These stables are missing the 3 most important things to give a horse a happy live: Freedom, Forage and Friends. I appreciate the care these horses are given, but it is simply not natural for a herd animal to be kept so confined. As others are asking, I would love to see stables that honor the freedom horses need.
So true, my horse stays with a little herd, at an old farm in an old wooden barn, can touch and sniff with his neighbors and after breakfast they go out in the field to fourage and play together and costs like nothing but are so happy!
Hear hear. The 'beautiful boys' are clearly more interested in aesthetics than horse happiness.
Agree. Horses who can graze and forage are less likely to have life threatening instances. I would bet that a well-rounded horse would enjoy a little train ride sometimes.

I was thinking the same thing and was going to say that. It is such a poor human concept to think horses are "safe" and better off in their stall. They don't understand how detrimental that is physically and mentally to a horse.
Lovely stable, but I did have to giggle when in their interview they were talking about having less horses so they could do everything themselves….but didn’t know what was behind one of the doors, in one of the cupboards, and gets his staff to lift the boxes as they are too heavy…. I’d love to see some of the hard working stable staff featured in some of these videos! Without whom, no doubt these yards would look very different!
Think they were referring to the training/riding and not that actual upkeep of the horses. I don’t see either of them mucking out or grooming but if they’ve got up to 20 to ride per day there wouldn’t be time.
Omg yes...he had no clue where stuff was! Probably hasn't set foot in the tack room before...😂 the staff saddles, the grooms brings the horse to him, when done the groom takes the horse and so the day goes...sad most of these high-end money barns the "trainers" have very limited interaction with the horses out of the ring.
Sorry Matt, I’m a great fan of Jesse, your horses and you (and a member of HorseworldTV), but when I see stables and people like this I hope Jesse keeps you grounded (“voeten in de klei”) and you find your happiness in slighter modest accommodations for your great horses and yourselfs. Happiness is not in what you own, but the smaller things in life. All the best from a Dutch fan, probably older than your parents.
I agree, this place is beautiful though doesn’t offer happiness in my opinion for myself or my animals. Sometimes too pretty isn’t real if you get my drift.

The more I see of wealth in the horse world the more I feel for the horses that are just thrown away. I fervently hope people that can afford it have it in their hearts to assist equine rescues.
The wealthy ones do a lot a of rescuing. Check out Georgina Bloomberg and Kaley Cuoco

Here’s a challenge ! Let’s see some stables that offer 24/7 turn out. Seems rare these days.
Beautiful pastures, so why are the horses all in their stalls?!!!!!! Turn them OUT!
My first pony lived out 24/7 until we bought a old railway carriage for a stable (very popular in the UK in the 80's 90's!) No lights used a car battery attached to a strip light...water was collected from the stream in the field! Those were happy days the horses never went without. New Zealand rugs...jute rugs!!! Wow I'm showing my age. Loved every single minute ❤❤❤

I can't believe how many people don't realize that this is a temporary show barn for when the horses are competing for a few months during the winter season in Wellington. This is not a year round facility. They travel to other states during the summer and fall and they also have other farms to send the horses to when they are not competing. Also, it is not safe to keep $1,000,000 show horses in turn out 24/7. SO many things can happen!
@@annahalko-angemi if you heard from the start, the sun was going down. they are in for the night or about to go out. it is sooo hot so it nicer in my in the cool than out.
I think it’s always the case this is a stunning looking place. But the fact he thought the turn out was good blew my mind. I echo what other people are saying beautiful place for people not for horses. I would rather see some mess around a yard but have decent sized fields and horses on actual decent turnout or 24/7 turn out.
I wouldn't even consider the smaller "turnout" pens turnout. It's like moving from an indoor stall to an outdoor stall. 😬 Very beautiful facility for humans, not horses.
@@krisillus5249 Yeah to me those would be starvation paddocks 😬😬. My guys are on 4 acres and to me that’s the bare minimum. It’s just sad to see all that money spent but the things the horses actually need is not there. I really believe horses should be allowed to be horses and turn out is vital to their well being. The fact that they are normalising a few hours out is so sad.
It wasn’t super clear but these horse shows only run for a few months every winter. They may have an other home barn with more space etc… Turn out at all during these horse shows is a real luxury, it’s some of the most expensive real estate in North America. Some spend the whole time there while others will only go for a week or 2.
@@linkridgeshelties7413 I hope that is true but still I think it’s a dangerous trend so show these beautiful barns that cost millions as a luxury. When the most basic thing horses need isn’t there. I would rather have a tiny barn with more land. It’s excess over welfare horses should be allowed to be horses. It’s beautiful don’t get me wrong but it’s not practical at all. I’m sure they are nice people but personally unless obviously there are health reasons. Horses getting out as much as possible is the biggest priority.
Are you guys familiar with horses in training or elite showing? They very rarely are on turnout, to avoid injury and also for stallions to not be in a herd with others and cause issues etc. Generally horses living like that are excersized often and on a walker everyday etc, they're not starving or missing the flexibility but I'd understand wanting the freedom.
I love in these videos when they are like "oh ya we have these paddocks so the horses can go outside, we think thats so important." and yet, not a single horse is out.

