I have German and Japanes fountain pens. The Italian pen is on the way from your international giveaway, i hope. The purple Visconti. So far, my taste is depending from my mood. I loooove the Capless, but in the same time the Lamy pens are very practical. Great video!

Honestly closer to each for its own, although I own more USA made pens than any other.

Japanese = 100% reliable & very high quality
Italian = gorgeous looks but lacks in quality control
German Montblanc = used to have high quality but nowadays they're more focused on making money. Basically they're only cashing in on their old goodwill which will slowly get tarnished. 🙄😱
German Lamy, on the other hand, is still very good 👍🌺

@Luuka11 Italian pens are now much more better than before except visconti entry levels. I had so many Japanese pens and nothing had a problem. Ad you said Montblanc is focused on making money only. Recently got a 146 Legrand with a crack on the barrel and I had to return it. My Otto Hutt design 4 is a superb one but I still love to use Sailors for everyday writing.

    IMO:
Japanese companies tends to have the best craftsmanship and they make the most reliable and functional pen.
German companies tends to have the best engineering and they make the most enjoyable mechanism of a pen.
Italian companies tends to have the best looking designs and they make some of the most eye catching pen.
The perfect pen for me could be an Italian designing the pen body, with a German filling mechanism, that is produce and refine by the Japanese

    I couldn't agree more.
There's one thing that a pen has to do: writing.
Italian pen are a pleasure for eyes. If they only wold have the same quality control on the nib side as japanese or german one always have..
I have a Visconti Mirage. Stunning pen, but nib ink flow problems. (for 170 euros ...)
I have a Leonardo Momento Zero. Stunning pen, and ink flow problem. (same price of Visconti)
Nowdays Leonardo is starting to use (german) Jowo nibs, guess why? Not sure about my Leonardo pen. Maybe it has the previous nib
I have a cheap Aurora pen. Quite refined pen, ink problems. (40 euros for this pen)
Twsbi Diamond, just perfect nib. (70 euros)
Pilot prera, just perfect nib (40 euros)
Lamy safari, just perfect nib (20 euros)
Platinum Prefounte, perfect nid (10 euros)
I'm italian, and i feel ashamed.

My favorite pen is by the brand lalex, not sure if this brand still exists. Italian beauty and works great (it’s 40+ years old). We create things of beauty and can create pens that function. No need to be ashamed. We do many things well.

Thanks, Samuel, for the educational yet fun material. I had stupidly assumed that Mont Blanc was a French company🤦🏻‍♂️ I tend to like Italian pens because to me their nibs are always wet and smooth. Japanese M nibs are too thin - (probably something to do with most Japanese kanji characters each containing more than 10 strokes), yet B Nibs are too broad for me (Japanese use B nibs for addressing on the cards, making it too thick for notebook entries), even though I appreciate the craftsmanship executed in those nibs. Having said that, my favorite pen at the moment is German pen (Otto Hutts), love the feel in my hand, the weight, and the wet smooth nib (the size is just right!!). Lamy is overrated in my experience …😅

@@VincentDuxD no need to troll, we’re all here to learn and share opinions. It’s enriching. I own a Maiora Alpha Orogrigio, and it has been a terrific writer even after leaving it still for 2 weeks. Nino Marino quality controls all Pens by himself and since i have them at styleofzug.ch i’ve only had very positive feedbacks from customers. Another one i love for example is the Montegrappa Extra 1930 or the Extra Otto, both great writers even if they’re in a more expensive range. I also own a Montegrappa Zero with Gold Nib, and so far, never had one problem with it… i was pleasantly surprised by its performance.
