The mark 23 was built to be able to take accurate head shots at upwards of 100 meters with the LAM module. It had to be able to run and run and run. 12+1 rounds of 45 ACP in something 35% more accurate more than makes up for 3 less rounds. HK mark 23 would be my go to war option if I could only have 1 pistol.
I bought this as a gift for myself this past Christmas...you know when you buy something expensive and you feel guilty? Naw! Didn't feel not one ounce of guilt lol :)
Heh, if i move to texas or a country with a minimal gun control im also sure to get one,and yeah maybe gonna have to..... Be hungry for a few times to save up on it.
Very nice footage at 5:06. You can see the multistage buffer system at work: 1. Slide and barrel start to move, the guide rod stays in place (main recoil spring is compressed). 2. Barrel hits the guide rod at the inner cam and the rod moves back (the strong but small secondary spring is compressed now). 3. Secondary spring pushes the barrel and guide rod forward again. 4. Slide hits the guide rod at the bushing and the secondary spring gets compress one more time (so the rod moves back one more time) 5. Secondary spring makes the slide going forward (as the guide rod, too). 6. Main recoil spring makes the rest of barrel and slide going back into battery. This is the special system used in all full size USP pistols. Other guns like Glock 17 or Sig P226 don’t have such system, they have a simple one stage recoil system (the guide rod stays in the same place all the time).
“Harasho...good! You found a SOCOM. That's a Special Operations Command pistol. It's a .45 caliber pistol with plenty of stopping power. It's also equipped with a LAM (Laser Aiming Module) for nighttime combat. If you find a SOCOM suppressor, you can equip that, too. That pistol was designed specifically for use by special forces, so I think it will be useful. Some people find it a little heavy and hard to use, but it shouldn't be a problem for you.”
Haven't seen this brought up. Initial purpose was for assassination, to put it bluntly. That's why it's in 45 acp. 45acp is naturally subsonic and hard hitting. Early models had a slide lock to eliminate slide noise
Actually no joke it’s awesome watching a forgotten weapons video and learning about a gun for 40 minutes, and then watch y’all shoot it a bunch. It’s like an SOP at this point to find y’all shooting whatever gun he talks about lol
+Imperator Phil You get what you pay for if you want a high quality weapon it cost ,less expensive weapons are generally less expensive for a reason , either they're mass produced or the quality control isn't as good as the higher end manufacturers. The FNX45 & USP45 is actually a better comparison and even though the USP is a very old design it's at least as good if not better. The Mark 23 is practically a one off in the # that H&K produces them .They where designed for a specific military contract with specific terms, conditions and parameters.
It kinda depends on what you want it for . No a civilian buyer isn't likely to be buying it for it's original intended purpose . But on the other hand an H&K collector may be buying it just because of that purpose and because it's a great gun that has very low production #'s so you know it'll hold it's value. If I wanted an H&K to carry around I'd carry one of the ones I own , the P30SK or P2000SK and if I need a duty weapon I'd carry my Sig 226 or my P2022 TB . But since I've been out of the service for 20yrs my tours of duty are long since over unless the Zombies come LOL.
No problem hey some of the companies that make higher end guns with very low #'s are great investments . Guns hold there value much better than most stocks are much less likely to tank on you and become worth less than you paid for them. If your careful you can and should use them . I think there even better than collector cars but that's my opinion it's probably about the same.
Kyle Hammer doubke check that. in the database it states Mark 23 HK if you watch the last scene where Del Toro's character executes the boss' family , that usp is too big to be a standard usp. even the USP tactical. look at the trigger guard size.
I absolutely love my Mark 23. You can definitely make a 1 hole group at 10 yards if you don't get in the way of the pistol. You're right Eric, if you miss, it's you! Very soft shooting too, due to the patented recoil reduction system. Chad, I believe you will change your mind, It'll grow on you. Although I don't have one yet, there is an extended magazine available through H&K parts as well as a Rail adapter that'll allow you to fit most Picatinny optics such as Surefires to it. Great review gentlemen!
