you should do a video about probably all surfers problem: where to go surf with a surf partner who is a beginner, but you are a intermediate/advanced surfer. so both get their waves
Airport Left & right are for intermediate too! If you don't feel confortable with Ulu, you can go to Impossibles or Dreamland (actually works well at low tide)
Great video DAN :) As the owner & founder of "Empire Digest", thank you for the shoutout. Will keep you updated on stats and get back to you within the next few days for future BULK sponsoring 😀
Nice video, thanks! Was in Lombok last year and would definitely recommend going there in the wet season. In the dry season you just have 2-3 spots that are properly working, everywhere else is onshore with the trade winds. and the spots that work get really crowded in the dry season.
Thanks for the video! As a intermediate surfer from Brasil, I'm a little scared but really want to surf Uluwatu, I have never surf point/reef breaks! Do you have any local surfer guide recommendations?
Great video mate, really helpful for intimidate surfers looking for tips and spots in Indonesia. One thing I noticed though was that you didn't mention what times of the year you'd recommend those spots. Obviously swell dependent... But would be good to know for people that aren't familiar of our oceans in the southern hemisphere. I've been to Bali once in June, loved the weather and being Winter there was plenty of swell around but also did have smaller days for a bit of a break 😂
Hey mate, thank you and good point! I should mention that but I'd say for intermediates these spots would all be better during wet season (off-season)!! More mellow for the most part :)
I want to go to Bali from October - January. What can I expect as far as swell/weather goes? Not sure if this guide was specifically for the summer months or all year round.
Hi Dan, I found you in the sharkyiest places in the world. NSW Aus has excellent shark detection tagging, and bouys along the coast to detect to tagged sharks
Hey Dan, super helpful video! I’m planning to go to Indonesia mid May to mid June but can’t decide between Uluwatu or Lombok. I’d class myself as intermediate much like your description. Ive heard that Lombok gets a lot of wind in May/June so isnt the ideal surf conditions. What would you recommend?
Hi mate!! Thank you. Yeah the trade winds will blow onshore around mid morning in Lombok, but you can still get the morning offshores, or check out Pantai Mawi, which faces west, and is offshore all day!!
Hey Alex! Hmm, I'd say Kuta Lombok, as there are some super nice beaches there, and plenty of breaks, check out Pantai Mawi! Or Nusa Lembongan is a wicked place to hang out (and get super fun waves). Hope that helps!
Hi , Canguu and Uluwatu are places your partner will definitely enjoy . Lombok is ok but you will still need to hire a bike and travel 30 to 40 mi or more to get to the surf spots
Yooo the fact you just called me an intermediate surfer makes me feel sooo good😁 I can’t wait to get back on the water. Living in Canada is dope for snowboarding but I’m tryna explore something new
What's the best time of the year to plan a trip to Kuta Lombok? I'm an older surfer, so I'm not looking to party every night. Do you have a favorite surf camp in Kuta Lombok?
To only mention spots in Bali and Lombok is an insult to Indonesia. There are much more awesome spots than those in Bali, then don't put Indonesia in the title if no spots outside of Bali/Lombok are discussed
Maybe just keep your mouth closed . Why are you helping novices to show up and crowd line ups. We dont care about your wave knowledge or how good you surf. Ceal it dude.
Hey William! Thanks for your comment. I'm going to keep making these videos forever because I like to help people... It's nothing to do with my surfing. Plenty of waves to be had (and shared) around the world, especially outside of these well-known spots...
It's not crowd,it's insane.I have lived in Bali since 2000.Moved up to Singaraja now, occasionally go south for a surf, but much prefer the solitude of mountain bike riding now.
@@DanHarmon123 Great videos Dan, I've enjoyed watching them and reminiscing about how they were decades ago. In my last journey across Sumbawa, Lombok, Bali, Java and Sumatra in July I was really blown away by how the vibe in the water has descended into a shit fight all over the place. I pride myself in being a cruisy guy in the water, call other people into waves especially women and kids who seem to get the scraps. But this last surfari I even found myself getting slightly aggressive. There's too many shoulder hopping barrel dodging pussies who seem to think that everyone has a the same lack of balls as they do. In future I'll just wait for the rare days at my local beachbreaks when it's pumping, waves everywhere and all the tattoo covered, twin fin riding weaklings are watching from the sand. They're probably too afraid to cop the 20 waves on the head whilst attempting to paddle out the back. Hope you get some crackers!!!
really, but whats better? I live in Bali and every time I go surfing outside of Indo it's terrible :D. Like super aggressive lineups, crazy crowded and only OK waves (examples are Sri Lanka, Morocco, Portugal). I feel like here at least the locals are friendly and people have a great time surfing. In most other places the locals can be super territorial and you won't catch shit. Also even in Bali you can find a wave in any given day with 5-10 people out... same on the other islands. I think the more time you spent on an Island, the better you know where to you to avoid crowds and have a good time and Bali is still pretty sick...waves every day of the year and unlimited number of breaks
@@dominik169 you seriously have no idea, you're probably a shoulder hopping pansy too!! Do you ever take off deep? Or look inside to see the real surfers that aren't scared of the reef?

