I use a small, really cheap rough surface plastic chopping board and it works really well with Inktense and only cost £1.99 at a UK chain homeware store
Fabulous x
Loved watching this. It’s amazing they can create such a vibrant product in a pencil. I always associate Caran D’ache with my first set that I bought with my ‘holiday’ money in a WH Smith 55 years ago! They’ve always been a quality brand.
Thank you. They are amazing
Thank you for the in-depth tutorial Helen. Thoroughly enjoyed it and just recieved the palette which I can’t wait to use 😊
Thank you Oh it’s great to use. Let me know what you think x
Wonderful demo, will be getting the pencil set and watching more of your videos, just love it !!!!!❤
Thank you Sharon x
Your work with Intense pencils is incredible. Somewhere I have that Caron D'Ache palette. I don’t expect your results, but I’ll certainly give this method a try. This tutorial was great. Thank you, Rae!
Oh thank you very much x
And just when I thought I had all the art supplies I needed, (I have 2 sets of your brushes), I need to get that palette next! Thanks, Rae, for all your efforts to share your knowledge!
lol. Thank you xx
These little palettes are wonderful. I use mine with any type of watercolor pencil because like you, I don't like seeing the tooth of the paper. Thank you, as always for a great tutorial.
Thank you. I was so surprised at how good it is compared to using paper to scribble
What a gorgeous piece!!! I'm always so impressed, thank-you so much for sharing 🤗❤🙌😊🎉👍😍✨😎🐝
Thanks so much 😊 Dr Bee x
I am watching this with a big smile! Don't know if you remember, but a few months ago I was practically begging for you to try either the Caron D'Ache palette, or do like I did, which was purchase a textured cutting mat that has the same texture as the Caron D'Ache one. I got a small and a large in a set for only $6. Anyhow, I KNEW you needed to try this. Thank you, Jeremy, for purchasing this item for Rae!
I thought that the pencils would stain, but they actually didn't, at least on my cutting mats. I just took liquid dish soap and an old toothbrush and gave it a gentle scrub. No staining at all. Oh, and a tip for painting in your sketchbook so you don't have the "wobble." Take a piece of putty eraser, roll it into a ball, and put on your desk. Then place the left side of the sketchbook on top, and smush it down on the eraser until it's level. It will hold at that height while you're painting.
Oh I do remember. It was on my list of thing to get. Jeremy beat me to it lol x
Brilliant!! Thank you x
That palette is now on my ‘to get’ list 😂
Yay x
Oh my. So beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you. Glad you like it x
I LOVED your real time reaction, that was awesome! Thank you so much for sharing it. As usual a brilliant tutorial, so informative, helpful, making watercolour and art look so much fun and also approachable. Thank you for your generosity, Helen :)
Aww thank you. I was genuinely surprised at how good it was xx
This is lovely Rae. And that palette is available on Amazon as well. I have one and it makes a big difference.
Thank you. It’s great isn’t it x
Absolutely beautiful 🎉
Thank you! 😊

Thank you Jessica x
Love your videos! Well done❤
Thanks Kathy x
Thank you Helen for another incredible video. Your Lily is amazing and I’m so looking forward to painting this one. I love inktense as well and look forward to painting this project tomorrow. Today has been a bit hectic and I’m just catching up this evening. Much love - Dawn 🌅
Aw thank you Dawn. Have fun xx
Yes! Big color payout with the rough textured palette!
It’s fantastic x
@@helencampbell if you find the palette stains, I’ve found a Mr. Clean eraser works well to get all the pigment out of the crannies. 😊
@jenniferboresi6907 thank you. Ill try my magic eraser which may do the trick
I bought the set of 12 and then added single colours that I wanted.
They are great aren’t they
Good morning Rae, good to see you. Thank you for yet another super tutorial. X
Good morning. Thank you for being here x
Beautiful Rae. I have some inktense pencils but have hardly used them, but now I’ve seen your video, I feel much more confident about using them, thank you. I’m glad you’ve discovered the Caran d’Ache palette - it’s great isn’t it?! A real game changer 😊❤
Thank you Sarah. Oh yes. I was sooo surprised lol. You can hear it in my voice. Literally a game changer xx
Thank you for making and posting this tutorial. I’m going to try it later today!
Thank you Alice. Have fun
I did it, but had to make some substitutions! I’ll post on the FB page.
@@alicechampagne7091 hi Alice. You did a great job. I’ve commented on your post over there
Individual intense pencils are a tad over £2 each, depending on the supplier Rea.
Thank you
Thanks for this lovely tutorial. BTW, the Patreon link points to "DRAGON FRUIT - EPISODE ONE" not here.
Oh gosh. Thank you for letting me know x
Love this! I was wondering if you consider this finished (because of your time limit with video)? Would you add any green leaves to this ?? I need to get my pencils out again ! Thank you!!
Hi. Yes it’s finished but it would look great with leave x
Hi Rae..Thank you so much for another lovely tutorial ❤ Does the inktense cause any staining on the pallette?
Hi. You are welcome. Yes, it does but it doesn’t cause too much of a problem.
@@helencampbell Thanks 😊 I'll give it a go
@priyabhana7777 brilliant. Let me know how you get on x
I don’t understand the need for pencils if you use like regular palette. I would think the attraction is to draw with them and then the marks blend in ?
I explain why in the video. They are ink based and do not lift of in the way watercolour does so are more vibrant and easier to use. If used in the way you suggest they can leave pencil lines on the paper. Some people like it but it’s not for me
That palette looks a bit of alright, did it clean off completely though or do the inks leave a stain? I'm always a bit worried about some colours, veridian and pthalo colours for example always seem to leave a stain behind.
Yes they do stain but I’m told a magic eraser will remove
@@helencampbell Thank you for that, Helen. I just tried a white polypropylene board that I bought some years ago from Asda, meant for cutting in the kitchen, I think. I bought a few and use them as a palette for watercolour or acrylics, they were so cheap. In trying them now, they have a slight blistery surface, the Inktense does grip to the surface and they stay wet because the plastic can't absorb water. So they worked, but the pencils do leave the white board slightly stained.
I'm going to try something else now to remove the stains...
This is fun! 😆
Edited bit : YES, it worked. A sheet of kitchen paper and a dab of rapeseed cooking oil (others would work) and a bit of elbow grease and it comes up clean as a whistle.
Now, do Asda still sell these boards. 🤔 It's a great idea, thank you!
It’s great isn’t it. The staining doesn’t really matter though as it won’t pick it up next time it’s used x
@@helencampbell Finally had a go at this one although I only had the 24 pencil set so I had to try and blend some colours together to try and match yours. I had chilli red and bark, that was it. Still I really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for getting me to use these Inktense pencils after so many years.
@WolfmanWoody oh that’s wonderful. I’m so glad that you did it and used the colours you had. Yay x
