i’m a pastry chef currently in culinary school and a month ago i wrote an essay about this exact topic. bread is so ancient and is literally the reason we are alive.
Well if you wrote a paper on it in culinary school then I'm sure you know that's not exactly true. That's a very Eurocentric perspective. As stated in this video majority of the world did not rely on wheat as their primary food source. So no, bread is not the reason I am alive, nor is it part of my diet today.

However, I do think that this correlation between bread and power is either, just that, purely correlation, or, that it is just one of many things that determines which societies end up on top.
When I was eight, my teacher asked the class what food would we eat if that was the only thing we could eat for the rest of our life and I said bread. She said I would get sick of it, but I argued against that until the end of class. If you are what you eat, I am bread, and ONLY bread.

India is literally the 8th largest exporter of wheat, and north Indian Vedic civilisation came to be around the Ganges because of the wheat. Russia is the largest exporter of wheat, and bread played a key role in the Communism aspect of Russia's history. Lenin famously promised the Russians for some bread, land and peace.

I once heard that "grass domesticated people". People shaped their entire lives to making grass, then wheat, grow and grow well. To protect it from predators like mice and rabbits, cure it of disease, give it water when it's thirsty, shelter it when its cold, and replant it when it dies. The bond between wheat and people has always been fascinating to me. And now this... THIS is what I call COOL food for thought!

Persia didnt really exist come 300 BC, it was conquered by Alexander the Great in 330 BC and by 300 BC its lands would largely be apart of the diadochi successor states following Alexander's death. The Seleucid Empire was founded in 312 BC, lasted until 64 BC when it was conquered itself.

I once heard that "grass domesticated people". People shaped their entire lives to making grass, then wheat, grow and grow well. To protect it from predators like mice and rabbits, cure it of disease, give it water when it's thirsty, shelter it when its cold, and replant it when it dies. The bond between wheat and people has always been fascinating to me. And now this... THIS is what I call COOL food for thought!
This was a very unexpected deep dive into the history of bread, you never really think about something like bread being so impactful or influential on actual events in human history, but given how versatile bread is as a food, it does make sense. Thank you MatPat for another fantastic video.

Persia didnt really exist come 300 BC, it was conquered by Alexander the Great in 330 BC and by 300 BC its lands would largely be apart of the diadochi successor states following Alexander's death. The Seleucid Empire was founded in 312 BC, lasted until 64 BC when it was conquered itself.
And Aeneas was a trojan who survived the trojan war, going on to found the race of Romans. I don't think he was ever considered Persian

There's plenty of history channels on youtube if you're interested! I understand what you mean by specifically wanting one being part of the theorist team, but also considering how much work doing research can be in any subject, it would probably be quite a lot on their plates. I think other history-related channels I watch are dress historians 😅