Off to Indonesia in May for a 2 week surf trip so excited gonna be helicopter
Thanks 🙏. I am planning to hit Lombok in August/September timeframe; start with a week long camp then leave a few weeks open.
Sick!!

thanks that video is exactly what I needed to hear!
Great one Dan always great info!
Great channel. Very informative . 14th of April for 60 days.......yeeeehaaaaa......will defo try Lombok. Sure you have a vid on it .
Thank you!! Sick, you’re gonna get heaps of waves :)

Awesome insight! 🤙
The beach break at Canggu is known as the sandbar.Locals call the right Pereranan

Thanks for the sponsor. Ill be using that.
Epic!! Hope it can help you travel and get more waves!! :)
Excellent advice thank you 🙏
No worries! Stoked you found it helpful :)
thanks for all the videos. hope to meet you one day
at Uluwatu, everyone bunches up at the Peak and Racetrack. So no hierarchy much. Better off at temples and its a proper lineup.
Intermediate surfers need to learn only one thing, and that is that a close-out is any wave they couldn't make! (lol)
Great video, thank you
Hi Dan, I found you in the sharkyiest places in the world.

Hey mate! Epic! Thanks for the info! I have heard that, also in Queensland, right??
Seriously you guys are scared of sharks in Oz? Especially NSW and Queensland? You've got no fuckn idea!
have you ever heard of western Australia? Or South Australia? Way more sharky
Or if you have a set go for a swim in dark water around Eden and Tathra, lol

Thanks for the tips mate. If you had 2 weeks in mid May to June, where would you base yourself? Kuta Lombok or Uluwatu?
Which location would you reccomend for an upper intermediate surfer who travels with a non-surfing partner? Thx
Hey Alex! Hmm, I'd say Kuta Lombok, as there are some super nice beaches there, and plenty of breaks, check out Pantai Mawi! Or Nusa Lembongan is a wicked place to hang out (and get super fun waves). Hope that helps!

we need a video on lagundri bay!

8 ft ulu on low tide. 👌🤙
Excelent video. Thanks!
Thank you :)
Nice video thanks. What is the right hander at 1.40
Bro, I'd consider a cutback a beginner manoeuvre. Intermediate is off the lip snaps. Advanced is throwing down airs.
Are there any surf camps for upper intermediate surfers In uluwatu or Lombok that anyone would recommend?
good vid, thanks
Thank you :)
In uluwatu right now. Great video man thanks
Epic mate!! Hope ya getting some fun waves... Thank you :)
Your villa alone makes me suspect youre somewhere in indo while filming this video 🤔
Hahah!! Yep, the classic Indo setting!!
Should do some more vlog style videos
Yes super keen to make some more RAW-type travel videos! Heading to Central America later this year, so stay tuned!! :)
Yew keen as
So good video love ❤️ it
Thank you :))
Does the visa on arival still good?
yeah
Im any info. For novice ?
Canggu old man's , I got sick from the water there recently though.
is Seminyak any good for intermediate ?
Hey Nate!! I haven't spent much time in Seminyak, but I think when it's small, it can be for sure!!
How's the internet in Kueta?
In Bali, you'll find decent internet basically everywhere! :)
@@DanHarmon123 Meant to say Koeta*(Lombok)! Love the vids, keep it up!
I think you miss other surf spots such as airport left and right/Toro-Toro. Airport middle and kuta reef also baby padang and balangan or dreamland 🫣
Epic
Thanks mate!!
Medewi is crazy busy, and you won't get a wave if you don't have an instructor
Yeah, it is super busy!! But I did find it easy to get waves, especially when it was bigger!

Please do share, Mentawai sounds awesome but as an intermediate it seems a little gnarly..
I am at the beginning of the video and it already looks good with no predominancy of bul$hit 👍
Thanks Sam :))
Your info is so wrong bro, u shouldn't do this if u don't know
Don't make it up

Those are known spots , it's no secret . If you're a good surfer , you know where to go and catch waves anywhere .
Only kooks make comments like dat. Spread happiness not negative energy.
Indo is a write off these days, too much euro trash dropping in on every wave lol
Hey mate! Yes, at a lot of these main spots, it is super busy, but there are so many spots you can go and surf by yourself if you really wanted to!!

Yeah, it's pretty busy!! Plenty of other waves to surf though, beyond these spots...!
brov ...are you in Bali right now ? please contact me , I was in Sri Lanka and I wanna go there soon.. I have a business proposal ..
Please send me a DM on Instagram for anything business related. But I'm over in Nicaragua at the moment!
