  • A massive oil sheen is stretching for miles along the Galveston coast in the Gulf of Mexico.
    The sheen is coming from an offshore drilling platform 12 miles from the sandy beaches of the Bolivar Peninsula, near Crystal Beach.
    Reports of the spill were first posted to social media over the weekend.

      They do. Our liberal governments at their finest. If inactive, either the State or Federal government are most likely the owners, and as regulating agencies, they have always been the ones responsible. Governments want their royalties, but refuse to take action and instead try to sue bankrupt companies that don't exist any longer, delaying action for decades.

    Someone at least needs to wrap it up to stop/slow the leak until its fixed or plugged. Just letting it leak until the owner is found is just plain stupid. Give me a boat and ill go fix it for free.

    • @docwatson1134
      @docwatson1134 2 місяці тому +2

      Bring a boat with a work boom on it.
      Also several storage bladders, and hoses to fill them with Strap a catch basin on that pipe, plumbed to fill the bladders floating on surface. Add rubber aprons, below and above leak, to break the spray, and guide all the drips into the basin.
      And stop the ongoing contamination.
      Or possibly bust it open, much worse.
      All those years of salt air, probably rusted AF.

    A waste of petroleum, but it should have been plugged and removed when production was stopped. Sounds like their needs to be an entity that knows about the ownership of every oil well and every platform in gulf waters and knows by report every month of production. Next they must have a decommissioning account with a lot of money in it and insurance.

    Big companies drill the wells and operate them until the ROI isn’t good enough for them. Then they sell them to small operators who squeeze them for everything they’re worth without doing any meaningful maintenance on the facilities. Then when they are done, they just claim bankruptcy. That’s how the system works.
