stricken w/darn cancer (of any sort). Wish I was more aware of he and his fellow bandmates, before he passed...this 2019, like 11 yrs too late :( But seeing him sing 'auld triangle' when ill, shows to me his spirit is Bright still 🕊- and how I luv when my hubby is feeling energetic to pick his guitar us and sing during his own brain tumor journey.) HipHip Dubliners, luv ya, from Northern California (& Cajun hubby!)🎶 "Laissez les bons temps rouler"(Let the good times roll)Hmm Irish and Louisiana are kinda similar! Enjoy life xo 💛💚💜
Cheers Justin !! Heard Barney play this @ the Royal Albert Hall back in March !! It was a song that I had never heard before and it really stuck in the back of my head !! Highlight of a most memorable night ..
Great to see all these musicians together and Ronnie deserves every tribute and more, but dear me the song is appallling, more suitd tom some awful 'band aid' type love in, than one of Ireland's greatest men
6:09Actually Gerry it was the 16th of August 2008 I remember being in Croke Park watching Dublin get hammered by Tyrone in the Pissing Rain and I think they played Parting Glass on Loudspeaker straight after the match
I sang *The Aul' Triangle in a dungeon cell in a Barcelona police station. Spaniards didn't know what to make of me, but they left me alone👌( judge let me go on the Monday. Just say No kids)
Hi everyone! can anyone explain me what Shane says at 06.38 please? i'm italian and my english is quite good, but i really can understand what he said! :( thank you...anh thank you for these vid abuot ronnie! i love ireland!
Firstly - thank you to dublinrareoldtimes for sharing this with us! O'Driscoll123 - with respect, I don't think it's actually the questions (as personal as they are) that is the problem here. It's the manner in which the interviewer asks them. To me, he has a very unfortunate manner about him. The focus should only be on Ronnie Drew, it's all about him, his work, his life. Let the man speak - but I'm very aware of someone else on the other side of the microphone seeming to continually 'butt in' and add his two penny worth.
God love you Ronnie, having to listen to that load of 'crap' 'Here's to you', and the pompous ramblings of Bono. A person with such an enormous ego and a piddling little voice.
That *Here's to you Ronnie Drew* was shiiiite! All them "Top" musicians and that was the best they could come up with? Ffs that was a terrible tribute to a Legend of Dublin.
i have to agree. I heard Christy Moore sing a much more fitting fitting to Luke Kelly. This one missed the mark for me, but then it wasn't FOR me. Barney and John playing that lament instead was perfect
Long live the Dubliners! They'll always have that special place with me...
I’m so glad the interviewer afsked Ronnie to sing The aulde triangle. Wow! He still had it, even so close to his death. It brought tears to my eyes… in 2022. Thank you for posting this 👍

The smile on Ronnie's face at the end when Gerry applauds him, that's a nice image to have :)
Ronnie is not the only one to have shed a tear at the end
such a brave man facing with what he was facing. Such a voice, such a man. Thank you for your legacy from a proud Englishman of Irish decent. I love my Irish family and the values they brought to me. God bless xx

Aw, Christ. Shane's face when he talks about the last thing he said to Ronnie gets me right in the feels.

Fair play to bono for doing that, that was cool 😎 f. The haters ✌️
RIP, Ronnie !!!
Good things, you was good people Ronnie.
@Lousypenguin Ronnie passed on Aug 16,exactly a month before his 74th birthday.
See ya soon Ronnie!
fair play to bono and all involved, to do that for a legend of ireland.
Bono is like Adam Sandler. Enough is enough
I sang *The Aul' Triangle in a dungeon cell in a Barcelona police station. Spaniards didn't know what to make of me, but they left me alone👌( judge let me go on the Monday. Just say No kids)
@MsJovi17 Something along the lines of..."Alright, see you laters...slain go foil"
Hi everyone! can anyone explain me what Shane says at 06.38 please? i'm italian and my english is quite good, but i really can understand what he said! :( thank you...anh thank you for these vid abuot ronnie! i love ireland!
Barney McKenna Sadly passed away in 2012!😞😢😔🙏🌹🧔🇮🇪
RIP
Never was a fan of U2, but the hatred of Bono is a little out of hand.
What's the song called being played at 6.10 minutes
❤☘❤
Grá mo chroí mo chruiscín
Sláinte geal mo mhúirnín
Is cuma liom an cúilín dubh nó bán!
Agus geobham arís an cruiscín is bíodh sé lán.
does anyone know the name of the tune the lads play @ 06;15 ???
Fast forwarded over Bono. No right to be mentioned in same breath as Ronnie.
whats the last song that barney is playing on the banjo ?
ar Eirinn ni neosfainn che hi, for Ireland I wouldn't tell who she'd be.....that's the name of the song. Lovely isn't it....
tell me more. explain. plz.
Oho I 'm born in 1966 and have been around, musicwise and otherwise
Bono is still number two
Bono is shite
"Can you remember the words" he asked Ronnie Drew about the Auld Triangle! wtf
That interviewer is a bit personal with the question, good lord.
Firstly - thank you to dublinrareoldtimes for sharing this with us!
O'Driscoll123 - with respect, I don't think it's actually the questions (as personal as they are) that is the problem here. It's the manner in which the interviewer asks them. +jim Byrne yeah that's what it is you're very right it's very annoying the way he keeps talking over Ronnie.
Great video but would have preferred a better interviewer. The Dubliners were the best.
God love you Ronnie, having to listen to that load of 'crap' 'Here's to you', and the pompous ramblings of Bono. A person with such an enormous ego and a piddling little voice.
Cancer is such a scam. So many have passed who didn’t need to pass.
The new
only ryan and ahearn could ruin this video
Just skip the Bono parts and it's great!
The Ballad of Ronnie Drew could have been so much better. Beautiful thought, legendary musicians, shit song.
Lovely man was ronnie drew...and such a horrible man was gerry ryan
That *Here's to you Ronnie Drew* was shiiiite! All them "Top" musicians and that was the best they could come up with? Ffs that was a terrible tribute to a Legend of Dublin.