@@todiann27 Put a sun sheet on them, provide water and shade and they'll be fine. Much better than in a stall.

@@annahalko-angemi Usually the horses in Florida get turned out overnight or early early in the morning, but not in the middle of the day. Not only is it too hot, but the bugs are horrible. The horses end up stomping their feet and pacing at the gate actually wanting to go back in the barn.
Matt is so more down to earth than a lot of these people.
No wonder people like him, his integrity and kindness stands out.
When you have money you can have anything. The barn is beautiful and the horses are well taken care of. But I’m a country girl and prefer my horses to have big fields to graze in by day and a safe stall at night. This is to fancy for me.

@@cyndiebill6631what are these animals if not horses? They aren’t locked up all day. They get turned out, hand walked, ridden, etc. Literally a customized program to make them elite athletes… not pasture puffs.
So tired of seeing these high end barns that lack the facilities to give horses their 3 basics needs. All horses need as much turnout as possible in a herd setting (if they can’t always be out) and CONSTANT access to forage.

Wheres the turn out? Theres so much grass on the property but no fields? why cant the horses go out together and have friends? Do they have forage all day? How long are they stuck in stalls for? Barns like this are made for people not horses.
It's dangerous to turn out million dollar horses with other horses. In Florida, they typically go out over night or very early in the morning because it is too hot, too humid and too buggy in the middle of the day. This is also just a show barn for the horses that are competing. When they aren't competing, they go to another farm where they have pastures and tons of R&R.
@@orientalshorthairsquad okay so you're saying the horses wellbeing and mental health should suffer because they cost money? The horse has no perception of how 'expensive' they are. They are just suffering locked up in boxes all day with nothing to do.
Put yourself in their shoes, what would you do in the same 4 walls all day with minimal enrichment?

Beautiful horses, but I feel sorry for them. Even when I was showing my horses at the highest levels, they were allowed to be HORSES. They were allowed to graze and even my stallions had buddies that they could enjoy turn out with. I can’t imagine my horses living in a stall 24/7
I was wondering if maybe someday you could do a video on the difference between jumper, hunter and equitation? It would be very interesting to see the difference in horses, training, tack, shows and more!
It all looks beautiful but it feels like a crossbreed between a church and a funeral place .

WOW Matt.....The Hunter-Jumper facility in Wellington, FL. was exquisite. The owners were passionate about their whole operation and the horses were very content & quiet, not angry......This place is better than a 5 star hotel and for horses - not people. Thanks for the tour and God bless.....

I love these interview style videos! These places are absolutely gorgeous, just wish people would turn out their horses in open pastures together
They are top competition horses, not little pony club, adult rider horses. they can't risk getting injured or nips all over them.
@@sabrinajackson-rq5ej Except other top riders manage it... and horses are actually less likely to have a serious accident if they're out 24/7 and given everything they need for their welfare. This bubble-wrapping just leads to them needing more and more supplements and exercise equipment to simulate what they would just do for themselves naturally.

