      @@LeftistUprising I had the fortune of discovering Uli by mistake almost, when my dad bought a Scorpions compilation CD back in 1996, thinking it was a compilation of 80s love songs, but in reality it was a compilation of the Uli-era songs! I was only 11 at the time, and that sound got me hooked since the first time I listened to it. Recently a video recording surfaced here on UA-cam, of the Scorpions playing for a Swiss TV show in 1977. Have you seen it? It's just perfect.

      @@ferrreira I'll check the Swiss TV show out which features Uli Jon Roth.
      I didn't know this back then, but I found out that Uli Jon Roth started the neo-classical fad of heavy metal in the late '70s.

    • @ferrreira
      @ferrreira 2 роки тому +1

      @@LeftistUprising here it is: ua-cam.com/video/e5-Mly7seMU/v-deo.html - and you're right about Uli being the father of neoclassical guitar. I think he predates even Ritchie Blackmore in doing that. Uli used way more classical and baroque references such as arpeggio runs in diminished minor scales, and also greek modes such as myxolydian and aeolian. Uli's such an inspiration!

I am 20 years old and I have listened to Classic Rock since I was 13 years old. love this kind of music. Uli is now one of my favorite guitarists ill listen to him regardless of how bad his singers are. he is a great guitarist. im a guitarist too. I drive my parents nuts because they have heard this music a million times. but it did spark today's rock and roll.

    Great guitar player. It is surprising that Uli after singing Polar Nights live in Tokyo didn't understand that he cannot reach high notes with his voice. In a recent interview Uli said that he was full of himself when he left scorpions in 1978. That makes me understand.

    • @ferrreira
      @ferrreira 2 роки тому +5

      It's interesting what you said, because on his website Uli states that, even before forming Electric Sun, he was aware that his singing style was not mainstream and too "spoken word", but he couldn't find a suitable singer for their unorthodox style of music. Anyway, I like his singing style as much as I like Klaus Meine's or Freddie Mercury's. It's unique.

    • @MrPook79
      @MrPook79 5 років тому

      Excuse me, but that is patently ridiculous. Hendrix vocals often show up on many rock/pop "most underrated" lists. Though he didn't have range, the timbre and passion of his voice are both very rich. Its actually hard to cover his songs, vocally, because of this. Uli had neither of those vocal gifts. Uli was extremely gifted in playing guitar, as everyone knows. But if he had been merely average, nobody would want to let him sing lead ... as is the case within 99% of all bands, unknown and in garages everywhere.

      @magatrone100 Рік тому +2

      Blackmore wasn’t very well known when uli got good first gig at 13. Blackmore wasn’t the first neoclassical player. He played some scales that would lend to that genre but it took a while for him to evolve into the semi neoclassical player that he became. Uli was a better neoclassical player than Blackmore and Randy Rhoads was miles ahead of both

    Though he can no doubt sing, he has a boring voice. I would have loved to hear how the Scorpions would have developed with him by their side. Oh, they were extremely successful but listen to the pink-floyd-like fly to the rainbow from ´77... this would have been way less mainstream I believe.
