Barker Technics, also known as Barker Technic Systems (BTS) was originally formed in the late 70's/early 80's by a gentleman known only to us as 'Baxter'. BTS was originally formed in conjunction with Senior Sergeant Roy Lock from the Victoria Police Instrument Development and Maintenance Section (IDMS); IDMS started by designing and producing the iconic sirens for Victoria Police that became known as Locktronic Systems Sirens, and later LTS. Whilst Roy and Baxter were on each other's good sides, they extended their range of audible warning systems, with BTS even making some of their own LTS siren variants. Sadly in the mid 80's, Roy and Baxter had a falling out and parted ways. Following this, Roy stuck with making LTS sirens, red light cameras, and speed measurement devices to name a few, whilst BTS moved towards speed measurement devices and developing more niche audible warning systems. I repair the old LTS (and BTS) sirens, and only just came across this video by chance; it's certainly interesting to see that BTS made E-Bells too. Great, video also. May I ask where you found the original diagrams from? They look like they are from old patents. I am always interested in expanding my knowledge of BTS and LTS. Cheers
Thanks! I found the diagram by going through a bunch of the rail operators documents that I could access publicly, that diagram is the only thing I’ve found at all.
Maybe one way you can get a Barker Technics e-bell is to wait until the Mont Albert level crossing gets removed. If your there on the day it gets removed, ask the LXRA people if you can have one of the bells. As long as the bells stay on the crossing until it’s removal. Also, great video too and greetings from the U.S.
I remember the riversdale crossing very well and in my early years I’m sure that the ped crossing had no alarms cause I remember hearing the bells on their own very well heard. then suddenly one day I heard alarms probably around 2005, 2006 I heard Alarms for the first time.
@@TazzieTransport Yup the Barkers there were replaced a few months ago with the newest E-Bells when they rebuilt the crossing as a part of the removal project!

1:57 Pedestrian yodel alarms so loud it makes the whole crossing sound British
Probably my 10th time watching this. So well put-together. Excellent video with extraordinary info/imagery I had never seen before. Thank you

those pedestrian alarms must be the same ones that the UK use for their level crossings
Yep! inside the ped xing boxes there's a Yodalarm which is what they use in the UK
Can't get anymore Australian than Barker Technics E Bells

Awesome research and information!

Sadly I'd liked the old Westinghouse gen 2 Bell and hammer better. I'm not to keen on the Baker ones that much.