@matt, I would love to see you goto a western pleasure barn, a barrel racing barn, and a cutter barn 😂😂 heck, even some barns in different states (Louisiana) because Florida is like a completely different world compared to the rest of the states
It's not just the hunters I've been doing that for years I learned how to do that when I was in 4-H it makes it easier to clean your stall your only cleaning the middle area then you pull down your shavings from the side it's just a lot more efficient when you're putting shavings in the stalls
god the trunks with no wheels are giving me war flashbacks from working at a h/j barn a couple summers ago

The cupolas in Florida are usually functional. The heat rises and needs a place to dissipate and it lets in the breeze.

The banking isn't just for hunters. I'm from the UK , and I have used it for years for anything from Shetlands all the way up.

If im not mistaken the banking of shavings makes it easier to clean the stall. All the dropping roll down the hills to the center making it easier for the pooper scooper person! Nothing to do with the comfort of the horse but i guess it may be more comfortable?!
I think it’s a bit of both and preference.

Really nice roomy stalls and very generously wide breezeway. The windows are really nice for letting light into each stall. Huge tack rooms well organized. Very appealing stable and the owners are genuinely passionate about their life career.

Florida is a heavily Botoxed state - probably not quite at LA levels yet, but getting close.

We used to dream of stables like this when were were young as they were always fun to visit and then go back to what we had. Would I like to keep my horses there probably not because it would make me self-conscious but the type of showing and clientele these men deal with it is very fitting. Keep taking to places I could never afford 🤣
Hi Matt! I looove Wellington! I used to live close in West Palm Beach. I think these are amazing stables and the guys obviously care for their sport. It is lovely, but way too hot in summer for horses there. I hate riding in humid weather and sweating constantly. Unless you have lived it, you can’t understand.

Beautifully built facility, very visually impressive and luxurious. But not a "home" for horses. Felt very cold, impersonal, and not at all a place you'd go to feel comfortable, at home, a barn you'd just want to hang out at to enjoy being with your horses. I doubt the horses even want to be there. They are clearly focused primarily on using the horses to win competitions and sell their brand. The key was what he said in the office that the "success of my clients and owners are what's most important to me." No thanks. The number one priority should be the horses, their health and happiness. This guy seems to be very happy to be showing off how amazing their place looks on camera. You can tell by his inability to answer basic questions about the facility such as the size of the arena, what's behind doors, the "I don't lift the boxes, my staff does" and "two of my clients purchased him for me" statements, etc., that he shows up to ride a fully tacked up horse and leaves when he's done, with all the actual work being done by others. He never once talked about the horses personalities, his relationship with the horses, etc. It was totally about the look, how successful the horses are, how shiny things are, etc. Just overall very off putting. I wouldn't be surprised at all if these guys reached out to Matt and asked/begged to be featured. I'm so so so so so glad Matt and Jesse put the happiness and health of their horses above everything else. There's nothing wrong with having a beautiful barn, and Matt and Jesse's last home is proof of that! It was gorgeous! And I know their next place will be, too. But their place just felt like a home, a happy place for their family of horses, dogs, and them. It was welcoming, warm, and set up to give the horses the best life possible. All while being beautiful. So yeah, the Wellington barn and it's owner, huge no, big ick, sorry for the horses. Matt and Jesse's barn, life, approach to horses and success: Yes, absolutely, everyday, all day!!

I'm so proud of the equestrians in the comments who are asking for more turnout for horses in these luxury stables and for credit to be given to the staff than ensure the continued daily functioning of such high end places. Fancy and gorgeous means nothing if the horses aren't happy and getting the basic needs of their species met. (freedom, forage, friends). It is a beautiful facility, truly, but would love to see upgrades made to provide, at the very least, access to a minimum 12x18' outdoor run from some of the stalls.

Look in Ocala, FL. It is too hot near West Palm Beach. North Central FL is prettier with tall trees (shade) and hills!! Also, the World Equestrian Center is quite AMAZING and is there in Ocala!

