    I'm from Wales but I used to live here with my grandparents for almost a year and it's such a lovely place. After that I'd visit Fuengirola once a year until the pandemic hit and my grandparents decided to sell our apartment. I'd really love to go back there again! The people there were so kind!

    VERY NICE VIDEO! I have lived at the CdS for 14 years, when I come to Fuengirola 2002 it was a totally other place, my gosh, it was more a farm land but it had its charm also. I have been in Sweden for a couple of years now and are on my way back and that will be forever, never again Sweden. Hopefully I can get my old mother to follow, this is a very informative and easy to understand for my mother. When I moved down there for 20+ years ago she didn't thought it was asphalt on the streets. For some years ago I was living at Mallorca close to a year and then also Marbella for a years, but I haven't been in Fuengirola for at least 4-5 year, I have drive thrue on A7 but I was fed up of that town it was very dirty and in my opinion a shit place but after seen what happend to the town I am Impressed.
    Its so clean and fresh and that have done so much for the people its amazing, free busses and so on. I am Impressed. I couldn't see any graffiti any where no dirt on the streets,, In Sweden there is graffiti everywhere and dirt on the streets + 2 million Arabs. We have now 800.000 people in Sweden who cant read and write not even their own home language, close to 10% of the population. Better move as long its possible. Thank you for a very nice video! I've always found the term expats to be puzzling.
      Seems to be if it is caucasian in another's country, expats. If it's non-caucasian, it's immigrants?
      Even in Spain, "expats" will call Moroccans "immigrants" even if they are 2 or 30th generation Spaniards, while sitting on front line pub having their full English breakfast and complaining that there should be a Tesco nearby 😂 😂😂

    First time hearing of Fuengirola; it’s big, beautiful and modern. Where do they get their money: business, tech, farming or mostly tourism? Thank you for this video.

    • @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel
      @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel  24 дні тому +1

      Thanks for watching. It used to be a small fishing village. Around the 1960s they started building hotels and have not stopped. A lot of money comes from Tourism, it is a hotspot for Northern European tourists. It has a large Finnish population too. Google is making a large 650 000 000 investment into the Malaga region, so there will be some runoff from that, along with all the new tech employees heading to the area.

    Love the video, it's very informative sums up pretty much everything needed to know, specially Fibbers😂
    Few points i would like to make:
    Chiringuitos are a trick, make sure to go to good ones where you see people actually eating, they are always full in summer but you will see more drinking than eating in most, because the food is bad.
    The buses are free for now, this may change to be free for residents only.
    No idea why, in any of your videos you don't show Los Pacos, a lot of people living in central Fuengirola don't even know where it is, and there are some good food places and nice parks in the area.

    • @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel
      @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel  Рік тому

      Thank you. Yes the chiringuitos can be hot or miss, we really enjoyed La Mar Sala. That is a good idea to do a video on Los Pacos. I will look into making one. I haven't spent much time there myself.

    • @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel
      @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel  Рік тому

      Yes, they actually have a bigger mall (La Marina) and more shopping in Benidorm. They also have a El Corte Ingles outlet. It is sort of on the outskirts of the city in an area I believe is called Finestrat. It is north of the La Cala area.

    Thanks, another great video! I have now mixed feelings about Fuengirola and the region, after visiting it a couple of times. I love the endless promenade and the Miramar shopping centre, and I think that's the best they have there. However, I'm getting a bit tired of seeing this concrete jungle with high apartment blocks everywhere. I also mentioned to you, the typical food that they sell in stores like Mercadona is quite unhealthy, with lots of salt and preservatives in almost every product! Nothing against the Brits, but I found just too many there! I'm not at all attracted to their pub culture, karaoke bars, drinking, etc and I would rather avoid them.
    I was comparing the cost of living of Spain vs Greece. It seems the rent for a typical apartment in Spain is about 100% higher than in Greece?!? Have you thought about exploring Greece as another option to settle down? I don't think the weather or food is worst there, and probably there are much more benefits to being there than in Spain?

    • @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel
      @TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel  Рік тому +2

      Thanks. I did research Greece. It had a lot going for it, the weather, the food is very good. In the end Spain won out, but it easily could have been Greece. We just visited Spain a lot and really enjoyed it. That being said we have still not made a final decision on where we will be buying a house. We are planning some more trips to the Costa Blanca, Alicante, Torrevieja, Calpe. It's tough to find the perfect place without trying it out first. We said that we will try a few places over the first couple years before purchasing.

    • @SycAamore
      @SycAamore Рік тому

      @@TheEmptyMiddleSeatTravel That sounds like a nice plan! Yes, it's not easy finding the right place! I heard so many great things about Fuengirola, mostly from Brits here in the UK. But once I visited it, I kind of changed my opinion. It's nice, but not amazing. And it's not cheap...We are planning to work remotely from another country and leave the UK. I think Greece looks like a good choice right now. But like you, we're nowhere near to having decided where to buy our property. It will be very interesting if you make a video comparing Spain vs Greece as you seem to know both countries pretty well.

    Compared to how things were pre-Covid, how are the restaurants and shops doing? I would imagine the area got hit hard during the Covid lockdown. We were there, literally, right before they shut everything down for Covid. We will finally be going back in late April, 2024.

      Unfortunately some restaurants did not make it. The ones that did seem to be doing well and there are lots of new ones that are doing well also. The numbers of passengers coming through the Malaga airport have grown to surpass pre pandemic levels. The tourists are back in full force I imagine the bars and restaurants on the Costa del Sol are having a great summer.
