  • Gunstock Finishing, Carving, and Checkering A to Z Part-9
    Carving does require some artistic skill, so not everyone will have the same results. In this video, Kurt shows you the tools and methods you will need to employ in order to carve your gunstock like a pro. Kurt will also show you how to stipple your background in order to achieve the perception of depth to the picture. This is the last video in this series for now... be sure to let us know if there's anything you want covered in greater depth and we can make additional tutorials as needed.
    If any of you want your gunstock completed by Kurt, feel free to contact him to make an inquiry. He'd be glad to hear from you!

      Eric Koechling Its a true statement. You got shows like "storage wars" "honey boo boo show" and "operation repo"? Are they kidding me! That's why I love UA-cam so much. Real people making REAL videos, not fake/reality shows LOL

    I took an Engraving class from one of a Handful of master Engravers left in the U.S.A. (Roger Sampson)
    I cannot describe to you how much respect I have for those That take up the art.
    It is unfathomable as to how much patience, & Meticulous Preperation it takes to engrave Even a simple Tree, or Flower.
    There is a reason these guys can command the prices they do.
    THIS Is one of the last true crafts & Forms of art in the Modern world. I thank you so very much for everything you've done for this Community of yours Rex, But stuff like this... Is why we subscribe. There is so much more to you, & Your channel than 90% of the good ones on youtube.
    Respectfully
    - Jacques Paul DeVange

    Excellent video. Can you tell me the type of oil you use or the name of it. Thanks Mike

    • @Thestripper1
      @Thestripper1 10 років тому

      It's "boiled linseed oil" I believe that he is using Cabela's but brand don't matter. A Word Of Caution - Linseed oil can self combust when left drying in a rag or brush especially if you have it mixed with turpentine. Dip your rags in water when you are done and dispose of them. Do not leave any rags lying around the shop when going for lunch!

      A "Long Pattern" Strad from 1690 to 1700 would be fine, but I would really like that Lady Blunt from 1721. I was thinking on drilling some holes in it and mounting some passive piezo pickups so I can run it through my Boss MT-2 to a Marshall Stack.

    What I love about carving "custom things" is that the customer don't see my fuck ups because I can "fix" them. I have yet to have a customer say wtf thats not what i was looking for (with exception to this one crazy ass bitch that wanted a deer carved into a plywood panel to go over her fireplace mantle and i asked does it matter on the stance or just the head etc and she said no. I carved an 8 point whitetail from a pic i had on my computer....apparently a prong horn is what she wated lol...after .45 mins in court I got paid 3x as much and my lawyer paid for lol) ) . Even with a few times I pointed out my fuck up the customer didnt see it as a fuck up, but i was ugh cant believe i did that. And even in some of my work with many fuck ups (in my eye) the customer gave me tips. Thats the beauty of custom work.
