It's mostly cause you need to constantly hold down the mouse buttons. The average clear time of the game is 8-16 hours, it's just unrealistic for anyone to do that for so many hours without getting cramps.

I’ve watched EVERY episode. In all the seasons. Which is like idk, 14 hours of episodes. The intro song “Look Away” is peak. Glad that MatPat recognised the show’s existence. And then the song that plays at the end of the show “Not How The Story Goes” or whatever it’s called is also really good. A lot of the songs in the show are pretty good, but those are my favorites.

First of all, thank you Ash for being brave enough to share deep Ash lore with us. But at the same time, I feel like they very much underestimate just how pervasive fandom AMVs were and kinda still are. As SOON as they said Windows Movie Maker I knew exactly where it was going.
As a show of respect and support, I will bare my own lore and say that my fandom to do that with at the time was Marceline and Princess Bubblegum/Marshall Lee and Prince Gumball.
I'm not going to make anyone do the same, but comment below if you did the same too and what the fandom was!

38:24 Ash talking about twenty one pilots, I grew up with both their music and found BTS a while back, and both groups for me like both their music and the stories behind them and everything just felt so good to hear, listen to and figure out the story and everything and I found a home within both of those fan bases. So it was really cool to hear ash talking about it☺️💜
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this artist yet but TheFatRat has this intriguing world that is featured in most of his songs, this world being called the 'Arcadium'. Each song's video has this beautiful animated picture and the majority feature this recurring girl as the main focus, however you never got to know much about the girl and her face is always obstructed (apart from that time when he partnered with an nft company to produce some collectable cards that featured stuff to do with the Arcadium and one rare one unveiled her face for the first time.)
As far as I know most of his songs are from the same universe but there are 2 main albums that have an overarching story; 'Parallax' has an 8-bit style to it with a complete story from start to finish; and this new album (which isn't complete yet) is in a playlist on his channel with the title 'The Story' which follows the story of this young girl and boy.
I absolutely love his music and the art used in the videos, and as a bonus his music is entirely copyright free so can be used anywhere (in the description of each of his videos he tells you how to prevent any invalid copyright claims when using his music so that you can monetize your video without any revenue loss.)

Daft Punk's main discography (Homework, Discovery, Human After All, Random Access Memories) has an overarching narrative thematically centered around the bond between human and technology, where the lines are, identity, and about humans and technology coming together to create the perfect sound before the robots leave our planet to travel to another solar system in hopes of repeating the process with a new species.

I'll be honest: taylor is big in the us, and kinda only there. Yes, she has international fame, but not nearly as much as other artists. She was smart in her marketing and had a good timing to her changes. That's more or less it, embodying the culture in good, and bad. And to be honest, I almost closed the vid when the discussion started lenghtening, even if the gameplay was cool...
It's okay if you don't like Taylor Swift. Everyone is entitled to their own preferences and I am glad you enjoy other artists. However, I think it is a little misleading to say that she doesn't have more international fame than other artists. Various world leaders were asking her to bring her tour to their country including the president of Chile, the mayor of Budapest, the Prime Minister of Canada, etc. She was also ranked #5 on Forbes' World's Most Powerful Women list, where the top 30 is dominated by mostly politicians, businesswomen, and philanthropists. The first entertainer to come after her on that list is Oprah Winfrey at #31. She was also the first musician ever to be named TIME's Person of the Year in 2023. It's more than marketing at this point.

Why I think Taylor has that underdog vibe is because she is constantly writing things from a relatable standpoint. Falling in love, getting heartbroken, not over an ex, an ex not over you, ect ect ect. Very rarely does she sing about things like wealth or how popular she is or other unrelatable topics.
So when she does get into some thing with a celebrity or company, she's the defacto relatable one. For most of us, if we were in that situation we'd be the underdog. So she feels like the underdog

I am not a Taylor Swift fan, but as a woman who likes sports (especially REAL wrestling) I am all too familiar with being ignored when I share my thoughts and opinions. Funnily enough, I have several male online friends in the wrestling community who are the absolute greatest! They don't ignore or belittle me, and I appreciate that so much!
I love concept albums/artists so much! One of my favorite artists, Ginger Root, is basically a character set in the 80s who writes for a city pop artist before becoming one himself. Highly recommend!
MatPat if you're curious about Taylor Swift and why she is popular there is a great video essay on UA-cam by Alexander Avila called "This Video Isn't Just About Taylor Swift. It's About You" that I can't recommend enough. As someone who did not grow up with TS and does not understand the hype that video made it make sense for me.
To go along with your question about music groups with lore, Coheed and Cambria is definitely the notable when it comes to a story spanning entire albums.

A band with a ton of lore is the band Gorillaz. Every album involves new lore with the band members. Heck, it’s in the same universe as the Powerpuff Girls as one of the PPG’s villains join the band in one album.

the term juxtaposition was in my mind for much of this episode with Matpat's game reactions and Ash's discussions. fantastic that it came up again at the end.
also when he had that fall at the end, i went back immediately to try see how many of the five stages showed on his face in those few seconds, then finished the episode just for them to also discuss the five stages.
i have never specifically listened to Taylor Swift, and had no idea about most of what was talked about. it was all really interesting to hear, and makes me more interested in listening to her music. a part of me wishes this video was split in two so we could have full focus from both of them on that discussion, could easily just listen to that for a couple hours.
Love them or hate them; the Insane Clown Posse has mastered the game of lore in music. They’ve had decades of storylines and reoccurring characters, etc. Definitely deserve their flowers for their unique storytelling.

Twenty One Pilots immediately came to mind so I'm glad Ash mentioned them but also Melanie Martinez is an artist that has done that with pretty much all of her original songs. Most of her albums have a background story to go along with the general theme of the songs but her newest one is more direct with its approach and tells a new story.
You should check out K-POP music videos and albums if you guys are looking for lore. Would love to see a theory about the different groups and the stories behind their music videos! Especially stray kids! Would love to see a theory on what their videos mean! 37:49
lol I love how the video just became about Tay Tay at some point! I’ve been listening to TTPD all day today and I have “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” stuck in my head right now (On the subject of AMVs, I may turn that one into a One Piece Crocodile X Robin edit. Nakama, please don’t judge me for my questionable opinions lol 🐊🌸😂). For me, there was never really a point where I “got into” Taylor Swift, I just always listened to her! I haven't taken much time to look into it carefully but I know at least inside albums, Megadeth has stories going on. There are some loose or at least hidden connections in albums like "Youthanasia" then directly listing chapters of a story in "The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!"