@@EquineLiberties There is very little land in Wellington. This is for Winter Equestrian Festival. The horses live up north for most of the year.
Next year you should go to the Royal fair in Ontario, you just missed it!
Absolutely beautiful facility. The guys are definitely talented. After spending most of my adult life riding and showing dressage, what is most unfortunate is the stuffiness of some people. What connects us is our love for horses. None of us on this earth is better or worth more than another, so I don’t care for snobbish attitudes. It may have just come across wrong for me, but I didn’t love this one.
Am I the only 1 that doesn't like it at all, so clean and stiff,it's cleaner than my house 😅, I like it when there is hay every where on the floor and some horseshit as well and a lot of chickens running around making noise and dust and spiderwebs in the stables and horses running around in the paddock all day or on the grassfield 24 hours with lot of mud on there skin that needs brushing for long time before riding❤😊
This was lovely. I would like to more about cost to run the facility, volumes of food and hay per day and what do the clients pay. You mentioned children having lessons. Is this really only for the wealthy to enjoy?
Haha Uber wealthy. Like, top 1%. Winter circuit prob cost around $50k between board train rent show fees.

I'm from around the wealthy Chicago suburbs, and they winter in Wellington (or maybe the new Ocala as the old one was seen as not good enough) and depending upon how many horses you take for the 5-6 month season, and if you have a permanent southern barn base, you are looking at easily $500,000/5-6 months (few things included in the bill are: a home to stay in for 6 months or flying back and forth if you are in college, a golf cart, a car, boarding--even at a permanent southern barn base instead of boarding in tents in the show grounds or renting out of someone else's permanent winter base, training rides at home, show fees, class fees, grooms, braiding, training rides at "home" and at the show, lessons at home and at shows, clinics, chiropractors, massage therapist, acupuncturists, farriers, very expensive recovery modalities and equipment like a treadmill that also films with cold salt water for recovery and rehab, Theraplate, walkers, red light warming lamps, PEMF machines, all your apparel and equipment for yourself and the horse(s)...practice and show; and if you are doing dressage in addition to jumpers, equitation, and/or hunters, even more whole new sets of tack/equipment...plus you still need to pay the $36,000+ board up north that is empty and unused while you are in Wellington for the winter on top of your winter season costs. QUESTION for everyone. I’m super curious to know how North American stables compare to those in Europe. I’m from Canada and live in a city that has tons of horse facilities situated all around, and I have to say, the size of the paddocks I’m used to are about the same (if not smaller) then the ones shown in this luxury stable tour. I’ve competed in both the English and western world and visited quite a few competition barns throughout Canada and US, and the majority of competition barns have similar size turnout paddocks. Sadly, most horses are in their stalls for looooong hours and it’s always bothered me. Anyways, I am curious to know if this is the same across Europe. Would anyone be willing to share their insight and experience?
I'm from Texas so I can't speak for sure for Europe but it seems they're not big on turnout for show barns there either. I'm sure it's a "protecting the investment" type situation to try and avoid injuries, it seems the warmer the blood the bigger the vet bills lol so I can't blame them too much
At the moment things are changing in Europe. Horses are going in fields much more then 10 year ago. But mostly amateurs have their horses out, most of the professionals keep their horses in stables. Fields and paddocks are small in Europe, but are used a lot .
Can’t speak for Europe but in New Zealand it’s still uncommon to have horses stabled for the majority of the time. A lot of top jumpers still live out most of the time, at the lower levels having any undercover barn facility is considered fancy lol
I'm from Lithuania, it's the northen-ish baltic reagion of europe. There are like 3 "fancy" barns through out the whole country and the horses are ussually stalled (wich should be illgeal as the basic needs for horses are forage, freedom and friends 24/7, but not a lot of people care) the rest are either 24/7 turnout facilities, or out the whole day, in for the night.
Nice looking and clean. I have other questions that have nothing at all to do with the place or horses but I'm trying something new like not blurt out inappropriate questions etc. But one I can't help, why is the one guys face so shiny? Baby steps.;)

This is just for the horses that are competing at WEF. It isn't an all year home for the horses.

Not really. Seems to be more common in Europe. Wellington is very much the high end elite best of the best flashing money everywhere.
True in Florida but not everywhere, most barns outside the fancy hunter circle are normal lol