This pistol is so legendary. It really is the do all be all pistol! People really over blow it’s size so far out of proportion, everyone exaggerates how big it is. It is exactly 20% larger than a Glock 17. It’s shorter than a 6” revolver that almost every cowboy carried back in the day. But, for some reason the Mark 23 is labeled as unwieldy and just too large. When really, It’s not too large at all.. it is accurate, effective, with all of its reliably extremeness.
The incredible Larry Vickers , and Ken Hackathorn aided HK in the design elements. I believe (if memory serves) that they were the main "operator" consultants for HK for this gun and the HK416.
Not in the Mk23, they helped develop the mk24, which was the HK45C tactical, a much smaller compact 45 with many of the same features scaled down and only 10+1 capacity with the tactical model magazines
You’d think a huge pistol with a big can on it would be sluggish and difficult to shoot with, guess not. Chad’s bewilderment at his own performance with it says it all.
Thanks for the vid. I'm running my TiRant 45 on mine. Yes, the gun makes me look good as far as accuracy is concerned. I can drill out a 2" hole at 15 yards on 1 magazine. FYI, buds will do $1680 shipped brand new with price match.
Do your homework. This HK MK23 in .45 ACP has a 5.87” barrel! Just run 200 grain or 185 grain .45 ammo and you will have PLENTY of accuracy, plenty of stopping power and still super quiet with a suppressor. NO need for 10mm with damn near a 6 inch barrel and 185 grain 45 ammo, come on man.
The SOCOM contract called for a separate decocker and safety. The Mark 23 is a pistol designed by a bunch of guys behind a desk for someone else to use. I agree with one poster on HKpro who said that the USP is what the Mark 23 should have been. I only own a Mark 23 however. Because of everything it was put through in testing it is one of the most amazing pistol on the planet to me. I don't want a USP. The Mark is capable of far more than I will ever use it for and will do all I need a pistol to do except conceal.
As a fellow Mk23 owner, how do some of you have such a hard time concealing it? I don't get it. It's easy. Sure smaller pistols are easier, but c'mon this ain't as bad as people make it.
I've had mine for 10+ years. from before the fnx. love it, it's one of those guns that let you believe you're a better shooter than you really are. never understood why they didn't try for a 10mm model.
Man if only H&K stuff didn't cost an arm and a leg. Also, isn't .45 naturally subsonic? Why does there need to be subsonic ammo for an already subsonic round?
Most subcompact inexpensive cars are naturally slow, doesn't mean you can't call them slow cars. A slow car is a slow car doesn't matter it's inherently slow or not.
I bought a MK23 years ago when the price at gun shows dipped to $1500. It's a great gun. I load and regularly shoot 45 super and had to up the recoil spring by 4 pounds only. I shoot 250 gr Gold Dots, XTP's and flat nose FMJ"s at 1050 fps, all are .45 LC bullets. The brass is Starline. Ejection with the extra spring poundage is the same as with regular ACP on the factory spring. Recoil feels average with Super and very mild with 230 ball. My do everything gun is the Glock 19 but the MK23 is my do everything in the apocalypse. It's length gives great sight radius for plates at 100 yards. I only wish I had an extra non threaded barrel.
Why are people complaining that the gun is too big and pricey 😂 the gun was made for operators that wear gloves and the controls need to be easily accessible. Wasn't made for the public. That's why they made the VP9 aka the people's pistols.
VP9 is a toy by comparison, striker-fired, not duty or service grade etc. The more streamline version, and direct descendant, of the mk23 would be a USP, or more recently the HK45T.
@@TheSwoopDog HK should have never made the damn VPglock or their line of ARs and then maybe people who shoot a lot of pistol could find these things more easily. I have a Mark 23 with the KAC suppressor and most of the USPs in 45 but trying to find one quickly for customers is usually a months long affair.
Lol, maybe flippers? I mean they are seals...but was just replying to Eric, if you want a .45 carbine, get a UMP, or go for a Vector and leave a perfectly good and superb pistol alone.
They are now. I would buy one if it was full auto but I don't see the point since it's semi auto. A 16" barrel doesn't make a .45 much better contrary to popular belief so it's really just a glorified pistol that you can't conceal. I'd rather have the Mark 23...
