Mine’s going on 10 yrs old early next year. Best thing I’ve ever purchased, well worth the cost. When they release a next Gen, I’ll buy it asap, no questions asked.
I worry about the emerging idea of paid updates in other products but apart from that, my Helix LT is one of, if not THE best gear investment I’ve made over the years.
Other than "I'll double check the reviews first", I'm totally in this camp. Complaining about only getting 6 new amps at this point is....well, it's a choice. My preference next update would be a next gen L6 that I can port all my legacy stuff straight into. L6 have shown care in looking after their products and extending them well beyond what they could do at launch. I can only assume that we'll see a box 2/3 the size with 2x (or more) the DSP available in the next iteration. I love the options the helix gives and there are only really a few niggles around routing (e.g. having to setup every patch individually for fx loop in/out (and yes, sure, there are workarounds), no metronome and a few other really minor things.
The fact that it has been going strong for 10 years is a side effect of another one - they don't really know what to improve. I mean, 10 more years and they all (the manufacturers) are going to be pushing at the same wall of diminishing returns. Unless, of course, Russia starts a "nucular" fallout event
I have a Helix lt; used it on an album, used it on tour. The thing is brilliant. If you're complaining about an update, settle, petal. Plenty of rad stuff already in there.
Just so you know, free updates aren't new lol. For LOTS of things. The fact that something is still done old school is probably what's surprising a lot of people since we live in a world that is death by microtransactions. Nearly all the software I use on my computer comes with free updates. Many video games come with free updates. Free also doesn't give you license to release a crap product.
Oh so you decided to generalize the topic. How about staying in the world of modellers, so we don't loose focus? And are you saying Helix is crap or did I miss the point?
I’d suggest folks to just get a helix device secondhand. I see the full sized helix floors for $900 locally. Stomps are in the $400 and XL’s just over $500. Really amazing products for that kind of money
I’ve been trying to get a used HX stomp but the prices are close enough to a new one I seems silly not to get one with a warranty. The Helix LT used is better value and not a huge amount more than a HX stomp used but I’ve missed out one a few now. Maybe it’s different in other places though.
It is rather strange to complain about free updates to a great piece of hardware that still pretty much keeps up with anything else out there. Seems a bit of a "shut up and take my money" mentality to me.
Seeing what's been released in each version on your overlay is interesting. I think people forget what they've been given over the lifetime of the Helix family; some folk also just like to complain at every opportunity I think one of the biggest updates they could give to the current line of products before discontinuing them for the next flagship unit is giving us the power amp section of each amp like they have with the pre-amps. That way you could mix and match a lot of new, unique tones - even people using an HX Stomp purely as an amp pedal on their pedalboard with external drives/mod/ambient effects could get some interesting sounds using any pre-amp block, any power amp block, a cab block and then have 5 other blocks for compression/EQ to sculpt their perfect amp tone
A quick look at line6’s track record will tell you you they probably won’t release a new flagship product during an economic downturn. Eric is on record saying they delayed the release of what became Helix back in 2008 till 2015. Makes good business sense and it’s better for us consumers to support current products rather than ask us the shell out more cash. Most likely the big update will be 4.0 in my estimation, for what thats worth. Hopefully they’ll have some more cool stuff for everybody. Besides I think they followed this update pattern in the past. I think we got a smaller update right before 3.0, but I could be mistaken. Could have been an earlier one. Be patient, lads. Our boys at Line6 have never let us down.
Bluetooth, Mobile App, Type C, Touchscreen, Capture Tech, 4-8x DSP that's what I want, everything else pretty much the same and I'd be happy. I'm sure there's things I'm forgetting but those are the main points.
I think we should appreciate the way Line 6 doing things, they keep their product life cycle longer rather than doing the "smartphone route" (if you know what i mean) and it benefits more for their users,... That being said if they ever release their next flagship product i hope it will features some of these things : compact unit, more powerful DSP, the capacity for HD IR, better starting presets, and room IR capability
I would think there would be a provision for phone connectivity, many products incorporating that, and it increases the flexibility. Sure, midi control, but now phone too
I am so impressed with the quality that the new gear came out to be. I'm playing the Ecstasy blue through the new cartographer 412 right now and it is SMOKIN'. Sounds dead-on with the Synergy model I used to have.
