It's a reasonable start. I'm just looking at what can work and hoping that someone with the skills can sort out what doesn't work. Going to look at roads next. Be nice to get those new markings and sidewalks working.
It took me three days to get a reasonably good map from the Alpha-20 Map Gen tool. I miss the KingGen Map Gen app, it's so sweet. When it's completely fixed I'll use this again. Good work so far, thanks for the hope that KG will work properly again.
I wish I could tell you with more confidence that it'll be updated soon but I'm afraid I can't. But for now we can make the most of a20 rwg with at least better biomes with the help of kinggen. Check out the heightmap tutorials where you could draw your own map. I s not difficult to make a small island in the middle of a 4k map that is mostly water.
@4:59 that is burnt biome, loo at the gorund, there's no broken brick texture... The burnt biome still exists in the game files, as navizgane still uses that zone...
I heard they were combining them but I understand since that they never got it finished. So the game files are still there in a20 even though a20 rwg won't use them?
Thanks for the video, but how can I make a kinggen map with CP48? I can't create a custom POI list from the modlet folder, because the various prefabs are in subfolders. I tried it both with the "simple" modlet version and with Infinity, with the same outcome.
Kinggen is getting left behind I'm afraid. There's not an easy way to get it working with cp48 that I can explain in text form here. Copying all the prefabs to the same folder should work but its pretty messy. If you're set on using kinggen just try copying a couple of prefabs over, make a new list and test it out. I just made a new list of the POIs for something me and 3 friends are planning for 7daystodie but what if we want to use custom maps from nexus or some such as that custom north America map that's bigger than 8k will it still work

Currently I would advise integrated with compopack, then maptoolz/gimp to fix or change anything. Hopefully soon we'll be using teragon instead of Int'rwg.

the problem im finding with kinggen, is even with the new POI list added, kingen will not place certain POIs into any map, such as the new factory 03 and shitloads of downtown fillers, and parks, stuff like that. how do we fix this?

That's great. Did you run the fix for poi blocks? If not you might find that some buildings will collapse as the blocks used to make parts of them don't exist any more. You might be lucky though!
I tried making a map for RH with its poi's, but the biggest problem is that at least half of the pois wont generate due to its xml settings. I dont see any way to fix that other than by manually going tru every single poi, and even that doesnt guarantee success.
Really KingGen isn't worth using now that the file structures have changed so much. Particularly if you're using CP48. Still use it to test hand drawn maps but we don't have a generator that will use those...yet. Teragon is slowly on its way to save us all haha!
Been following your mapgen stuff a lot last few days. Teragon is too complicated and for some reason I can't get big cities to spawn in a simple wasteland flat map. King gen is a lot easier to use, have you figured out how to get it to spawn in the new sewers and city tile system?
No I'm afraid not. The sewers are part of the tile system and without tiles, no sewers or nice roads. Really sorry. Why not try genning a flat map in vanilla 7dtd then export the heightmap and try drawing some of your own terrain features? You'll get all the tiles and sewers and it's a very satisfying thing to do to make your own map.
@@TallmanBradGameplay The main problem I have is what biomes to actually generate, but Nitrogen had that problem to an extent as well. Strictly this or strictly that wasn't the issue, it was I ONLY want 2-3 biomes, not all or just 1 type, ya know?

I suspect nothing, I was just making a safe small one for speed. 8 and 10+ should work just fine. 4k might work too. But I wanted to stick to the size I know the built in generator starts from and have been experimenting with already.
It's unknown at the moment. Last time I spoke with him he mentioned making it open source for another dev to take over. He is very busy outside of working on kinggen. I hope that he'll pass it on or is prepared to take the time it'll need to incorporate the tile system. It really is a massive stumbling block currently.
The new roads are part of the tiles. They aren't something that can be drawn between cities. Just in the cities between tiles. At least that's what it's looking like at the moment.
Ah, back to the 16K maps for me! So I don't have the updated roads and sewers. Sewers and ditches would be nice but honestly the lines would be faded and not pristine so, ah well. New map time!

Hi, I am passionately interested in playing KingGen maps. Somehow I was able To install KingGen in A19 and I loved it. Somehow! I even used your video to do it. At least I did it well enough to play, but not well enough at the end where things got stored. This video just flew over my head. Could you, or someone, make a step-by-step list that I could print out and have for reference as I try to do this for A20. As you can infer, I am not that computer literate and I need help. I am 79 yrs old, and live in an assisted living facility. And I truly love 7DTD. And will be truly grateful to anybody who can/will help me.
I'll need to sit at my laptop to make a step by step text version. The only thing different to a19 is the part in this video where you create the fixed poi list. You can still use the original videos but just remember to direct kinggen to the new list 'each time you create a map. I'll see if I can do a step by step when I get home. I wouldn't be using kinggen for maps these days. It's useful to test out home made heightmaps though. Nice quick preview and can jump in and fly round to see how It looks before committing to Teragon. Your maps should show up if they're in the right place. Normally need to drag them into place.

I dont get how fun pimps can be SO bad at world gen. Its slow, ugly, uncostomizable. WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY NOT JUST IMPLEMENTING KINGGEN/NITROGEN INTO THE BASE GAME ALREADY?!?!? Literally one of the most important parts for playing! What about one biome etc.?
They sadly missed several options. Hopefully they'll update their own rwg in the future. A biome 'weight' slider wouldn't be difficult for them to add. Even if it was just EasierHarder. Where one direction favoured pine forest and the other reduced it.
@@TallmanBradGameplay They cant be that much worse than the people making Nitrogen/Kinggen. Just include those sliders or at least 50%, heck even 25% of the sliders. At this point it has about 10% of the customizability that those free programs has. I care much more about world generation than one or two new POIs. Much more impact on emersion.

As far as I know the smallest map is 4k. You could specify large borders to shrink the map slightly.
Check out the heightmap tutorials where you could draw your own map. I s not difficult to make a small island in the middle of a 4k map that is mostly water.

I wouldn't spend too much time with kinggen these days. If you can wait for teragon you'll get more reliable results.

To get the city tiles with the parts and fillers your only option currently is to use a20's RWG.

You can change the biomes easily. I'm working through a video in my head haha. Heightmaps no. Well, not without a bit more work.

Sucks it doesn't generate all the new chunks/textures for streets, sidewalks, waterway tunnels, ect
Yeah. The last version was created before the dev knew about the a20 system. Still does some things better though.

Yeah you can fix an a20 biome map easily. There's a video on my channel with a tutorial. Uses a photo editing program of your choice but easy to do.

Im having an error where I try to just spawn a wasteland 10k map with your guide, but im having no traders spawning, is there a fix for this?
Yes you need at least a small area in a city that isn't wasteland. Your startup/trader quest can't be to go to a trader in the wasteland.
If you have no actual traders at all spawning it's because you are using a custom POI list that doesn't contain any traders.

Are you using compo pack 47? That won't work with a20.

Yes its very buggy for A20 as the height map was not accurate.