Hahaha. Chad comments........ 14:30; "can't see myself owning one". He stacks shots @ 40 yards. 15:10; "I may change my mind about wanting one of these". 16:20; "not 100% sold on it". Shoots it out to 70 yards. 21:00; "not going to own one SOON". 🤔 It took 6 minutes for Mark to decide he needs a Mark 23 in his life. 😂
I wanted one since I first played metal gear solid. when I got in to guns I cried cause I can never find one when I can afford. I never have the money when I find them cheaper.
Ralf Hartung he wanted to make the pistol shoot as quiet as he could with subsonic ammunition instead of a louder +P ammo, and I believe +P ammo is a bit more expensive per round🤷🏻♂️+P I’d be able to get for around 25$-30$ n subsonic would be around 20$ from what I’ve seen.
@@ChanWoo410 i see your point. Both the financial aspect as well as the noise aspect. But the SOCOM uses the 185 grain +P only for this gun. So i think it would be more authentic to use that ammo.
when I was a child, this was one of my favorite handguns, I used to play a lot of Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow, in both games the protagonist wielded a MK23 with a suppressor as his main sidearm. I finally got to hold one at a gun show many years ago, as a 13 year old kid? and even now(I am 19 now), the gun is GIANT. Still oozes cool though, glad to see you guys got your hands on one!
Absolutely. SFDM and SFLS were my childhood, always played on PSP. man those days...Gabe Logan was a total badass, wish I had been born early enough to play Omega Strain and such :/
I think H&K puts out a couple of dozen USP45s for every Mark23. So if you can live with a slightly shorter gun with slightly simpler controls, you can just grab that. Get the "Tactical" version and you have a threaded barrel and raised sights for a supressor.
Eightieth Raptor I just did a quick check on Gallery of guns. The MSRP is $2300 but I can pick it up at my local gun dealer for $1976. No doubt it is pricey. GOG has two available for sale if anyone is interested. You might find it cheaper at other Internet sites.
I bought one of these last year and have shot it a couple hundred times, but watching your video, makes me want to go shoot it now! the next range day it will be going with me,I also have the fde version of the fnx tactical and my can I use on it is a innovative arms shepherd, nice set up with a vortex venom rmr. keep the videos coming guys!!! mI would love to come down and shoot with you guys sometime.we are neighbors
I have been infatuated with this pistol from the moment I first saw one. Then I had the chance to shoot one. It was at a local range that had it to rent. It was at that very moment, I knew I needed it. I just found one the other day, and it's very tempting. The hard part is $2300
Buy used, I was able to score one last week for 1700. Much like an AK these guns are so insanely durable that parts breakage or wear is not a concern when shopping used. I doubt any human has ever "shot out" a Mark 23.
When i was a kid playing MGS on PS1, I became convinced that my first pistol would be the SOCOM. It wound up being a G30 (Gen 3). And I'll probably never carry anything else.
bought this gun new for 1550€ more than 10 years ago, bought 2 additional mags for 60€ a piece, now that you've seen the accuracy of that thing, let me tell you about the reliability : i've shot everything from El Cheapo military surplus to JHP+P, could you guess how many failure to fire, extract, or feed i've had ? none, nul, nada. see it this way, it's the accuracy of the finest tuned 1911 with the reliability of an AK-47. it's the type of gun you wanna have if you had to go through hell, cause it's very likely it could bring you back.
Expensive yes but look what people are paying for a custom Glock or S&W. Little slide and frame work and boom 2k. Also add somebody else's name to the slide for a extra cost.
Really the price isn't out of the question. People pay much more for "premium" 1911's and they don't hold a candle to the Mark 23. Some have marginally better accuracy but they are still jamomatics. The Mark 23 is the ultimate .45 semi-auto pistol. I can't imagine any other .45 surviving 30,000 + rounds of +P+ .45 ENTIRELY suppressed. The accuracy and reliability of this gun just isn't trumped.
jeff jonila that's the thing, the Mark 23 is very accurate, reliable, and durable. I don't know of another gun that combines all three things as good that's cheaper.
nah mate I'd rather not have everything registered. You still can have boltactions and 10-shot semi's, we have to do a 1-year Training and get a certificate just to own a .22.
