      Welcome! Astrophotography can be awesome, but it can also be quite the money pit lol. See if the used market in your area is any good before running out and getting anything new. There can be some amazing deals used!

    On March 23rd 2024 the rings of Saturn will seem to disappear from our view from earth. I’m looking forward to scoping that event.

    Great video, plan to image Saturn with my 6SE tonight from the UK. My first attempt blurry Saturn images from last year with my 127SLT were terrible, hoping for better this year!

    Very informative, thank you. Clarifying question for you. Is the image at 5:52 what you'd see if you are looking at the computer monitor before the processing? Similar to what you'd see just looking through the eye piece but larger?

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  8 місяців тому

      Thanks! That's the live-view that the camera was seeing, so the raw data. Just like what you'd see through the eyepiece, but blown up yes.

      Thanks! Just make sure you check the used market in your area before going for anything new-new. Also an 8se would outperform purely out of aperture.

      @@kylemccaslin in my opinion the only flaw about the nexstar 6 and 8se is the fact that the focal length is a bit too much considering their aperture...also i probably won't be able to buy the 8se

      @@kylemccaslin nah i had a nexstar 130slt until it broke like 2 weeks ago. The 6se looks like a good option mainly because it has a similar mount to the slt so i already know how use it, and the locating/tracking of the sky is very useful

    Great video, I seen that you’ve used the 130 slt a while back and I have a question about it if you still remember, I just got the canon 450d which coincidentally you had the same one I belive, my question is did you *have* to mod the telescope in order to not get blurry images? I’ve also heard people say they need a Barlow lense to zoom, how do I add one to the t adapter if you remember? Thanks and very inspiring photos of Saturn 🪐

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  9 місяців тому +1

      I needed to mod the scope to get Prime Focus for DSOs. This shouldn't be necessary if you are only going for Planetary/Lunar though.
      Adding a Barlow into the mix will increase the zoom, yes! I tend to use Two 2x Barlows when I am imaging the planets. The two 2x give a total 4x increase to the native focal length which tends to be around the optical limit of each scope. In order to use a barlow, you'd screw one into your T-Ring and then just slot that into the 1.25" barrel as you would an eyepiece.

    Does the telescope pack nicely for air travel when you go to different spots to do your work?

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  6 місяців тому

      I haven't taken my scope(s) on an airplane before. I've only ever driven to places. I do think the 6se fits nicely into the carrying case, but can't attest to that kind of travel.

    On the end of your telescope. What type of eyepiece is that connected to your laptop.

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  Місяць тому

      It's a ZWO ASI 678MC. It's a camera, not actually an eyepiece. Though I am using it it combination with two Barlows to increase the magnification.

    Hey Kyle I have a question. I just recently bought the 130slt and I'm planning on modding it using Astro patios tutorial. So will that ruin the telecope for visual purposes?

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  9 місяців тому +1

      It won't ruin it for visual with the included eyepieces. I can't confirm with others since I haven't tried others though. The asterisk/caveat to this is that you will be at the outer limit of your focusser when you are using the eyepieces. If I recall correctly, one of the eyepieces only worked when ~90% inserted instead of the normal 100% insertion that you probably don't think twice about.

    I have a question, how do you get perfect focus

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  6 місяців тому

      A bit of it is just practice.
      But, generally you want to look for things that are difficult to resolve without a good focus. These can be unique storms or moons for Jupiter, the Cassini Division for Saturn, the Polar Caps for Mars, or just generally the sharpness of the planet's edge.
      This can get difficult though in bad seeing conditions though since a shimmery effect over the planet may prevent you from really seeing how good your focus actually is in that moment. It's good to focus in really slowly when you think your near a sharp focus.
      Maybe that helps? Hopefully?

    What camera did you use? I just got the 6se

    • @kylemccaslin
      @kylemccaslin  5 місяців тому

      This was with a ZWO ASI 678MC. I like the ZWO cameras that I've owned and can attest to their quality. There are some cheap options through SvBony, but I don't have any personal experience with those.