Some perspective from a Line 6 user from when POD2.0 was launched forward. I currently own my original POD2.0, a PODXT LIVE, a PODHD500X and a Helix Floor. Obviously, I skipped multiple POD versions between my PODXT LIVE and my HD500X. The reason for this is fairly simple; while each version had some interesting features between it and the previous one, there wasn’t enough difference to justify the expense. Certainly, I consider the Helix the best yet. However, I’ve kept the others because there are certain amp models where I feel like the tones are excellent. The touted difference with Helix is that it “feels” more like an actual amp than its predecessors. Though I’d say that it’s relative responsiveness is more “amp like”, this is a fairly subtle thing where the contrast isn’t “night and day”. While Line 6 may indeed be working on “what’s next” and I’ll undoubtedly find it interesting, I have effectively no dissatisfaction with my Helix and won’t be an early adopter anyway.
I dont need a touchscreen, captures isnt all that, you spend all that money buying the moddeller, most of you wont be buying the rare boutique amps to capture, the helix sounds amazing, i personally would love a smaller version with more dsp, captures would be nice to have but not all that to me,
@basilkatz700 yeah , maybe a little bigger I found the stomp a little cramped but we don't need helix floor size, also variable snapshots, instead of 4 or 8, you could have 2, 3 , 5
The new amps sounds killer though, I don't need anything else. Hopefully they are not going the capture/profiling route, that market is saturated in my opinion.
In the early 00s, Line 6 allowed you to upgrade your Vetta to a Vetta II for free and then continued to give free updates for it for years afterwards. Not that I expect history to repeat itself, they’re a very different company than they were 20 years ago. But the reason I mention it, is that what features are left that the Helix doesn’t have? The only things I can think of are a touch screen and tone capture. If that’s what the next device does, anything modeled for the new device could potentially be included for the helix as well. And I think next year, there’s going to be a big Helix update, both for 4.0 and the tenth anniversary.
I think you are right about holding back significant feature improvements to allow there to be an appropriate level of differentiation between Helix and whatever comes next from Line 6. Given that the introduction of the HX Stomp trailed behind the introduction of the Helix, I would expect that the same would be true with what comes next (ie: large, expensive professional tool followed eventually by a small semi-pro less expensive tool). If the next small device is 2+ years away, buying a Stomp still makes sense. But of course we do't know how far away it is, so it continues to be hard to advise anyone what to do. But having said that, I still think that using the Stomp is a very viable way to go in late 2024. And don't think I would consider jumping to a different brand at this point.
Only downside on the Helix is the restriction on CPU, There's still a lot of potential in the unit. I hope there will be more setlists, IR space, more flexible routing (blocks).
helix update 3.80 change my sound This probably should go under the "all in my head" category, but I was wondering if anyone else thought their presets sound a little different after upgrading to 3.80. I have the Helix floor i did the backup recover updated the Firmware import the backup presets i have and now, my presets sound different . My drive patches seem to sound more fizzy... like the drive was turned up. Has anyone else had this happen? thanks.
I wish they could add a touch screen and expand the looper time with the option to save loops and add drum loops. If they added that to a future Helix 2 that would be the ultimate for me at least.
The device is already packed with options - overwhelming. Each update pumps a bunch of new options in it and exploring all these options may keep you away from making music. I always update my device when a new update is published, just to be on the latest status of software, but I have stopped to spent more time on programming presets than to practice guitar playing and songs.
When you build a product that is as good as the Helix is there isn’t much to be improved if they could some how come up with a module that could be fitted inside to increase the DSP then from what i have read most owners would be happy . Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s better , just look at camera technology they keep bringing out new cameras but in the end you have to be the photographer , same as being the guitarist .
When line 6 is going release next-gen platform and it will be as durable as xelix I'm gonna sell my cortex and buy line 6. Because cortex is great, but very fragile
Line6 has always been generous with the helix updates. Long way from the old pod upgrade pack days. Helix has been a great value over its lifetime and that would very much tempt me to upgrade to whatever they release next.
Cannot believe people complain when they got it FOR FREE!!!! They could have done a KEMper, and charged but I am sure Kemp is hearing it about it for sure.