Len M. I dont know the laws in your country. But even if our laws doesn't look that bad, the system is. You need to give a reason why you want to have a weapon. Also you have to shoot a certain amount of shots on the range to are allowed to have a gun. And the worst thing is, that everyone is afraid of people, having weapons. And the gouvernement will have a eye on you as soon you have a weapon.
What i really like about this gun is that it is a warriors weapon. It's not a self defense gun that you hope you'll never ever use. This is the gun that you would grab when you knew that you're gonna jump out of an airplane, land in the water, swim to a secret military base on an island and start a gunfight with a bunch of bad guys.
There's always that one guy in the comments section: "If it as in 10mm that'd be so cool" "If there was one in .357 mag that'd be so cool" "If they made one in 50bmg..."
One year later and i guess they went with 2011's. That Mk23 would have been bad-ass tho. But i guess a Mk23 is too tactical for Taran Butler. No shade to him tho.
As I understand, this weapon saw a lot of use during the Shadow Moses incident.
Ah, yes. Only men of culture know about that incident.
@yajo891 It's called the SOCOM in MGS1
This gun saved a lot of lives on that day.

Exactly. Poseurs need not apply💥✌️.
Metal Gear Solid memories. 😄 "Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAKKE!"
The Mk 23 makes me so happy.
"Harosho! Good Snake! You've found a MK23"
Nah, don't try to turn it into a carbine, that's what H&K UMP is for man.
Plastikdoom A Navy SEALs arms ARE stocks .
Lol, maybe flippers? I mean they are seals...but was just replying to Eric, if you want a .45 carbine, get a UMP, or go for a Vector and leave a perfectly good and superb pistol alone.
Plastikdoom Vectors have problems, UMPs are unavailable in the market.
I've been wating a long time for this video.
i've always wanted one... Id buy that before the agency arms guns
hey look, it's my daily conceal carry gun! I love my Mark 23.
I wanted one since I first played metal gear solid. when I got in to guns I cried cause I can never find one when I can afford. I never have the money when I find them cheaper.
the front-heaviness is to counter weight the recoil, thereby re-centering on target quicker and easier
Best 45 pistol ever made
you talk about the FXH 45
@@hansstrouf uh no. Not even close.
The mk23 is one of my top 3 dream pistols!
Didn't Rick from The Walking Dead run an HK23 with an osprey suppressor in the middle of season 5?
He sure did
Nothing better than a really accurate &a dependable firearm.
Why didn't you use the ammo it was constructed for? 185grain +P
Oh Hi Mark!
I've been eyeing one at my lgs for a few weeks. It's tagged at $1999. manager told me $1750 .
what do you think?
Don't know if you still want it, but they're still that price on Bud's Gun Shop xD
If you WANT IT BUY IT you only live once, and they can bury you with it lol
I hope you bought it!
You could get a usp
when I was a child, this was one of my favorite handguns, I used to play a lot of Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow, in both games the protagonist wielded a MK23 with a suppressor as his main sidearm.
I finally got to hold one at a gun show many years ago, as a 13 year old kid? and even now(I am 19 now), the gun is GIANT. Still oozes cool though, glad to see you guys got your hands on one!
Keith M Syphon Filter....oh my lord... memories.
Absolutely. SFDM and SFLS were my childhood, always played on PSP. man those days...Gabe Logan was a total badass, wish I had been born early enough to play Omega Strain and such :/
Now that you're old and moldy, did you ever buy one?
I remember when i first used this, it was in shadow moses
I read Iraqveteran and MARK 23:
I think i never clicked a video so fast before.
only downside of this gun is the price lol
I think H&K puts out a couple of dozen USP45s for every Mark23.
So if you can live with a slightly shorter gun with slightly simpler controls, you can just grab that.
Get the "Tactical" version and you have a threaded barrel and raised sights for a supressor.
Eightieth Raptor I just did a quick check on Gallery of guns. The MSRP is $2300 but I can pick it up at my local gun dealer for $1976. No doubt it is pricey. GOG has two available for sale if anyone is interested. You might find it cheaper at other Internet sites.
Max S. Poor man's Mk23
Eightieth Raptor for real. The price of any HK really...
