When I was a child before Vatican II my childhood parish held an Our Lady of Perpetual Help Novena every year in February before Lent. A missionary priest came to conduct the novena. I loved it❤. The church was packed every night. Standing room only. They would have folding chairs on each side of the center aisle and on the side aisles. Beautiful hymns and finished with benediction. After Vatican II this all ceased, including Benediction. 😢

I was born on her feast day and so this is my most favorite title and image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, my Mother of Perpetual Help. What's fascinating is that we have an image of that that is old as I am because my papa gave it to my mama as present while she was pregnant of me. I strive to make her known in various ways. I do pray the rosary, and I have the apostolate of making rosaries and scatter it for free. In our country, Philippines, The National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is one of the Top 2 churches that is most visited by pilgrims and devotees. We are called Pueblo Amante de Maria too. Everything in life are connected if we would contemplate. Im turning 28 this year, please pray for my vocation and that is to become a holy priest. Ad Jesum per Mariam!

I have this image given to me by my daughter who found it in a junk shop. It has a glorious gold background. I have hanging beneath the crucifix in my home. I am so pleased to have this image of the Lady of Perpetual Help.
Pray for my husband who has had major surgery and conversion of all our family members who have fallen from the faith.
There is a university here named after Our Lady of Perpetual Help and She is our patron. I went to High School there and we would start the day with a prayer and would always say at the end of our prayers "Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us." When I was going to college, my mother prayed to our Blessed Mother Mary to give her an idea where to enroll us (financial matters) then a few days after, she read from the newspaper that there were scholarship grants and I qualified. So I didn't have to move out during College. Our Mother Mary is truly someone we can call always to help and intercede for us.
When I was a child , my mother was devoted to our Lady of Perpetual Help. She went to The Shrine of Perpetual Help in Baclaran in the Philippines , every Wednesday. . This is my favorite memory of my mother and our Mother of Perpetual Help. Our Lady of Perpetual Help , pray for my mother and our family. 🙏 😊❤❤❤
Running to my Mother for help I can relate to this. When I feel like something is going on with me I hold my Rosary in my hand. It brings me relief from what I am feeling. I pray my rosary 📿. Fr. Chris I just got done watching this video a few minutes ago and I found it pretty interesting. When I arrived at my parish an hour before the Saturday Vigil Mass I prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet for your dad in hopes that he stays stable. I also asked Jesus to watch over you as well. I also prayed my Rosary earlier in the day for your dad as well. I think you realize that there's a lot of Marian Helpers who going to pray for you dad in the same amount as we prayed for your mom. Keep us all posted on how your dad is doing and if you're having to rush back home at a moment's notice then have the other priests, while celebrating the live streams Masses, let us know so that we can pray even more. Thank you for clearing this up for me! I am a convert (11 years now), but when I was a teen and lived in Louisiana (lots of Catholics), I remember Our Lady of Prompt Succor was very important there. During the war of 1812, Our Lady of Prompt Succor was invoked in New Orleans by the Ursuline nuns… who invited the Protestants to pray the Rosary with them and New Orleans was saved. I have been feeling so strongly for years now that it is Our Lady of Prompt Succor who will bring Catholics and Protestants together and save our nation and the world, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus will triumph. 🌹❤❤✝️

Thank you very much Father Alard for letting us know more about the Lady of Perpetual Help. Here also in Italy there is (amongst many) the Madonna of Pompei. The Madonna of Pompei arrived where in Roman times the ancient city of Pompei was full of sin and darkness. So the Madonna brought light and salvation in the valley of Pompei and many Italians and visitors converted to Jezus Christ, even more after some miracles. Padre Pio was very devote di to the Madonna di Pompei.

Wow, what Fr. Alar is telling us about the image is what my mom told me. Maybe she heard it in church because we go to the Redemptorist church every Wednesday for the novena.
I grew up going to mass/ novena to the Mother of Perpetual Help every Wednesday with my Mom. I continued that til college and after I got married.

Father 1963 a pilgrimage to the church of Saint Francis… I was asked by Franciscan to climb upon the altar to put all of our religious articles to touch the picture of our mother of perpetual help. I kept only a very tiny plastic image for myself and all these years had it placed on every large picture that the redemption spring to our chapels may God bless each and everyone of you.

They should NEVER have come out with any reformation whatsoever. That’s the problem with the Church today another other things. I believe, and as a new Catholic (3 years) I can’t stand it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE tradition and how rich the Faith is. I am on fire in love with it and our Lord. It’s just a shame really what has happened and it is soooooo much worse than ever before. But, this is all supposed to happen. This is all God’s permissive Will I also believe. I just take great comfort in what our Lord said to St. Peter, “Upon this rock I will build My Church, the gates of hell will never prevail against My Church” . So in other words, no matter what happens the Church will never ever go away. Right?

I have this devotion every Wednesday to Our Mother of Perpetual Help not perfect though. Sometimes i fail to say the novena. But Mother Mary never fails to intercede for me before Jesus for all my needs. Thank You God for giving us Mary to be the Mother of Your Son. My wife joined the RCIA when she smelled roses around this icon which my dad made from copper tooling. I was wondering about this devotion as I knew very little about it.

Re: 19:00 and the lost sandal... I heard an interpretation of it that, from Jewish custom in OT times, one of the ways a covenant was sealed is for the parties to trade a shoe. So the sandal falling off His foot is His acceptance of the suffering He us being told of, by the instruments held by the angels.

Thank you Fr. chris for explaining the image of Our Mother of Perpetual Help as i am a devotee of the novena of Our Mother of Perpetual Help every Wednesday. Since I cannot find any church here in the Uk who does the novena i do it through the small booklet of the novena of perpetual help from the redemptorist church in my country who does the novena every wednesday and nowadays it is through the you tube but there are some modern ones that came up but i still follow the old ways of the novena, and i make sure to have it every wednesday. I bought some images of this while we visited the shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Rome and as you say the background is in gold and the photo i bought i planned to put it in a frame and one day i was browsing in one of the charity shop and there was a frame in gold edges and some stones decorations . I just ignore it but it seems that something pulled me to it but i thought what shall i do about this frame but on the third time that i gone near it i just decided to buy it and it was still wrapped in its original transparent protection so brought it home and i remember about the photo of Our Perpetual help and it is perfectly suited to it with the gold bacground of the image it fits so nicely that it has a proper place on my small altar in my room in which i joined the novena from you tube every Wednesday night

Thank you Fr. Chris! I have had a beautiful Image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in our homes for over 20 years and never fully understood the meaning of the Icon. I was just drawn to her. When you mentioned someone praying and not getting an answer, I know, much like St. Monica, sometimes bigger things about to happen take time. I have seen posts on social media of Moms praying for their children for over 40 years. I have prayed for 8 years for a certain problem affecting one of my adult children. It took 8 years for the beautiful outcome. We just don't know. It is all God's timing. We cannot give up.🙏

Thank you for explaining this wonderful masterpiece. I have this icon displayed in the center of my fireplace mantle and have always been drawn to it. It was a miracle I even found it… I was at a thrift store and saw a lady look at it and put it in her cart, and I said a little prayer that I wanted it so bad, but could not afford one at a regular store…she ended up putting it back on the shelf and somebody came and marked it $.99! I love it :-) thank you again.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of my favorite Marian icons/images. I really can't explain why, but my guess is that it's got to do with the weekly Wednesday novenas we attended in my childhood.