I've had an lt for over three years and I can tell you that there is way more than a person will ever need in the helix. scratching the surface is almost enough
For me, I like the full power of Helix.I like the many foot switches. The scribble switches. All the assignment capabilities. The only thing I thought of for an improvement would be the ability within snapshots to change model block sequence between snapshots. Or possibly figure out how to eliminate the need for high cut low cut usage. (Maybe not possible). Most of the time I use an amp model cabinet 10:48 and a good reverb. Use snapshots to change the drive. Add a wah pedal. Simple and rustic… I love that it’s “big”. For me I like that I just grab Helix floor . My Variax, an acoustic, maybe my Les Paul. That’s it. I use the Head Rush speakers (2 of them). I play at home. Love the sound. Get free amps and updates!!! I can’t or won’t pay for tube amps that only has 1 sound. 1 trick pony. I’ve thought about it. I have a Music Man amp! Love it. 1 trick pony!!! Love it !!! But Helix !!! Hands down , gives me a “studio” of amps effects, cabinets, cables. And more fun than a barrel of monkeys!! By the way. I’m 61 years old. If I can enjoy Helix than everybody can…
Going to be interesting to see what the future holds for line 6. Yeah they are at the end of this products cycle. It time for a new product that will again become the industry benchmark.
Does Helix, have a preset simulate the Fender blackface ? Does Helix have the Fender Blackface model ? I dont find. Why they dont emulate the Fender blackface ? Regards from Portugal
The last 2 updates showed Helix can model with the best of them. My opinion? Line 6 should sell a capture machine, similar to Nano Cortex, then introduce in the 4.0 update the ability for the existing hardware and software to put those captures in the chain. Nothing could compete with Helix then. I would buy that capture machine day one… Cheers!!! Dave
I'll be interested to check out that Bogner amp along with the Super. Bogner also designed the L6 DT series of amps. They were designed so they could sound almost like anything - so an actual tube amp that was also a 'model' in a way (part of the 'dream rig'). All those features also made the amp very unreliable (mine broke 3 times, and the last time I didn't even bother to fix it - it is just an 80lb weight now). Regarding your comments about what's next, other than the captures, all the features you mentioned were ergonomic, and I am not sure that really answers the 'pushing the envelope' call. Without a real upgrade in sound quality, I am not sure why they would do something new.
Most probably. 3.80 should be called "Goodbye update" ;-) My guess/wish about the new device is: full compatibility with the predecessor, touch screen, capturing, quad dsp, smaller form (no exp/vol pedal), wifi, bluetooth (controll app/streaming), built in power supply. Let's have it soon ;)
I'm sure that they have been working on the next "helix" for a while now, but I don't think that this is the last update or that they aren't still working on improving the current HX line.
I’m ready for a next gen helix. If it could get the amp thing down as well as UAFX and bump up the overall sound quality as well as better modeling on the fx - 100% instabuy. Also if they can hit all the cool hipster fx - chase bliss, hologram electronics etc - a no brainer.
Why not make the processor on the next Line 6 product a Swappable module ? You could future proof it for some time then as you could upgrade processing power to suit your needs 😀👍
@@RichardFelipeMendez I didn’t say it’s an incredible cinematography.. I’m complimenting the guy because I’ve noticed a positive change lately, which to me is most welcome. I haven’t watched every single videos on this channel, but I’ve seen much flatter lighting with less separation in his older ones. Plus, that shadow is totally fine.. smooth gradient in the corner.. natural placement kinda looks like a vignette that focuses on John and his guitar. Not everything has to be flat. Even though it’s educationnal, it’s also ART, and not every part of the image has to be shown.
@@davidmultimedia2024 you said much improved, and i literally said not really. as in it hasnt improved much or at all in my opinion. i literally responded to exactly what you were saying. not all this other stuff you're bringing up. but sure you wanna get technical. the color temp hes using for the fill on the right is different (warmer) from whatever fill hes got going on the left, which if i had to guess is an open window. The light on the right is also lower than his eyes, which is pushing the shadow up and to the left. If he was telling a scary story, sure this might look more intentional, but bro is just talking about gear. Unintentional shadows all over the place, which appears to be more of a mistake that an intended work of art. again, i just wanted to point out that his video has not improved much (in regards to it visually), and that shadow to the top left is a bug not a feature.
