Thanks mate, you're a freaking legend!! Cannot fathom what Volkswagen engineers were thinking with these bolts.... If the "thief" is already at this stage, then they are determined enough to do this. These only prevent them from quickly bypassing the steering lock, you still need the key transponder to operate the ECU security and make the engine run. Anyway, your method is brilliant. Not sure about other VAG cars of this ilk, but my Golf is nigh on impossible to work on these bolts any other way. Again, thank you so much!
Looks like this would work on my 2006 rabbit. The key won't turn all the way but it'll turn on accessories etc. The key will even spin in circles sometimes.
I'm about to replace mine tomorrow and I need to know if I can do this even if the car key cannot turn (and disconnecting the battery as well, because of the airbag) Please answer 🙏
I didn’t notice airbag on no this; my question is: Can the ignition be changed out without having to remove steering wheel? I have an ‘07 gti TFSI- I don’t wanna mess with the airbag, but it looks like I’m gonna disconnect the battery anyways. ONE HAND BOY - U DA MAN!

I've managed to take everything off even the anti theft screws, only problem I have is that I can't seem to realise my key from the lock and its just spinning in circles, even when I'm trying to use a pin to realise it nothing is working any ideas guys? I'm stuck
Cauko, ak smiem tykať, chcel by som sa ťa spýtať, že aký kábel OBD na diagnostiku používaš, ktorý ti komunikuje s VCDS, poprípade ak by si mohol tak mi ho aj poslať (názov alebo čo) prosím. Pretože som si kúpil jeden a ten mi s VCDS programom v kompe nechce komunikovat, tak som si stiahol nejaky iny, ale na nom mi číta údaje, ktoré su mi akurát tak hovno platné!
You really do. (or insert a right angle metal-cutter/engraver into the top (very hard to find), cut out a channel, then use a right angle flat head screw-driver to undo --- I did this with one bolt, but it was a real @#$@)
@@JustinShaedo thanks for the reply. I did managed to make the holes and take bolts out how this guy did it...took forever but anyway I just got my new key cylinder and it looks like I will have to cut the bolts to screw them back in
@@Wolfgio probably too late, but get new bolts from the hardware store! M8 fit mine okay, and with a spacer (long washer) they protrude out the top, making any future removals very easy. FWIW I share your trials and suffering on this one!

Always disconnect the battery before removing the air bag. Replace air bag, turn ignition to on position - 'then' reconnect the battery.
Ikr as soon as i seen his acc board light up, I almost thought it was the end for him lol!
Please explain. What is difference with ignition on or off to the airbag when reconnecting the battery ???

The key barrel is stuck in ignition lock and the key won’t turn to the position where you can put the pin in, what do I do?
