    I slightly disagree: People would have changed their bad situation if they saw an option that is better. In the middle ages, a peasant could dislike their situation a whole lot, but he would really have to suffer a lot before he saw his few alternatives (which were all criminal at the time). Depression can be similar, since people sometimes are unable to see how any improvement could take place...

      Yes I agree with you. While I think Gatsu makes good points for certain unhealthy mindsets (e.g. seeing one as looser) or habits (e.g. drinking, smoking), this does not apply to serious mental illness. Like if you have severe depression and are fighting to off yourself everyday, this is not a mindset issue. Likewise I had a friend, who had such severe Agoraphobia and panic attacks that he did not go out anymore, and did not see other people for months. He is better now but only after years of medication, therapy etc. Same goes for stuff like >10 years Heroin addiction. But still an important message in the video :)

    I am currently detoxing from the internet after being mad about the changing landscape, bullshit drama, and fixation of negativity.
    In truth, I was hating myself for not doing a change to that by comitting to my goals.
    Even now, after having deleted social media and gone off-grid, I am using YT to wind down after having done work but with a sense of accomplishing some stuff throughout the day.
    You're right, Gattsu.
    It's not the substance abuse, cyclical bad habits or retreats.
    It's the inhibition you have in your mind that seeks a cheap escape, rather than overcoming that inhibition by working on yourself.
    First step is to leave the comfort zone, and have friends and/or family that support that climb out of the hole.

    There's a reason in substance abuse circles you'll hear people say "you need to hit *your* rock bottom, to get clean" or you'll here "you can't change for others until your willing to change for yourself" or something along those lines. This video kinda hits in those sayings. Deep down people either like where they are, but won't tell themselves. Or they're just comfortable enough to not change. Real change comes from within, when *you* are truly ready.

    The fetishization of one’s own self image is definitely a concept I’ve probably thought of, but never summed it up or understood as well until I watched this video. Definitely makes sense in the way we limit ourselves. Definitely true that if you really hated something you’d try to fix it, aside from cases where it’s out of your control, which unfortunately are the main things I struggle with personally. Great video btw 🙏 another banger

    It's not just bad because of the fetishization. At first self depreciative humor /fetishization of these sad things are just coping mechanisms, this whole thing creates the aesthetic where romanticisation of these degenrate behaviours becomes necessary so any young and impressionable guy that joins these communities with people like these they feel the need to deliberately do all this thing simply for the sake of fitting in. That's why I hate the anime fans who call themselves "men of culture " and idolise their degeneracy so much. Its not just cringe its actually detrimental for the society

    • @2DI0pictures
      @2DI0pictures 2 роки тому +29

      I normally don't see anything wrong with the anime meme "man of culture" per say, if your a normal person who just happens to engage in the culture & it doesn't interfere with preforming civic duties. Furries are a good example cuz despite their hobby, most of them still work normal jobs & live normal lives.
      It becomes problem when they make it their entire life to the point where it interferes with preforming their civic duties & forming relationships
      The way I judge these things is by applying the 3 Ds of abnormal psychology
      - Disfunction
      - Distress/Impairment
      - Deviance ( Though varies by culture & State laws)
      I talked about this in a video I made about "Live and let Live" & "letting people enjoy things"

    • @takashimizutani1808
      @takashimizutani1808 2 роки тому +60

      @@2DI0pictures "let people enjoy things" is a massive cope. I literally just explained why it is wrong but OK. It's not right because not everybody is rational and can just let people "like what they like" without it interfering with their lives. People are insecure and seek validation, you cannot deny that and we're talking especially about young kids here who will find out about anime watch it and try to interact more with the community. When they see just how normalised the idolising of degeneracy is in that space they will feel the need to replicate it and act accordingly to it in order to fit in. It is unhealthy I don't know how you cannot see that. Looking down on that unhealthy attitude of the community and discouraging it is a good thing