@ Such a stupid way to interract with people. First, I doubt you could teach me anything about cinematography or filmmaking in general.. as your perspective right here shows how simple minded you actually are. Stop stroking your ego. You’re clearly a black and white kind of guy with little to no true empathy for people. Regardless of any opinion you may have, the whole point here is that any reply whatsoever to a 'compliment’ (not a ‘question’) addressed directly to John is freaking useless if it’s not to approove or add up something. Who cares if you don’t agree seriously? It’s sad but funny how some people simply can’t judge when it’s just innopropriate to reply, especially on the internet. I don’t have to know you personnally to get the kind of person you are. Just the fact that you see someone complimenting someone, and because you don’t agree with the statement, you feel the need to ruin the good energy by pointing out POINTLESS gaffing technicalities, in an attempt to show superiority.. which clearly you’re not. as using multiple color temperatures has been commonly done for what.. almost a century now?! Kid, not because you’ve once learned that mixing color temps can potentially pollute the light spectrum that you have to use the same color temp all the time in a scene. Learn cinematography.. it’s all about control and intention. LOTS (if not MOST) cinematographers/DOPs will use a cooler fill with a warm key light, otherwise it would always look monochromatic. Using a single color temp is crucial when looking to ‘neutralize’ your image.. this rule can be broken as much as you want, if it looks/feels good, it is good. See, I can point out technical stuff as well.. and even though he’s talking about gear, it doesn’t change anything lol stop putting things in boxes because you’ve learned some ‘standards’ from UA-camrs.. strong shadows, and light coming from below aren’t only for horror. Art is Art, wether you like it or not. That said, maybe you should start considering the social impact your useless comments have.. all of this could have been prevented. I could have ignored you as well and not waste any more time.. but I don’t know, jerks like you need to learn to STFU sometimes. Make better use of your time and improve your social skills, aka keep your useless opinion to yourself, instead of replying to comments that aren’t addressed to you. You’re not helping anyone. Don’t waste any more time replying.. I definitely won’t read (but of course you will reply.. you’re a smartass)
Line 6 are great at honouring their past. The FX from the previous generation are all included in Helix and when the inevitable update comes, they'll no doubt be present in whatever comes next. In many cases, the only thing I think could benefit a lot of Helix FX is extra DSP and running pitch based ones at higher sample rates. DSP issues are real. The software has long eclipsed the capabilities of the hardware.
Just looked up the trademark stuff. Definitely seems like something is in the works, though probably not a direct helix replacement. Maybe keep the helix line and offer something else? In retrospect, the helix could have replaced the pod line, but they still have that. Anyone’s guess at this point.
If they could put a Variax inside a Helix mk2 type modeller that would enable you to then lightly mod any (read: also lefthanded) guitar to use that technology, I’d instantly sell anything I had to get that
The Variax has individual piezo saddles for each string, so it's able to do alt tunings. I don't know if that's possible via just software or light hardware. But to get one guitar to sound like another, it's surprisingly simple. It's basically just a diff of the target IR/EQ and the source IR/EQ. Mooer makes a pedal (the Tone Capture GTR) that does this fairly effectively. Leon Todd also has a video showing how to do this with just an EQ. So if Line 6 would put that into the next Helix, it'd get you halfway there towards Variax.
@ I should have added: “…just by installing a compatible piezo pickup” but I got distracted. Being a lefthander who has to travel quite a bit, and by often very unglamorous means, I’ve had to get used to doing everything with a headless electric. My acoustic instruments are at home 98.9%, so I’ve always been just a bit bitter about Line 6 refusing to offer a left handed version, because IMO that is where most of the customers for Variax are to be found. Right handers can go anywhere in the world safe in the knowledge that they can pretty spontaneously lend or borrow most types of guitars, like, e.g. a 12-string, within a day if needed so why get a digital monstrosity like a Variax. The percentage of guitarists who are left handed is probably lower than the percentage of left handers in the population, but within that target group they could potentially have sold several hundred thousand Variax guitars 🤌
I'm not sure what there is to complain about. Line6 still releases free upgrades with a decent amount of content. Kemper just released a PAID upgrade for their NEW device. So you tell me. If Line6 releases their version of amp capture I'll be on board with a Helix 2.
If Line 6 follows the leader it will be outside the norm for them. I think what’s next is entirely new. A game changer I have no idea but I don’t see them making a next gen device that simply has what everyone else has. Helix will be around for a while.
I definitely see the offering new and more powerful hardware with some UI advancements, but I think it will be a continuation of the Helix architecture.
