It’s like you read my mind. Earlier this month I was getting so frustrated that I was thinking about quitting. I took 2 weeks off to decide if I want to continue. I do and I am. Thanks for your encouragement to all of those who are traveling this rocky road. BTW, I’d love to see you interview your girlfriend about her process of becoming fluent in Spanish.

Over the course of the last 50 years I have been on and off trying to learn Spanish. I used to have a Mexican boyfriend, but be aware, not everyone is motivated to teach another. So while he spoke Spanish to his friends in front of me he simply was not willing to teach me nor practice with me. He had no obligation to speak to me in Spanish so we defaulted to English. However he did benefit in learning English from me. He could never rid himself of his native accent however. So I am on and off with learning and do not have any particular agenda. Mainly I listen to UA-cam videos. And I went 3 decades doing nothing. I took 2 years of Spanish in high school and a year of Spanish in college. I think I benefited from learning during my teenage years as I developed a convincing accent, that is, I don't sound gringa. That gets me in trouble because I am still not fluent. I am losing my ear for Mexican Spanish because I have spent the last 5 years listening to a Castilian Spanish speaker. What is odd is I understand nearly every word he says no matter how fast. But I am challenged by other accents. Nevertheless, although I am old now, I am still trying on my own. It is necessary for us to keep our minds actively working.

No es fácil estudiar idiomas, llevo poco más de un año estudiando inglés, pero todavía no lo hablo con fluidez, pero entiendo muchos videos y películas, todavía estoy en el camino, es un proceso como dijiste en tu video, yo también me canso, pero estudio todos los días, la constancia es la clave. Cuesta.
