It's wild to me that there are so many knitters out there willing to give their time and effort to help designers that it can actually be competitive to be selected to be a test knitter. What a generous bunch the knitting community is!

I have test knit 4 patterns now and am currently doing my 5th. I was curious to watch your video to see if I was missing anything. You did a great and comprehensive video to explain all of this. Well done!

Thank you, Erin, for the “everything I wanted to know about test knitting” episode. Every time someone mentioned test knitting, I felt like I was missing out by not getting involved. Knowing the details, besides being very interesting to me, has let me let go of the idea. Hope you are enjoying our lovely sunny (finally!) weekend here in southern Ontario.

It's like you've been through my search history, just yesterday I was scouring the internet on how to become a test knitter. Lol! Thank you for another lovely & informative video, you made me pull the trigger and finally set up the foundation for my very own knitting IG account. Love from Finland!

this was interesting but its funny I thought you would be discussing something different - I wanted to hear what you actually do when test knitting: of the test knitting youve done what did you learn that was important and helpful to improve the patterns? how did the communication with the designer go? if the designer speaks a different language how did that go? how often do you 'report' errors or suggest improvements? what are the pointers of how to be a good test knitter for the designer and to help the pattern be best it can be?

That’s so funny. Sorry I didn’t touch on these things
      1. Mostly I’ve caught typos. Occasionally I’ll note if something seemed too long or wide. It’s rare that there is structurally something wrong.
      2. I usually don’t chat to the designer much tbh. If I find something wrong with the pattern I post where they want me to. Some I’ve gotten friendly with but most I just see in the test group chat!
      3. Everyone I have tested for spoke English well! The one German designer I tested for needed a bit more grammar help but easy to communicate overall.
      4. Only when I see them. I would say on average I spot one or two things per test so not much at all.
      5. This is a great question - wish I would have talked about this a bit more. First check your gauge throughout to give accurate feedback, and second be sure to read the pattern throughly. When not testing I tend to skim a lot. When testing I make an effort to read every word.
Hope that answers your questions! 💕

@@kuriaknits ah! yes, thanks! that gives me a good idea of what I should be doing... I test knitted once and the designers native language was french and I found it difficult, she didnt respond to any of my comments (around 3 correction/suggestions) so I didnt know if she even read my input it seemed strange. I am planning to do another one soon so thanks for the good answers to my questions it helped!

Hi there! This was such a helpful video. I’ve decided I want to do some test knitting. I have an IG account, but not specifically for knitting. Should I create a new one focused solely on knitting? Thanks!!

Thanks for a very informative episode. I am interested in test knitting. But the yarns available to me are so limited in their fibre content that I have always hesitated to apply. But this year I am going to try some summer patterns that are being tested

I’ve seen lots of people test in acrylic! Not all designers want it but some don’t mind

You said your sweater is a test knit. What is the pattern and who is it by? It's lovely and I might like to knit it.

Can you please explain why so many people want to test knit? What do you get out of it (other than the pattern)?