It won't be a replacement to something in the Helix current line - the way a manufacturer launches a new product is to make it an add-on to the current range. So something like the Boss GT / GX that uses all Line 6 technologies and picks up on what Boss are doing well in the parallel World of multi-effects? There's such a lot of scope for Line 6 to make a Helix product easier to use and widen the market. Having played for 60 years and been a pro for some of that, I'm not a dolt. But getting into a Helix XL has been hard - I put off starting the learning curve for 9 months and then jumped in and ground my way through learning how to use it for the last three months. It's been rather like buying a car, but what turned up was a kit-car and a huge cabinet of tools, and a 200 page instruction set on how to assemble it before you can even get it out of the garage! It's so easy to see what the next product should be - all the tech - but works like a Strymon Iridium. Not as knob-fest as the ME90 - but you get the trajectory? We are players not computer programmers. There must be a very good market for someone who assembles the Helix, ready-to-play, for a player
john please do a video on the pod x3 live! and show how different it is to say the helix cause it’s basically like a baby helix with the legacy cabs and effects but i wanna see what you do with those models!
The only thing I was disappointed with was that the Flux feature wasn't introduced (as it's on the HX One). Once they do release the Helix successor, if they drop the Variax support, I will likely not be upgrading. I can't do without my Shuriken, and it couples with the Helix perfectly.
A lot of their updates lately sound INCREDIBLE. However, with that they are also much more DSP intensive. A LOT has changed in the tech world since then. The next Helix or whatever should be a powerhouse really. There's a lot of people who will say the DSP is fine but they're trying to just be nice. Can we still do quite a bit? Sure. But the new effects and amps being released changes the those DSP requirements and if you're realistic about them, you know it's time for MASSIVE processor and memory upgrades. Whatever they come out with will be exciting. If not, I'll just get a Quad Cortex and call it a day. Even the QC isn't as powerful as I'd want, but I'm a power hungry nerd so there's that lol.
I'd like to see the nexus 2026 be slightly bigger than the qc , with modular addons like wireless and expression that you plug to one side if you want them at an extra cost , tone capturing isn't necessary at all, think about it these guys capture real expensive and great amps in a controlled environment with the best equipment available, you plug your sad amp in to capture it for nostalgia or vanity reasons so not required at all. More dsp or new gen dsp is a must, stick with the free updates a touch screen but still with the black nobs below for dialing in. 10 footswitches including the mode tap tempo and bank switches giving 6 snapshots or pre sets to help reduce size , the second row of switches should be either taller or higher to aid in selection . The back that leads to the inputs should be labelled up so you can see the ins and outs from above looking down on the unit and they should glow in the dark including the logo. All input and output rings should be colour coded and you shouldn't need midi control so scrap it along with the variax input or modular unit it along with the expression pedal and wireless, one box does everything that is needed stereo outs both xlr and 1/4 inch , guitar in mic in . i'd love to work for line 6 .lol.
You sell merchandise!? I had no idea and I watch almost every video. I know TrueFire is the bomb, maybe also mention your merch and we’ll buy your stuff Edit: I don’t see a mug anywhere?
My bet is on NEXUS being a hardware and software comms protocol to challenge the expensive ( to license ) but widely used DANTE protocol. Dante allows audio and midi and digital info to be sent and wired over powered ethernet PoE. Given Yamaha’s huge broad pro-audio product list they would save a lot of money by just bypassing DANTE with their own version. Having said that there is an official IEEE (or AES?) standard that competes somewhat with Dante but not many seem to be using and maybe NEXUS just allows YAMAHA to be a little “Apple In-House” with all this. I’d imagine that it incorporates MIDI 2.0 into its protocol software stack as 2.0 recently adds support for MIDI over ether net cabling- something that hopefully will one day supplant those awful MIDI DIN cables and sockets.
Blade Runner? So ... Replicant? That sounds like capture. Thinking a capture / standalone amp box to enable making captures that can run a single capture, but then add the ability to run captures into the rest of the range. Edit: found the thread and the corresponding trademark application. It looks very much *not* like another Helix type product. It looks like a small tech/quality of life improvement that uses Ethernet cables for everything. Maybe a stage box or 16 channel audio interface, or just a formalization / expansion of their pre-existing Ethernet cable based communications tech.
Could it be the reason it's quite a "small" update be because it was rushed out because they don't want to miss the update party that lots of devices seem to be having?
I don’t mind the small updates, especially since I’ve been wanting the 5150 III for so long, but it shouldn’t have taken a decade of us asking, is all I’m gonna say. Right now I’m very comfortable sticking with the helix, and definitely waiting on a Helix 2 to drop, but the only thing that makes me a little envious of Fractal is their mountain of amps in the lineup. Really hope Line 6 catches up, cause I want to stay with them.
