Shriver's sharp, satiric fiction has tackled complex, even terrifying, issues from health care to terrorism to school shootings. Her twelfth novel is a story of family, consumption, and ultimatums, centering on Pandora, who loves to cook; her husband, a compulsive exerciser who no longer eats as much as he used to; and Pandora's once-svelte, now obese, pianist brother, who comes to visit and won't leave.

Excellent writer - intelligent, witty, observant. She comes across as grounded and sensible as well. Have read two of her books; will read more.

I have read 'The Mandibles' twice, you should read it now, if you haven't already.
I believe it to be the most important book in these times of geopolitical upheaval.
'Hope for the best, prepare for the worst' is a phrase that is particularly relevant.

Lionel’s voice sounds older than she looks.

Has anyone noticed how obsessed the MSM is fixated on age, nearly every person identified by name has a number as a suffix placed after their names.
Is it just in case the readers might think that they were reading about another of the same name?
