Having newly discovered Gigi de Lana, I’m a little embarrassed being a Filipino American. I’ve been traveling a lot and on the same playlists for a couple of years now, but since first hearing her a few days ago, I’ve been listening to her covers practically all day. This Unholy cover is my favorite. It’s absolutely mind blowing how her voice can go from crystal clean, Disney princess to the filthy sound she puts out in Unholy. This incredible voice gives me feels and not just one feel but all of them. I’m so grateful to have found this.
Gigi covers songs, AS DID SHIRLEY BASSEY, but neither of the two were typical lounge-singer, cover-artists. Both are amongst the greatest female vocalists ever, covering the best female vocalists and doing it even better! For THAT REASON Shirley Bassey was a legend in her own time, and IMO Gigi is a legend in her own time for the same reason. My parents told me when Bassey played the Copa she would sellout in ten minutes, faster than Sinatra, despite practically her whole set being covers.