    • @2DI0pictures
      @2DI0pictures 2 роки тому +76

      @@takashimizutani1808
      1) "live and let live" is not a cope, it's a principle of life, about having tolerance for others, similar to the right to liberty & pursue their definition of happiness if they don't violate the rights of others. We are not responsible for others happiness but our own
      2) I agree that online community's can be bad for young impressionable teens, but it's the parents job to monitor their behavior (the internet is not a babysitter)
      3)A hobby only becomes "unhealthy" when the it takes over a persons life to a point where civic duties are unable to fulfilled, like I said with furries despite their hobby most are still regular people who live normal lives
      For a hobby to be "unhealthy" it has to violate the 3Ds of abnormal psychology (a way of defining disorders)
      - Dysfunction: breakdown in cognition, emotion, & behavior to a point where daily tasks are difficult to do
      -Distress/Impairment : cause physicals or psychological distress to the individual or others
      -Deviance: Consistently Breaking the law
      In other words if they are unable to live a normal life, it's a problem but for the most part many of these people still live pretty mundane lives.

    I do agree that if there is an aspect of your life that you absolutely hate you will most likely make the change, but I think there are some scenarios were that aspect of your life can be both something you enjoy and hate at the same time. For example, some people genuinely enjoy being by themselves, but at the same time humans are social creatures and most people long for social interaction at some point despite the fact that they do enjoy their alone time. I think some parts of people aren't so black and white (good and bad), and simply just changing that part of them isn't always so simple.

The worst one by far to me is the people that have the mental image of hating themselves, for some reason they love the idea of hating themselves and use their own problem, that they're aware of being problems, and use that as fuel for the image of them hating themselves

    thanks for this video gattsu, it reminded me of when i used to think that i was depressed because of all the sad boys aesthetic in 2016 or so. i faked being sad all the time just to look interesting but it just made a pain in the ass to deal with. u can use the same logic but in reverse, if you fetichize being a god among men and having a confidence so big that it borders arrogance, do it.
    Also listen to Yeezus by Kanye West, there is a song literally called “i am a god”, on which was my motto while i transitioned from a beta fakeass sad bart simpson to a yeezuspilled confident jock

    Yes, this. Especially about the job thing, a lot of my friends and all of my classmates always complained about their jobs and life in general, but they live great lives with great jobs, they would complain about a 6 hour shift being "long" or boring or some shit, but then they can't or couldn't understand why I loved mine even though my job is harder and I put in way more hours and get way less free stuff from my parents, they'd complain about doing a 4 hour shift on a school day or a 7 hour on a weekend then I would stand there after just finishing 2 18 hour shifts within 48 hours on the weekends and be fcking happy, literally only getting free food from my parents and not a free car or drivers license (which costs $2-3000 dollars here) and be happy, my job would require me to stand outside in the rain in negative degrees for hours or inside a boiling hot container in +30 degrees and I love it, they would be inside a really comfortable grocery store always at a perfect temperature with great working conditions and scan groceries or stack stock for a few hours and they had the audacity to complain like they were slaves or something.
    I've now come to realize that it's just the culture today to complain about your job, which I think is really sad, my dad loves working, the guys at my job loves working, and I love working, so I couldn't really understand it until I started asking them about it, turns out most of the time they don't know why they don't like it, they just complain because that's how they were taught or because "everyone else does it" and I would call them out for it.
    People, stop complaining if you objectively have a good life or a good job, it could always be worse and complaining just leads to you hating it

      One of the few sad songs I have listened to is Bris by Kaizers Orchestra, not because I feel like being sad, but because of how simple and effective the storytelling conveys of a soldier having hit rock bottom and the play on words where Bris can mean both the breeze of a cold wind and the buzz alcohol gives you.
      Sometimes I wish more people knew Norwegian, Kaizer is so good in the sheer variety, quality and at times the insanity of their music on top of nailing storytelling through music.

    the self-perception plays a huge role and people need to capitalize on it to change who they are. I used to not get any exercise and couldn't get anywhere since I only had my drivers permit, and I solved both of those problems by taking up biking. I hyped up cyclists and then slowly morphed myself into that mold. now I can take myself where I need to go, get great exercise as well as fresh air and sun, not have to deal with traffic, pay $20 for repairs, never pay for parking or gas, pay less on insurance cause I'm racking up less miles on my car, have a whole new hobby, and have a personal aesthetic based around something actually healthy, and the only downside is a comical hatred of "gas guzzlers" and people who ride stationary bikes at gyms.

