This has to be the most realistic depiction of death on a TV show. No big buildup, no foreshadowing, nothing. For many people, this is exactly how the death of a loved one happens in real life and you're left scrambling trying to find out what the hell happened. Kudos to all the actors and writers of this show. This is why they're winning all the awards this year and going out on top.
Wouldnt say there was no foreshadowing. First episode of the season is all about Logan starting to think about death and wanting to reach out to his family.
@@Serryy I was referring to the actual episode where he seemed perfectly fine and was on his way to a business meeting. There was absolutely nothing to suggest that this wasn't going to be a normal day in the life of Logan Roy. I think most people assumed that Logan would die at some point given that the show is called Succession and it was obvious he was never going to just step aside and let someone else take over, but I doubt anyone thought it was going to be THAT day.
This and The Body on Buffy are easily in oar with one another in terms of realism. Not to mention just two very beautifully made episodes of television.
This episode worked because it really captured the anxiety, fear and uncertainty of an emergency. And to lose such a major character like Logan in this way, a character who will go down as one of the greatest TV characters of all time. Just passed away on an airplane, no real last words, Ozymandias going out without a sound.
Why does everybody expect them to have “normal” reactions when they were constantly neglected when growing up. Belittled, humiliated, exposed, lied to, gaslighted. And the list goes on. Of course they don’t know how to connect with him.
Totally agree, this is an excellent depiction of how it feels when an abusive parent dies. Kendall's "I love you but I can't forgive you" totally broke my heart. That really is how it feels.
You shouldn’t do legitimate (deep) chest compressions on someone whose heart is still beating so you’ll never see deep compressions on a live human actor
15:12 - "Those are not deep enough." Correct. Unfortunately if you do chest compressions on a living person, you can stop their heart. So they had to do "fake" compressions for this scene. Personally, I would have used some type of dummy or just left it out altogether.
The driving plot of the show is the fact that there was no plan for the succession after Logan passes. That's what the kids were vying for at one point or another. And Logan passed before any successor was ever officially chosen, and before the deal with Mattsen went through.
Easily one of the best episodes of any tv series in the past 20 years. Just amazing acting and pacing here. Kieran Culkin was outstanding in this episode. Just flawless acting all around here.
When this episode aired everybody was in shock. Fun fact: The LA Times published an obituary of Logan as if he was a real person. The episode is also brilliantly shot and performed.
Yknow what’s crazier? Somehow, NOTHING ABOUT THIS EPISODE GOT SPOILED. The entire final season of GoT was leaked (in text form). But this episode was kept so well as a secret that you’d think it was Ned Stark himself guarding this episode from being leaked. The cast & crew in the Behind The Episode mention this a lot. They’re so grateful to the cast & crew and even the extras. They genuinely expected a leak, which is why they tried so hard to thrown people off. The episode title, for starters. Even though, as we know, weddings in HBO shows often go about as well as a wedding in Kill Bill. Also, have you seen the teaser trailer for this episode? If not, go watch it! It’s brilliant. Whoever edited that trailer should be rewarded because good lord is it one hell of a misdirect. Literally almost ALL of Logan’s spoken lines in this episode are in that trailer! You’d never see this coming!
I made the mistake of taking an edible before watching this episode as it aired thinking it was going to be a funny crazy Connor wedding, & boy was I wrong and it was a very emotional watch lol
@@vickster5001 yeah, I think the LA TIMES should have waited at least a week. I'm from Spain, I also watched it the next day...but somehow I managed to avoid spoilers. I had been spoiled before with other episodes, so I knew Monday morning media was forbidden for me 😜
This to me was the best episode of the entire series - as far as the acting. It was the simplest story as far as writing, however the acting was amazing. Kudos to all of them.
I believe i read it was shot twice. Once was a real-time continuous staging using many cameras and the other was a more typical broken down script. If believe the director said 80% of the final product was the continuous shot. Amazing work on everyone's part.
I think Willa's joke was more that it'd be messed up to leave him at the altar when his dad just died and a combination of what you guys were thinking.
What moves can Gerri have?? Oh Idk, the son of the CEO sexually harassing her after she asked him to stop maybe. Honestly, Logan’s firing of her was gross & just like him to be honest. Not that any of them are great people 😂😂 He just pissed me off & then proceeded to die. I feel for the kids this episode . It brings me back to the first 2 episodes. They are laid bare in the wake of his death. conner saying that Logan never even liked him was heartbreaking. Kendall & Shiv walking back to The phone like little kids 😢

Such a great point about how realistic it felt. That helplessness was portrayed perfectly.

I’m so glad no one spoiled this episode for you. One of the best episodes of tv I’ve ever seen.
Right? I’m surprised it never came up! So glad we were able to have a genuine reaction to it.
@@PhilipManzano this ep is sooo good, that nobody wants to ruin it to others.
each and every single last actor on this show deserved their respective awards for this episode ALONE
💯💯💯
Willa and Connor somehow have the most open and honest relationship in the show
Haha wow. So true.

I must have gone through every stage of grief during this episode.

Chest compressions might not have been as deep because they didnt want to hurt Brian Cox while shooting the scene
Brian Cox didn't shoot that scene :D They CGI'd his face in the close-up shot.

Fair. Would have been better with the dummy. Agreed.
One of the most shocking episodes of television EVER

Great react! :D
I was so excited for this one. It's definitely one of the best things I've ever watched.
It’s waaaaay up there for me too.

We got it the next day in the uk, unless you watched at 2am and I was spoiled over breakfast by that LA Times obit, which was very annoying.
