how do you write for example a downbeating conjugate nystagmus which fades in up gaze symbolically using arrows figuratively can you show me how it will be documented on patient's chart
Thankyou, that was the best explanation I’ve found. Now I know it’s peripheral as it happens with one of my extra tinnitus sounds in one ear . I think the ENT is looking for keratin buildup (can’t remember the long name she said but ended with toma). ❤
Hi! Watched videos of what nystagmus looks like, and I cant find anything that looks the same as in my babys (4m). Waiting to get her checked out by an eyedoctor and neverologist. She mainly as a very rapid vibration almost, in both eyes when looking straight at us, mostly after wakikg up from a nap (from swinging crib). If I blink myself its hard to catch it happening. I’ve tried all sorts of triggering to see if it happens in sertain situations, but cant say that it does, and it does not happen alot. I can’t find any signs that she has poor eyesight and her red-reflex is there in photos.. is this still what you would call nystagmus?
I get nystagmus when concentrating too hard. I feel my eyes quickly jerk back and forth, and then they stay normal for a while unless I change my gaze.
If horizontal nystagmus always meant peripheral, we would have the "N" exam, not the "HINTS" exam. Peripheral nystagmus from vestibular neuritis does not fatigue. And BPPV often shows a prominent vertical component.
Yes you're absolutely right, I'm sorry if I was unclear or didn't mention that. The combined results of all 3 tests gives the suspicion towards either a central or a peripheral cause. Horizontal nystagmus is one of the points that gives a suspicion, but the results have to be combined with the results from skew deviation and head impulse for the most accurate answer (sensitivity and specificity of both around ~95%).
@@Mr.C0ffee Nystagmus is evaluated together with two other tests, Head Impulse and Test of Skew/Skew Deviation. These tests make up the full HINTS exam. Peter Johns has himself some great videos on the full HINTS exam, not only the Nystagmus part as this video is about. I would definetely recommend checking them out.
I have nystagmus but am living in a thirld world country so I don't really have access to doctors who know a lot about it, are there anynew developements in the tratments for nystagmus? It seems like researchers don't really look into nystagmus a lot
Hi doc, hope you are doing good, greetings from INDIA. I actually have a question, so while i am reading or studying and suddenly i shift my eyes while i am referring one or more books, my eyes start moving left to right and it is rapid, this is not that frequent but yes it does happen to me occasionally. I wanted to know if that can be counted under nystagmus? If yes, then what can i do to you know cure it? Awaiting your reply, thanks...👍🙏
@@shantanubhingardive3107 hi bro when i watch movies and camera moves to any direction fast i can't see its too fast and feels like i can't focus at center and also eyes not moving smooth
Hi at what age do you see this happening? I have a 2 months old baby and usually i see his eyes moving normal but since 2 months now I’ve seen his eyes shaky 2 times. And it’s usually in the middle of the eyes. At first i thought it was him having siezure or trying to fixate focus on an object then it happened but after googling it it look like nystagmus…
Unfortunately I'm not able to give a safe assessment just based on a comment, or text in general. I therefore have to advice you to consult your general practitioner, so he/she can evaluate if there is a problem or not.
Hey man, shantanu from india, i wanted to know how frequently does nystagmus happen to you? I mean how many times do you experience it in a day or say in a week?
It is hard to know, depends what you mean by shaking. However, I would advice you to see a physician if you're worried, as it is hard for me to give a good answer based on text. Sorry.
Great piece of work👍

Can you recommend any android app that can be theoretically useful to detect and diagnose forms of nystagmus?
Amazing presentation!
I wonder what does a patient with nystagmus would see? Would there be any kind of symptoms, for example, blurred vision?
is there relation between hypovitamine D and nystagmus?

Most people only get this test once they've been pulled over for DUI suspicion.
@cannamich5813 that's very interesting, so they don't test for it during the exams before they give you a license
Absolutely agree and wanted to know as there any success in this field