It'll really suck of they let Helix go the way of the HD500 and just release something brand new (Nexus?) with basically premium/DSP-heavy Helix tech running inside.
man.. only upgrade worth having would need to be compatible with the existing Helix/HX stomp/Native ecosystem, which to me is the biggest selling point.
Software is the hard part in building a modeler. Line6 has made a huge investment in their core system, ensuring it can be efficiently hosted on many platforms including Helix Native. I don't see this changing. What is more likely is smaller, more efficient, powerful and cheaper hardware that is easier to use. That new hardware might have sufficient DSP to open up possibilities for more complex models that might not run on the older platforms. Captures are also a possibility. We'll have to see. I suppose the bigger issue for Line6 is the perception that their amp models and effects are comprehensive and creative, but not as professional sounding as other options, especially Fractal Audio. We've seen multiple evolutions of these effects from POD (2/XT/500) to HX. They might evolve again. Might be a hard business case to make though.
It’s been a very good few years that the boys in California have been hinting at just how much they’d love to show us what they’re working on, so just maybe they’ll put this far too often used Game changing lark to bed and we will start talking about getting down to work and not play 😅. We definitely have more than enough as is to keep us all busy. I’m really hoping they’ll come out with more guitar based objects so we can direct the DSP right from the instrument and wearables. We will always have stomps but more could be done I think to help showmanship.
If a helix had tone capture it wouldnt be a modeller would it?. I mean thats what Line 6 have been brilliant at...modelling. Why dilute an outstanding product with something like that. Let someone else do it. The helix is outstanding at what it does which is why so many people have them. Also this need for the newest best thing. You realise people still use M5s and M9s because they are so bloody good.
What do i want from line 6 next... a version of Stomp XL with a pedal - so the pod go format (perfect footprint) BUT with waaay more DSP, 15 fx in the chain like GX10, dual amping and upgraded touchscreen / bluetooth GUI. All for £400 😅😅 asking too much..??
To me a better HELIX would be smaller and have more DSP : that's IT! I don't think capture is the future of digital guitar products. I've had my HELIX for 8 years now, and it's the best piece of music gear I ever bought. I can't find a genre my HELIX couldn't handle. I play metal, hard rock, rock and blues, and have my preferred amps, cabs and effects, but even if I were to play jazz or whatever, I'm 100% I could get a great tone for that particular genre. My favorite blocks : Bassman (for guitar or bass) Mesa Mark IV The latest JCM 800 Tweed 5E3 Peavey 5150 (the old one, haven't tried the new one yet) 4x12 Orange cab 2x12 EV open back 4x12 Cali V30 ENGL XXL V30 King Of Tone Timmy Triptych fuzz Octafuzz Legacy '63 Spring Legacy Shimmer Dynamic Plate Transistor tape Echo reel
I wouldn't be surprised if they kept updating helix even after releasing something new. They've built such a huge product line off of it I can't imagine them just abandoning the whole hx line.
@dimerocks123 absolutely, the hx stomp is an all time best seller beating every modeler out there in terms of sales for beginners and professional players ,I believe that's the case partly due to the undying support for the helix with new firmware updates along the years. We might have slowed and decreased the amount of updates coming but the momentum hasn't stopped yet baby (;
Maybe you’d sell some merch if you actually advertised it. I honestly had no idea that you even had merch. Don’t be afraid to push it. Everybody else does. 👍🏻
Mine’s going on 10 yrs old early next year. Best thing I’ve ever purchased, well worth the cost. When they release a next Gen, I’ll buy it asap, no questions asked.
Knowing their commitment to updates I would also be willing to buy in immediately knowing that any limitations it might have would be addressed
@ - agreed
I worry about the emerging idea of paid updates in other products but apart from that, my Helix LT is one of, if not THE best gear investment I’ve made over the years.

Human race is doomed to extinction

Picked up my hx effects locally for 300. They are an incredible value that's for sure.
I’ve been trying to get a used HX stomp but the prices are close enough to a new one I seems silly not to get one with a warranty. The Helix LT used is better value and not a huge amount more than a HX stomp used but I’ve missed out one a few now. Maybe it’s different in other places though.
@ oh yeah my prices listed are definitely region specific
It is rather strange to complain about free updates to a great piece of hardware that still pretty much keeps up with anything else out there. Seems a bit of a "shut up and take my money" mentality to me.
