I had a root canal performed and two years later, my gum was red as can be with a pus forming on it without any pain. Apparently, my root canal was infected as a result of the bacteria forming below the root of my tooth. I went to the endodontist to get it to get it treated. And in doing so, the endodontist drained the dental abscess. Then, he performed a bone graft by surgically lifting up my gums in order to insert bovine paste that was damaged by the root infection. I went 3.5 years without going to the dentist. Check up looked really good except, there was an absence. So i made a dentist appointment for two weeks before, a few days later my tooth felt sore, I though maybe from my grinding. It felt weird when I tapped my head. A day later it was fine. Later my cheek felt soar and I though it was a cancer sore as I get a lot of those. I kept trying to locate it. About a week later, I feel a bump. So I felt the bump on Thursday and had the appointment on Monday, 4 days later. Xray showed an infection and they scheduled a root canal for this thursday. X-ray showed no decay and I never really fell much pain throughout this time. In 2019 i had a silver fillimg replaced with a white one. Thay tooth always felt weird but never uncomfortable after the filling. They said aome people don't react well with the white fillings.
It's my understanding that sometimes a tooth abscess (infection) may not necessarily have pain, such as if the root has died, but it's still supposed to be required to either get a root canal or tooth extraction, the latter such as if the tooth can't be saved and/or the extraction may cost less money than the root canal and dental crown. On that note, however, the person will then apparently have a space between his or her teeth, so may need to save up for a dental bridge or other tooth replacement to help prevent bone loss, for instance.
I’ve had a Root canal done 3 years ago but a couple days ago I did have a dental abscess form. They drained it about 9 hours ago and it feels like it has grown back a bit. It’s quite purple with blotchy black parts too.
How long does the pain persist before u go to dentist and identify it as dental abscess? I went for deep cleaning 2 days ago. I had an extreme acute pain during the process. After it was relieved, I feel that a throbbing pain persists at the area underneath and has been extending to area towards jaw. I have some salty taste this morning. I have doubt if I am having dental abscess.

Or have the tooth extracted because in Australia root canal treatment costs $3000 AUD per tooth,my parents have had to get a tooth extraction done because they couldn't afford the root canal procedure. Last year I got a filling in one of my wisdom teeth which had a deep cavity under a previous filling & it was very close to the nerve so the 3 options hr gave me was 1 . Tooth extraction, 2. To drill out & fill the cavity, 3. A referral to an endodontist to have the root canal procedure carried out. I took option 2 which was to have the cavity filled but he said that if that pain that I was having in that side of my jaw didn't go away that option 1 will need to be carried out. It's just a wisdom tooth which I don't really need anyway & about $400 AUD for the X ray & filling was a lot cheaper than the root canal procedure !

I have had nine of these suckers done (I'm 77). Apparently my molars are just prone to 'clicking off early'. Frustrating to say the least. I have 7 implants that are a wonderful substitute for dead teeth! But if I don't brush it, there isn't any pain at all. Now if I move my tongue around to feel it, there isn't any pain at all... maybe a little discomfort. Is this a peridontal abscess 100%? The thing is there are very few pictures I found online that show it right between two bottom teeth... most of it is either above or below the teeth. Is this gingival abscess then? I use listerine mouthwash on it in the meantime. But do you need to see a dentist real soon for this or not? Also what would they do to it? Do you always have to either get the tooth remove or a root canal? Or could they drain it or deep clean it or give it antibiotics and that would fix it? about 14 years ago had a failed RC and later surgery was needed when my gum swelled.
I’m dealing with this situation right now …… sucks pray for me .
Same here it sucks I hate feeling numb
Same, and my dentist is all fully booked for this week. Im literally crying in pain. Can’t eat or sleep. My only friend is ibuprofen 😢
And I was told by him that it takes about six month for the tooth graft to heal. In the meantime, I was prescribed hydrocodone to relieve the pain. I've learned that at least 10% of all root canals are not going to be successful such as in my case.
Root canal suck period
This is the reason why I'm afraid to get a root canal. It can never be a hundred percent successful. And it's expensive!
I had a root canal treatment done 2 days ago. But I still have the dental abscess on my gum above. Im not sure if it should have went instantly or if it takes time to heal and time for the abscess to go away

Currently have one. Root canal next week!
Fckng root canal again! Got it drained but went back after a week.. no pain though
It’s quite purple with blotchy black parts too.
did you have swelling from the dental abscess and if so did it go down after the tooth was removed what ever you got done
I have had the same problem. Take my advice and insist the tooth is removed.

I'm having my abcesses drained on the 26th & finding out the day of my oral surgeon. I'm so tired of pain.
You know how much it'll cost?

Then the root canal will get infected over and over until the patient gives up and has the tooth extracted. Root canals have been heavily researched and proven to be dangerous to overall health.
It's quite unfortunate that some dentists won't tell you that or even give you an option of extraction. In most cases they're just after making money and not genuinely concerned about the long term effects and health

I have had nine of these suckers done (I'm 77). Apparently my molars are just prone to 'clicking off early'. Frustrating to say the least. I have 7 implants that are a wonderful substitute for dead teeth! Only one of my molars was actually accessed, the others were a case of the nerve just dying on its own and the deadness of the tooth was discovered because the tooth became porous and pieces sheared off or via annual X-rays....
how did teeth just die on its own??
@@amandaburleson2035 Unfortunately, I had that happen too. It was found on a routine xray. The dentist just said that sometimes the nerve in the tooth just dies. The tooth still needed a root canal, even though I didn't have pain from it.

THIS CAN BE VERY BAD! Left untreated, a periapical abscess can spread to other parts of your body and cause serious, life-threatening complications!
My brother had a lower infected tooth & let it go untreated for a long time. He's an alcoholic so everything is numb.
He ended up with a massive infection in his FACE... they had to ''go in' under his chin to drain the infection. A nurse had to come to his home everyday for a week to change the dressing & now has a huge scar/hole under his chin/jaw!
And he had to go to hospital every morning at 8am, for a week, to get an IV antibiotic drip!
I had a root canal 5 months ago. I was never really pain free in the 5 months after They kept saying that's "NORMAL". Now, 2 weeks ago a "BUMP with WHITE HEAD absess formed on my gum line next to root. Now on Amoxicillin for 7 days & they have to "retreat" the root canal, which means drilling out & filling again.
Same thing happened with me. Failed root canal 4 months later still hurt started to get infected and just got it extracted so I can get an implant. I’m pissed off at the dentist who did it because they said it looked normal but lingering pain a month after rct is not normal.

Just get all your teeth pulled as adults. Seriously won't have to put up with much if get a good fit. Hygiene is much easier.
And now my tooth was swollen...again.
Is tooth abscess & root resorption the same thing ?
Recently I have a pimple/cyst that is right in between 2 of my bottom teeth. It isn't the middle bottom teeth but a bit to the right. When I brush the area, it bleeds. Planning to also get deep cleaning done on my teeth as I haven't done in years. But what about this abscess if it one? Will dentist drain it first and then weeks later I can deep clean teeth later?
