  • More than 360,000 people have already fled their homes in Ukraine since the beginning of Vladimir Putin's bloody invasion, according to the UN refugee agency, and more than 4.5 million more could follow if the fighting spreads.

    Every dictionary publication should notate "Ukraine" as an example next to the term "courage". This is a patriotism that transcends life itself. I'm immensely touched.

    • @Czadzikable
      @Czadzikable 2 роки тому +2

      Indeed! And you will find that same courage in most Eastern European countries, where people would also have the same strength of defiance and courage as the Ukrainians. These kinds of attitudes develop when you live with a constantly threatening, hostile giant at your doorstep... Familiar for me having grown up in Poland.
      Even though I have not personally lived through an invasion, the threat of Russia invading is so deeply embedded in any Eastern European's psyche, that while heartbreaking, the scenes of invasion and citizens mobilising to defend their country seem oddly familiar.
      I don't know if this is still the case now, but about 18 years ago in secondary schools in Poland, as part of citizenship lessons we were all taught things like how to respond to air raid sirens, as well as how to arm and throw grenades at tanks.
      ...it wasn't explicitly said that it's in the case of a Russian invasion... But it was just common knowledge even amongst us teenagers, that it was in case of a Russian invasion.
      Most Eastern Europeans either experienced the USSR oppression, or grew up with power-hungry Putin looming and imagining the possibility of an invasion - and are therefore mentally ready to fight the invaders.

    I'm from the US, I arrived in Ukraine, Kiev on the 23rd. I chose to go to UKR because I wanted to save my friends. We faced a lot of problems along the way, we saw some bombs going off in Kiev city (we were far away) and nearby, people desperately trying to get out of the country, intense firefights, civilian and military vehicles destroyed, military aircraft destroyed and on fire, some places abandoned and/or destroyed. We also saw some dead people, we helped some people who were injured, we took some with us. I was able to do these things because I had some contacts in the region and they helped me there. We cut several paths and arrived in Hungary on the 27th, and at the moment we are in Germany (my friends and I). The four people who came with us chose another path.
    We're better. While we were traveling, we recorded some bizarre stuff that deserves to be shared with the world, I'll probably post it on YT.

    One important aspect of whole this aggression is the realisation of EUROPE and entire west that you can't never trust dictatorial regimes like Russia and China. Hopefully they will invest more in military as a measure for self defense to prevent repeat of this catastrophy in the future

      Ukrainians refused to surrender and got shot allegedly. There’s also information that they actually surrendered. It’s a small island and there’s not many people.
      Though similar dialogue actually happened with a Russian ship who wanted fuel from a Georgian one. Russians tried to say “let’s not get all political” but that’s impossible at this point. You can find this video if you search for “Georgian ship”
