UA-camrs, this is STILL being used as my home media streaming device. Openelec [Kodi in Linux] migrated to Libreelec 2 years ago. 8TBs over four standard HDDs. Can watch 1080p in h265 with no problem thanks to the low profile video card I put in. It's wired in to my router so I can use WOL. I'm upgrading to something else next year so I can watch 4K natively on the device. This thing runs like a champ and I recommend these after it for NAS.
Thanks for the great video man! If I hadn't set myself up a couple of NAS machines using older gaming and editing computers using freeNAS as the base then I probably would have invested some money into a proper system like this.
I have four of them. You can do RAID-5 or RAID-Z1 or Z2 using ZFS under FreeBSD or FreeNAS. You can put up to 16 GB of RAM in them. They use the same modules as a Lenovo Thinkserver TS430. There's a hacked BIOS where you can get full speed out of the CD/DVD SATA port. The only thing I agree with you in this video is having redundant backups. You've grossly underestimated the capabilities of these machines.
This definitely seems like an awesome future upgrade when I'm moved into my house and can do full wired setup, I'm sick of my wireless for the majority of my systems in this apt.... :/
Thanks. I can't connect my own to screen because the VGA port has been removed. Any idea what type of VGA port I should be searching to buy or other ways of connecting it to a monitor.
I suggest u hit a dollar store or walmart grab some velcro. I been use velcro since ssds released on freinds older towers didnt have space. Looks neater and u know it stays put. As i stated just a suggestion.
I can say that there's no noise at all ;) I have this server with WD Red HDD and the only chance you can guess it's on and working is nice illuminating HP logo in front :)
It seems like an OK machine (running $400 on NewEgg now).. but I just don't care for any of the "off the shelf" NAS solutions, and greatly prefer to build my own. They're easier to upgrade if you want, easier to get parts for if something does break, etc. Still looks like a nice machine, etc.
am i the only one wanting oem companies to just sell their chassis as a standalone?i really like how some oem cases are made and the look aint that bad too! they are simple and professional looking
I have successfully used 3TB drives myself, reds, greens, and blacks. I have been told that with a modified BIOS, you can use the "newer" 4,5,& 6TB drives. But if one of those goes bad.... ouch!

You did a great job !!
1-Is the RAID via software?
2- Do you prefer Windows Home Server or FreeNAS ?
dude the SSD in the top is ingenious!
Thanks!

Purchased a raid card for mine to run raid 5 works great!
does this card support patrol read?
I can’t find the link to the unboxing you promised
Woah looks a shit ton like the mini cube from cubitek
Seems a cool server solution. How high is the noise level compared with an Atom DC2700 with an 2.5" HD? I can imagine it's higher.

Is this device still usfull in 2021?
I've been thinking of geting a nas and was offered this for 75$. Ok price? Should I get something newer?
Depends, what are you going to use it for?
If it's just a small home NAS go for it!
I've recently got mine for only 20$ and it has been great so far.
I would love to use this mini server as an Untangle box, has anyone ever heard of it being used that way?
Is the N54L still viable today at £40? Maybe like suggested below with Open NAS?
Been running mine for years with freenas then true nas -if you can get the it at £40 it's a steal

This machine support raid 5 with TrueNas
Does the Mobo support SAS drives?
If you are talking about SAS drives with different connectors, then not without an adapter.
What kind of power consumption levels are you seeing on idle and load?
Don't know sorry.
Does this allow you to add external hdd via the usb port and share it to the network?
Yes
Any issues with the 3tb reds as the manual says its a max of 8tb 4x2tb and your on 2x2 - 2x3

Hardware or software raid?
Can i Change the cpu later and add a GPU and game with this??
***** No
does it warn you when one hdd in a raid 1 fails?
nope there is raidexpert utility to install and check by browser but any mail config seems to work
~300 bucks before drives for a server isn't bad. But how many cores just to serve files lol, yea two is about enough.
can we install teamspeak server on ?
"pitchers"?
Then whait 10 years and DVDs are crap!!
Una cachanga
first :) hehehe thats a first for me
