Very informative without being overwhelming. This is the best way to get people interested in learning how music is actually structured while still holding their attention. Great video! Thank you.
When Gareth started to explain how to build the augmented chord, my inner voice shouted "raise the fifth!". When he actually confirmed it, this was a satisfying moment. So yes, your videos are teaching things very well. Thank you!
Gonna binge watch all your videos. Have come across two or three videos over the years. The lessons are simple and easily understandable yet very useful. Appreciate the channel a lot.

Thank you for the two simple explanations of the two " mysterious " chord forms . Music is not laid out lineal on a guitar neck as it is on a keyboard, knowing which notes of the chord to altar is a big help .
it helps to know theory.....Example on TELL it LIKE it IS by Heart ( my guitar is tune a semi tone down) The song starts with G AUG chord ( it dosnt resolve to anything..it's just a cool sound)...Then it goes to D min chord,..then Hammer the 9th of D. Then G7 chord Then E minor chord Then C Maj ( cowboy)..Then hammer the 9th of C with your pinky Then C# dim Then E dim Then D min...ect The song is in F MAJOR/D minor as the PARENT KEY It dosnt have to make sense...but in my Trained/conditioned mind.... The G AUGMENT is obtain through using the D melodic min b2 scale In a nutshell....Maj3 stack below G lydian diminant. ( G7) will create Eb AUGMENTED ( it's SYMETRICAL) The E min chord is borrow from D melodic min = E dorian b2. I just memorize 2, 4, b6, 7 chord degree are all possible full dim. It's a bluesy, R and B ish sort of songs... what's up with the classical music THEORY???
Yet another great video. Very well explained as always. What about a video showing why there are only 4 different augmented chords and only 3 different diminished chords to learn? Thanks.

useful chords! there are many lessons to use them in how they function (as passing chord, sub, which mode works well etc.) but just like any other chords, I encourage anyone to just go crazy and experiment with them haha 😂
Are there minor #5 chords in music or they are simply first inversion major chords? Can we add extensions to make #5 a #5 instead of root note of major triad. Like A C E# G B. Does that sound like F Maj add 9 #11 or simply A minor 9#5?
I really have difficulties when I listen dim and aug triads. I use some ear trainer programs and is really difficult to me get a different character for the chords.
@@MusicMattersGB Thank you! I actually mis spoke. I meant to say are diminished chords always major? I just tried playing an A minor diminished. For an A minor diminished are the notes A, C, and E flat?

A pleasure. Glad it’s helpful.
Thank you for making this video. Explaining the triads by counting semitones has made this very clear to me.
Glad it’s helpful

Minor #5 does give you an enharmonic equivalent of a first inversion major chord, which wouldn’t normally be written as a minor #5.
I think it should also be possible to change a major chord to an augmented chord by lowering the bottom of the major chord by a half step.
Unfortunately that doesn’t work in the same way
What are the uses of Major b5 chords? (C E Gb)
They don’t tend to be used but C E F# might well be used eg in e minor.
I really have difficulties when I listen dim and aug triads. I use some ear trainer programs and is really difficult to me get a different character for the chords.
Play them if you can. That association often helps.
I was expecting the diminished chord to consist of C, E and Gb. But diminished chords are always minor?
C Eb Gb
I’m curious too. Are diminished cords always minor? Or maybe with a major diminished chord you just count up 6 and 3 semitones?
Diminished chords are not the same as minor chords but the bottom two notes are the same. The differences are covered in the video.
@@MusicMattersGB Thank you! I actually mis spoke. I meant to say are diminished chords always major? I just tried playing an A minor diminished. For an A minor diminished are the notes A, C, and E flat?
Major Minor Diminished and Augmented are each different chords. A C Eb is an A diminished chord.
Isn't it easier for a diminished chord to simply tell people that each note is a minor 3rd apart?
You could do