It doesn't keep up though. Helix sounds like trash compared to free neural amp captures.
It doesn't keep up though. Helix sounds like trash compared to free neural amp captures.
100% agree. What you got is really incredible. I’ve been a part of every single update and I’m never disappointed. It’s like Christmas morning.
Exactly
To be fair, the “free” updates are their point of difference, not something extra
Seeing what's been released in each version on your overlay is interesting. I think people forget what they've been given over the lifetime of the Helix family; some folk also just like to complain at every opportunity
I think one of the biggest updates they could give to the current line of products before discontinuing them for the next flagship unit is giving us the power amp section of each amp like they have with the pre-amps.
This is what's so strange to me about folks wanting a new flagship product so bad. You realize you're going to have to pay more money, right???
@@smoothsavage2870Exactly! And out of the other side of their mouth complain about the cost of every new guitar pedal that is released.
Got a strong feeling they've got a new flagship product coming...
We won’t get a big update until 4.0 but I guarantee the stuff for that they’ve been working on in the background…
Really awesome video man - and just lush playing as always. That Bogner preset was superb!
I dont need a touchscreen, captures isnt all that, you spend all that money buying the moddeller, most of you wont be buying the rare boutique amps to capture, the helix sounds amazing, i personally would love a smaller version with more dsp, captures would be nice to have but not all that to me,
I agree.. Smaller, more processing power. heaps of connectivity/expression options. The rest is optional for me.
Totally agree! Even a smaller unit like HX Stomp XL with the processing power of the bigger unit would make sense for me.
@basilkatz700 yeah , maybe a little bigger I found the stomp a little cramped but we don't need helix floor size, also variable snapshots, instead of 4 or 8, you could have 2, 3 , 5
So basically like Hotone ampero stage? =D
@togelz I wouldn't know I haven't heard of that
Buying hx stomp because of you was best thing I did. Mainly for helix native being free too.
The new amps sounds killer though, I don't need anything else.
Hopefully they are not going the capture/profiling route, that market is saturated in my opinion.
I've just got an IR D and that with the helix doesn't leave many stones unturned.
Just want them to keep Variax control. I like being able to switch tunings and to a an acoustic with the touch of a switch.
Pretty cool on the bender:) Wow I like how you are using the Bogner. Sounds spectacular.
If it 'could' be called Replicant, it sounds like it would have capture functionality, from the name alone.
Only downside on the Helix is the restriction on CPU, There's still a lot of potential in the unit. I hope there will be more setlists, IR space, more flexible routing (blocks).
You mean the Stomp?
John, which preset pack on your page is the Bogner preset? Love the tone in that Demo at 2:50! Amazing!!!!
Wonderful update....just done mine...love it
helix update 3.80 change my sound
This probably should go under the "all in my head" category, but I was wondering if anyone else thought their presets sound a little different after upgrading to 3.80. I have the Helix floor i did the backup recover updated the Firmware import the backup presets i have and now, my presets sound different .
My drive patches seem to sound more fizzy... like the drive was turned up.
Has anyone else had this happen? thanks.
Love the bogner ecstasy add ons. Especially the blue channel!
Always going to be complainers. 44k in that group. Look how many can't even update the device without issues.
I got mine when it was first out, ive only turned it on for updates :-) I can get into it
I just bought one brand new a few days ago, no regrets whatsoever.
How in the world do you make so many videos, JNC? I'm floored by people that post every day, and you've been posting 2-3 times a day!
He's GOOD has a Great system. And My Favorite player in the UK today.
I bought my Helix Floor last year and haven't even scratched the surface yet with all the features, pedals, amps, and cabs.
Dave
The fall/winter update is always light compared to the spring one. I only ask they add the power amp models of the amps like they split the preamps.
… before they’re done with the HX universe
I would love a Tonex with a modern gui, more foot switches, more sophisticated effects, Bluetooth and I would much prefer that Line-6 made it!
Tonex one is the worst of all of my purchases 😂
Ik should release an AmpliTube pedalboard with Tonex built in
I'm sure that they have been working on the next "helix" for a while now, but I don't think that this is the last update or that they aren't still working on improving the current HX line.
Ecstasy preset is 🔥 keep up the great work bro!
Helix Replicant - Nice!!
