I've had mine running for 5+ years, changed PSU to a pico and flashed custom bios. I'm running OMV, doubt I'll ever upgrade at this point, does everything I need of it.
Thanks for making this video, i needed to see how it come apart to install a USB 3.0 card for backups to my external HDDs. I just picked up a used N40L for $150 AUD ($95 USD) and have set it up as a NAS for Windows backups, All my media served through Serviio, Torrent box and an Assetto Corsa server as well. A pretty capable little box for what it is.
I have a 64GB SSD running freenas where's for 1tb drives and it's mainly a nas storage box and torrent seedbox. I am experimenting with using it as a steam installation location and it does work well for that with the testing I have done so far.
also my lan connector is not working on this board can i usb slot to connect to may small network at home via switch. hp prolient microserver n40l gen7
so i would say check the bios and make sure its not turned off. also you can add a pcie card to handle the ethernet. you can also use a usb to ethernet adapter but they can be slow and flakey

I found a used one of these on ebay for about $80. I added a SSD for the OS (CentOS core) and a couple of 4TB drives. It makes a decent Plex server.

2022 - Helpful video as I just took my virgin microserver unused off the top of the cupboard.
I like your teardown videos! Keep them coming.
+manny fluffy thank you very much
Thank you, nice to find someone showing the disassembly, HP's findable manual is a bad joke.
Notes for future reference: The SATA is 2.0 (not 3.0), so only 3gbs rather than 6gbs. The PCIe is 2.0 (not 3.0), so half the bandwidth of 3.0.
Also note: The system does not include an operating system.
hi, like your video was cool one, if you know which one is for the cd rom connecting point on this board, kind regards
the only place for the cd rom to connect to is the black sata port.

how did you disconnect the SAS connector?
If I remember correctly there is just a paddle that you push in on the connector itself that will unlock it.
I wonder if this can handle an ITX motherboard.
I mean that isn't much bigger than a itx. I'm not sure if this uses standard motherboard mounting or if it's a custom spacing and stuff.
hi man like your viedo but if you could tell me how to configure raid 1 on the hp prolient microserver n40l gen7, regards
There is a myriad of things you need to do but here is a link for you.
