Thanks Hiran your company is doing great,I have visited many of your properties. Consistent is very important and that's there.keep up the good work 👏.
You'll be happy to hear that the Northern Province Tourism Bureau is introducing the low profile hotels concept. The challenge is to implement without political interference.
This is how we should promote Sri Lankan tourism, Hats off Mr. Corray!! sad our politicians are talking about bringing some exotic cultures to promote our tourism…
I remember Hiran from my days at St Joseph’s College. He also attended the same church as us - Fatima. I still remember his match winning innings against the Ben’s on the second day of an inter school encounter while the light was fading. College ground was packed that day. The year must have been 1981 or 82. Nirmalal Perera was the captain. It’s nice to recall fond memories.
What a remarkable personalities in the Sri Lankan Hospitality Industry. This was much needed step forward in the industry. Wish you luck to continue this and to interview many leaders in the Sri Lankan Hospitality.
Seriously. I mean seriously. Hv u tried Public bus to panadura to nuwara eliya. Worest nightmare ever. Do not use public transport for a vacation tour. Not recommended.
I respect Hiran’s views but for the question on lessons learn from ugly south is not, not to be greedy. There has to be proper planning controls and strict implementation policies. Of course not only in the South, everywhere in the island. Well, when Sri Lanka would get those….not even in the next millennium 🤔
Minimal consumption is the way forward but reduce the rates of your hotels, so Sri Lankans who visit the county can afford them and support the industry.
@@islander_kool_kat Yeah, recently at a Jetwing Hotel there were more staff than guests, if rates reduced people will visit,to keep the industry going.
agree with you on this.if they can offer affordable rates to locals it will be beneficial to both parties alike.its too hard to afford the expensive room rates even for people who earn a considerable income
you are correct Mr.Hiran. i can remember during the Light House Hotel construction you were staying in Triton Hotel( Heriton Ahungall) when i was working in the Engineering department as an officer.
Hats off for taking public transport. I am planning to do exactly that for long distance travel. If ppl like Hiran and also the politicians start using public transport it would improve for all of us.
Initiatives like this are really helpful in promoting tourism in the country at a time like this. She handles the interview in such a nice manner giving the resource person the freedom to express his ideas without any disturbances from the presenter which happens quite often in many interviews.Keep up the good work.all the very best guys.
Bus or train travel is cheap and hassle free if you are travelling far. You just sit and go. Taken a cab from the station to go to the place you go to.
Excellent interview as always Shenelle. I have lived and worked in Jaffna for over three years as a doctor and its one of the most unforgettable experiences I've had in my life thus far. Love the people, the food and the vibrant customs but there's certainly room for improvement in the tourism sector in that region.
a thought provoking interview, Good job Shanelle and thank you for presenting us this opportunity. Expecting more sessions like these. As for the Jetwing chain, way back Sri Lankan hospitality in hotel chains were so unique this is Im referring when we were kids and go on a trip with our parents, but at the moment we hotels being highly commercialized we hardly see that attitude in many of the hotels, but Jetwing is different they have managed to preserve what Sri Lanka is really good at, true "hospitality mindset". I have enjoyed all my stays at Jetwing chain. Jetwing Yala Vil Uyana Jetwing Blue Jie Jie
Nice to come cross your interview with Hiran I was enjoying the time on the Cricket Pitch with Hiran back some 40 years ago. Lovely to see Hiran doing well Greeting from London
Yes I agree with toilets facilities which is need to lift from scratch to standard norm in public aminities whether you travel on train or bus , second part you mentioned pA part needs to improve or distribute pamplets in English or other foreign languages about details of journey in
Recently we were at one of the jetwing hotels in Negombo , the sustainable initiatives the group has established and practiced are highly appreciative ,recycling waste to energy , no plastics bottles etc etc… wow..
Sustainable launch and approach steered by Jetwing as elucidated by Hiran in the interview has helped reaching out to the nook & corners of this paradise island ! Best wishes
He overseas the jetwing hotel chain very well. I have stayed in many of their properties when i visit Sri lanka Numerous times. ( Lagoon and beach) . These are the role models we need for Sri Lanka.
Hospitality of jetwin is bad for Local guests (sri lankan) I have visited lots of hotels in sri lanka. I stayed Jetwin Yala, Jetwin Nuwaraeliya. In both places, I experienced, when the foreign tourists are not there. The Buffet variety drops. In other well known hotel chains do not do such cheap things
Interesting feedback. I think to term it hospitality would be incorrect. as the food is not the only representation of it. we've noticed that hotel buffets in general have dropped in quality as the cost per room as reduced significantly since the pandemic. Buffets are usually created based on the number of packs the hotel is hosting hence. if you are unlucky to be at a hotel on a day it is empty you will most likely have a subpar buffet. saying that we have noticed many offering Ala carte when occupancy drops nevertheless something that should be better communicated to manage expectations.
I would disagree with that, I have been to numerous hotels in Sri Lanka and Jetwing has never disappointed me. Their quality of service and the food has always been top-notch. Maybe the buffet variety has dropped in the recent few months but we should understand that the country is going through a huge crisis and that affects the hotels as well. And since foreign arrivals are really fewer these days I guess having a huge variety of food may cause a lot of food to be wasted, and Jetwing tries their best to be sustainable as far as I have noticed. So I guess quality over quantity...
I also do not agree with this. Jetwing is very popular among Sri Lankans and foreigners for the service. Very homely feeling and super service. All the team members are bubbly and waiting to treat us from their bottom of the heart. Food is also amazing. And i love their sustainability initiatives. ❤❤❤
I have to disagree with this. I've been to multiple jetwing properties (Vil Uyana, Beach and Blue) and they've always been so hospitable and welcoming.
I do not agree. I have stayed in multiple Jetwing properties, multiple times and have enjoyed Sri Lankan hospitality at it's best! Jetwing has always delivered the "best" to their guests despite all challenges businesses are facing currently due to COVID, economic crisis, etc.
Thank you Hiran! What Jetwing has done for Jaffna is incredible and highly appreciated!
This is exactly the kind of content we need. Great job
Thanks a lot!
Sri Lanka must be the most beautiful country left on the face of the Earth, along with India next.
I really like Jetwing hospitality.Their service quality is unique.
I met him and the family at Jetwin Jaffna and they are really humble people.

Exactly. Currently for a local to stay in one of these hotels it will cost them over Rs65000 on a HB rate .