Why not make the processor on the next Line 6 product a Swappable module ? You could future proof it for some time then as you could upgrade processing power to suit your needs 😀👍
Stomp xl just needs another expression/footswitch or two, used mine up w switches so get no pedal, ughhh
Image quality and lighting is MUCH improved John, good job! ❤
Not really, pretty bad shadow to the left
Line 6 is bringing the Helix line in for a soft landing. The updates (other than bug fixes) will be smaller and further apart. I'm OK with that.
I feel like this is Line 6's way of teasing "something" it but trying not to leak anything.
They need to release the variax hardware in a retro fit kit and make a 2 or 1u stomp rack.
For me the Helix is nr1 in support. Watch the other companies and you will be surprised how good they are!
Seeing what the competition is releasing, I'm pretty confident next generation will include some form of profiling. I'm happy with my Stomp.
Hope these goes down in price. I sold an hx stomp a while ago cause I needed a pc. Hopefully I can get one again, miss the effects.
Just looked up the trademark stuff. Definitely seems like something is in the works, though probably not a direct helix replacement. Maybe keep the helix line and offer something else? In retrospect, the helix could have replaced the pod line, but they still have that. Anyone’s guess at this point.
just a question John,,is it a pedal in use on the preset Dumlebender?
If they could put a Variax inside a Helix mk2 type modeller that would enable you to then lightly mod any (read: also lefthanded) guitar to use that technology, I’d instantly sell anything I had to get that
Hear hear ❤
All I ever wanted was for the tuner to work across all inputs or at least for it to be savable per snapshot. 😢
john please do a video on the pod x3 live! and show how different it is to say the helix cause it’s basically like a baby helix with the legacy cabs and effects but i wanna see what you do with those models!
I'd love a smaller form factor... checked if my daily preset with snapshots would go onto a Stomp, but I use 9 blocks ;)
Do you think they'll come out with something similar to the other modelers out there? Like with a touch screen, profiling capabilities, etc.
Here's hoping we finally get a pod go update
The only thing I was disappointed with was that the Flux feature wasn't introduced (as it's on the HX One).
Once they do release the Helix successor, if they drop the Variax support, I will likely not be upgrading. I can't do without my Shuriken, and it couples with the Helix perfectly.
I agree with the comment regarding UI updating you parroted of others in the beginning. I just find the Stomp not to user friendly and non-intuitive.
I know TrueFire is the bomb, maybe also mention your merch and we’ll buy your stuff
Edit:
I don’t see a mug anywhere?
The trademark logo (the stylised N) seems to hint at neural networks....machine learning ahoy?
OK IT IS SETTLED, THEN. I'm waiting for the Line 6 Replicant.
A "Replicant" if you're wondering around 7:45 (I had to Google and just making it so maybe you don't have to)
Stomp XL is dang near perfect. If only I could send it in to have a CPU upgrade.
We will always have stomps but more could be done I think to help showmanship.
hello john, i have a question. on what db you usually have when making a guitar preset? is it 12 db? or 9? thankyou
Luckily my Variax hasn't gone caput! James Tyler JTV59.....
Next helix have to be boss gt 1000 size😊i will buy same day.
All for £400 😅😅 asking too much..??
line 6 Replicant?
To me a better HELIX would be smaller and have more DSP : that's IT! I don't think capture is the future of digital guitar products. I've had my HELIX for 8 years now, and it's the best piece of music gear I ever bought.
I can't find a genre my HELIX couldn't handle.
I play metal, hard rock, rock and blues, and have my preferred amps, cabs and effects, but even if I were to play jazz or whatever, I'm 100% I could get a great tone for that particular genre.
My favorite blocks :

Same here! Even used it for Bass in a Hardrock-Band and then for Acoustic Guitar on another day. It handled everything just great!
I have a feeling we'll get more updates.
I wouldn't be surprised if they kept updating helix even after releasing something new. They've built such a huge product line off of it I can't imagine them just abandoning the whole hx line.
@dimerocks123 absolutely, the hx stomp is an all time best seller beating every modeler out there in terms of sales for beginners and professional players ,I believe that's the case partly due to the undying support for the helix with new firmware updates along the years. We might have slowed and decreased the amount of updates coming but the momentum hasn't stopped yet baby (;
Im sticking with the helix, I'm not upgrading anytime soon.
Who are these people complaining? Line 6 have been providing FREE updates for years. My goodness some people are ridiculously entitled.
Maybe you’d sell some merch if you actually advertised it. I honestly had no idea that you even had merch. Don’t be afraid to push it. Everybody else does. 👍🏻