Eightieth Raptor price is worth it when you think about what you're getting for 2k
Idk how i misses this video when it dropped.
thank you for really improving the quality of my bathroom break
nigga we all want hk to make "cooler" shi hopefully 1 day. but usp and mp5 so timeless they really cant fail
SNAKE
I bought one of these last year and have shot it a couple hundred times, but watching your video, makes me want to go shoot it now! the next range day it will be going with me,I also have the fde version of the fnx tactical and my can I use on it is a innovative arms shepherd, nice set up with a vortex venom rmr. keep the videos coming guys!!! mI would love to come down and shoot with you guys sometime.we are neighbors
Yes change your minds! Mark 23 master race
Without talking about concealed carry, I truly believe that the Mark 23 is the best handgun ever created by man
You can conceal it just fine.
I sold mine and have regretted every day of my life since..
Felt the same way about my 9mm usp. Years later I met a beautiful 45 usp and we've been together ever since
bought this gun new for 1550€ more than 10 years ago, bought 2 additional mags for 60€ a piece, now that you've seen the accuracy of that thing, let me tell you about the reliability :
i've shot everything from El Cheapo military surplus to JHP+P, could you guess how many failure to fire, extract, or feed i've had ? none, nul, nada.
see it this way, it's the accuracy of the finest tuned 1911 with the reliability of an AK-47. it's the type of gun you wanna have if you had to go through hell, cause it's very likely it could bring you back.
Exactly. This gun will reliably spit out Russian steel cases, without ever being cleaned, all the while with surgical accuracy.
you should shoot some 45 super thru it, that is what the gun was designed for. Also i think this pistol needs to go thru the MAC gauntlet, lol.
lol the first minute intro, omg, killed it.
Expensive yes but look what people are paying for a custom Glock or S&W. Little slide and frame work and boom 2k. Also add somebody else's name to the slide for a extra cost.
At 16:18 you see how accurate the MK23 is when it hits 2 targets 10 feet apart with one shot.
Last time it was on Buds Gun Shop it was $1823. That's pretty steep, but not too steep for me. RIP paycheck.
We have a local gun store here in Dallas that has been trying to sell theirs for 3 years now with the original armalite silencer
Joel Alonso Which shop? I’m close to the DFW area. It might be worth a trip.
Damn you. Now I want one! H&K better pay you a royalty!
The accuracy and reliability of this gun just isn't trumped.
roushspeedfreak1989 I bet a 4506 can take the abuse although it's not as accurate.
jeff jonila that's the thing, the Mark 23 is very accurate, reliable, and durable. I don't know of another gun that combines all three things as good that's cheaper.
MK23 and Custom 1911’s cannot be beat. My
favorite handguns for sure.
I can see enjoyably and the enjoyed appearance is better than the difficult access
I guess I can be proud to live in Germany 👍
sig sas yeah but can you own this gun there?
Ramon Sayans if you have a licence, yes. But still our weaponlaws are totally bullshit
sig sas Idk. That Slingshot guy did a vid and your laws aren't that bad. Some better then we have in 🇨🇦. And yes, be a proud 🇩🇪.
nah mate I'd rather not have everything registered.
I want one in 460 Rolland :) with the original laser.
such a beautiful handgun, huge fan of full size pistols
$1,800 for that gun?! Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
Steven Bush German/European prices for European craftsmanship. Can't complain.😏👌
FuriousJoeDK cathal like you girl :)
The French aerospace industry would like to have a word with you.
Steven Bush is not a gun is a HK. is like a Ferrari
lio357 I like the cheap Toyota Camry Glock. I can afford multiples of them
I think the answer to a carbine-ized, higher capacity Mk23 already existed in H&K's subgun lineup.
There's always that one guy in the comments section:
"If it as in 10mm that'd be so cool"
"If there was one in .357 mag that'd be so cool"
"If they made one in 50bmg..."
50bmg though....
HK's are phenomenal!
John Wick 3 should return to HK!
One year later and i guess they went with 2011's. That Mk23 would have been bad-ass tho. But i guess a Mk23 is too tactical for Taran Butler. No shade to him tho.
Thank you for your service but can you explain the 88-88 thing for me?
In the "under 200" club
MK 23 Carbine...EXCELLENT idea!
you guys should do a top 5 guns of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Yesss
AWESOME iv88 doing a video about a gun I really want to know more about! I'm happy
