Ga Roti Recipe:
4 chicken legs
2 tsp kosher salt
2 tsp black pepper
4 garlic cloves roughly minced
2 tbsp unsalted butter
In a plate generously salt the chicken with kosher salt, minced garlic, and black pepper. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
When ready to cook, heat a pan with butter until melted. Add 2 chicken legs at a time and sear the skin just until golden brown. Finish off the rest and place on baking pan. Roast at 400 degrees or 15-20 minutes until juices run clear. Remove from oven and enjoy!
Tomato Fried Rice recipe:
4 cups day old white rice (jasmine or medium grain rice preferred)
2 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp maggi sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
In a medium frying pan, add olive oil and let it get hot. Next add cold day old rice and break it up with a wood spoon or spatula. Once it softens, add oyster sauce, ketchup, and maggi sauce. Mix until evenly distributed. Add to plate and serve.
Vietnamese Rice Plate: Serve chicken with a side of rice, fresh veggies (lettuce, tomato slices, cucumber slices, and pickled carrots & daikon).

I love this video so much! My parents went through very similar experiences - they immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in the 90s and my mom taught me everything I know about cooking! She doesn't use measurements either - it's always a pinch of this, a dash of that, or just a "add as much as you feel should be in the dish." I'm so glad she taught me how to cook traditional Chinese dishes so I can always have a taste of home when I'm homesick here at university!
Awh I loved watching this Dzung! I teared up a little too! My mother is also the person who has provided a strong foundation in my life! She immigrated to the US when she was 18 and had to endure a lot of struggles as well! I am very thankful for my mother and my family! ❤

my mom is my hero and strength.. she raised my sister and I on her own since I was 4 yrs old.. I am now 27 and happily married.. she always no matter what was there.. when I had cancer she was there 24/7 when I couldn't dress myself or anything she never once stop telling me I will make it through..

I am mexican and here we have what we call a "nana" which is like a combination between a babysitter and a second mom. My nana lived with us for seven years, and everyday after school she thought me how to cook. I still call her for some recipies and advice.

Becoming a mum is wonderful. Try and film or photograph as much of it as possible because your kids will LOVE looking back to this time with you. Big hug and don't worry. Giving birth is a new experience which will change you but only for the better :)

Beautiful story. I'm from Guam and have a lot of Vietnamese friends. Their parents came from Vietnam at the same time as your mom did but they ended up staying on our island. Your Mom is so precious! My Mother was awesome!!! She raised six educated and successful children on her own. We were her world. I think the majority Vietnamese Mom cook by taste not recipes. My Mom was the same.
It really makes me miss my mum so much! We are currently so far away from each other in different countries. Mum always gives us the best.
ohh I loved this video and your mom is so beautiful. My mom migrated here also from the carribean Dominican Republic. She gave my sis and I a very strong foundation. My mom worked 2 jobs, raised 2 girls, and gave us education here in the US and education in Dominican Republic during summer break...idk how she did it all but my mom is a warrior. I have been very blessed to have a mom like her. I think you will be an amazing mom with lots to teach...God Bless you and the family.

My mom is my strong foundation as well :) She came to Canada from China as a teenager and is an interesting mix of traditional and westernized. She works hard for our family and is a very independent woman. I couldn't ask for a better mother.

This is a beautiful video. You and your mom are just the sweetest. Your family reminds me a lot of my family. Although we came from Croatia (very different culture) I find your story similar to mine. We are extremely blessed to have such an amazing and strong foundation at home. Family who support us and cheer for us when things are going good but also who help pick up the pieces when things don't go exactly as planned. This video was great!!!! & Definitely got me teary eyed.... My Mom (God Bless Her Soul!!!) has been my foundation even though she has passed on.... I miss her so much. I lost her 2 days after my daughter, Jasmine's 2nd birthday.... But, with the loss of my mom, I'm reminded daily of her because my daughter reminds me so much of her regardless of how short their time was together.... good luck with the rest of your pregnancy & enjoy your time with your new bundle of joy ❤

I grew up in Vietnam but working on my MBA here in the US now. I actually can relate with the part when you and your sister cooked for your mom when she was busy ☺️ My sisters and I used to to the same thing when I was in elementary school and they were in middle school. My parents were always busy and they didn't have weekends at all, so we were in charge of cooking and I truly LOVED it. I don't see cooking as chores either 😄 Nad my mom is definitely my foundation for where I am today. She is tiny but so strong, she is down to earth yet so elegant at the same time. She always supports me with all my decisions. Aww, watching this video and typing this comment really make me miss her. I will text her now 😋 Thank you chi Dzung!

Hello! Absolutely loved this video. It really hit home for me too. My Ba-Ngoai and Me, immigrated to California from Vietnam as well. They, including my Aunt, are my strong foundation! (I even have a tattoo in tribute of these three strong women in my life!) I have always done my best to keep connected to my Vietnamese culture, especially in food! My Ba-Ngoai has taught me how to make things such as nuoc mam cham, Spring rolls, Pho, Bahn Xeo, and lemongrass chicken! YUM! Seeing you and your mother made me so happy. Love this story so much. We have similar backgrounds. My parents fled their country cause of war. The struggles they made gave me the strenght to do good and work hard. My mom cookes with taste also lol. While I measure everything she's like a handful of this, a pinch of that ;-)