    This is an interesting topic and relatable for me. I spent all my middle/high school years having no friends or gf, never talking or putting effort into school, just constantly being on the internet on sites like 4chan, reddit, youtube, and being a huge fan of bladee and cloud rap shit like that. A girl approached me and tried to give me her number early in 9th grade to "help me with homework" but I said No and she kept saying "are you sure??", "it doesn't have to be about that" and I kept saying No like 10 times while walking away. I also rejected other peoples attempts to talk to me or be my friend. I guess I was kinda fetishizing and wanting to be like an aloof sigma loner, but I also just felt more comfortable being alone and not letting anyone get to know me and not having to deal with any relationships. I left that school halfway through 9th then I was in different online and home schooling until I graduated highschool with an exam at 16. I'm now 19 and all I do is work fulltime saving and investing all my money and I still have no friends never had a gf. I'm not happy but I don't care enough to try to get a social life and don't think it would even make me happier but I should've at least gave it a chance back then instead of completely shutting out everyone and refusing to not be a sigma loner anime protagonist

    This is pretty much true! And I really feel like this trap is a very intentional product of media. Music and television, movies. They create a very aesthetic world around these archetypes. And when you identify with some of the pains behind the people on tv/movies/music/social media who portray these archetypes, it’s like you make it apart of your identity to cope. But it’s a bad coping mechanism

    I used to spend my life sleeping through the day and playing World of Warcraft throughout the night and getting some Uber Eats pizza at like 12:00am. I was a complete hermit. I would never go outside, except for when I went to work to support my shitty lifestyle.
    About a year later, I'm in my own apartment, sold my gaming PC and going out more than ever before. I used to think I was just depressed and my lifestyle was some weird way of punishing myself. Weridest thing is, I sometimes think about my life back then and I miss it. Like, I was pretty close to getting a new gaming PC and moving out, just so I can live that lifestyle again.
    Everything you said on this video deeply resonated with me.

    I'm probably not in the age nor gender bracket of your usual audience but I loved this video so much because of how honest ans straighg forward it was. I was in a similar position, I was depressed for a long time but i also fetishized it. I loved being the sad girl that shit posts online, I made up this whole manic pixie damaged dream girl persona that's introverted and hates people for myself and it didn't lead me anywhere i actually want to go. I drank my sorrows away smoked my mind away and just wallowed in that pit of despair. I also almost gave myself an eating disorder I Thankfully, there was this part of me that didn't wanna waste my life and I managed to actually pull a master's off and work and get by and actually grow up and realize that (as long as it is possible) you can get better if you want to get better. You Don't have to make the greatest improvements right away but you gotta start somewhere.
    Keep up the good work, many young boys need this

    am i the only one who used to smoke weed for self harm? every experience i had with it was bad, my traumas were reminded and realized fully. it made me very depressed to be myself, but at the same time i had a constant flow of good feelings from weed going through me. and because it was the only thing that made me so happy, i think i kept turning back to it because i was addicted. this really messed me up because before i started smoking weed i was actually pretty content with myself, i did suffer from depression and anxiety but not to the extent i do now. its been a few years since i smoked it, and it still feels like this slight negative feeling doesnt leave the present.

This started when I started reading through berserk and the main character is a fucking horrible person, but he always tries to do better and over the series he makes a lot of progress. I've made a lot of progress too because I was inspired by what I was reading to make myself better by working out daily and making more friends with people and its going really good.

    Hell yeah, Gattsu down with the AxCx.
    I am too old to be watching this channel. This is good advice for young men. I really recommend curbing drinking, having crazy party stories is lame af when you are older. It didn't enhance my life. Always be doing something worthwhile. Do not waste your time. "Youth is wasted on the young" is true; take advantage of it. Don't be the guy that pulls his head out of his butt at 30 - that's 10 years wasted. Don't put off things until tomorrow.
    It is also lame when you buy a house later in life and think "man, I must have spent at least $10k on weed". It would be more advantageous to simply have that $10k or do something with it that is tangible.
