The United States Army has changed its recruiting slogan again, but it should feel familiar. That's because the Army is reviving the slogan "Be all you can be" that was used during the 80's-90's. You can see how the Army decided to come up with the "new" slogan in this video.

"Be All You Can Be" was the slogan that got me in after watching "In the Army Now" with Pauly Shore. "Army of One" leaned into the whole narcissism culture way too much and "Army Strong" was always basic as hell. I didn't even know they'd moved on from that idiotic slogan, but glad to have the classic "Be All You Can Be" back. It was always the best choice.

I always thought "Army of One" was basically the opposite of what the military actually wants from their members. Must have been fun to have been a drill instructor when all of those recruits with an "Army of One" mindset reported to basic. Bet they got that shit smoked out of them real quick.

@@Armyguy91 - I was assigned to a tri-service command and (as a joke) made up a matrix demonstrating what award a person will receive based on branch of service (with Army getting the highest, followed by Air Force, then Navy at the bottom) and grade (you can probably figure that one out). A lot of people higher up the chain than me were not amused. Also, no one accepted the challenge to prove me wrong.

@Doug Earnest What Doug said! When you're right, you're right.
In my last 3 years in the Army, I was in a NATO unit. The ONLY thing most officers were concerned about were their future political careers. I hadn't seen so much butt kissing in my life.
I did run into a few GREAT officers. Two of them were Air Force. They taught me a lot and looked out for me and my family. Even though I was Army and a SPC. And one was a German MAJ. who was once a US Army Ranger CPT. he got paid more in the German Army.

When I was in my BNs S2 office we got a JAG officer assigned to us because they didn't know where to put his dumb ass. He was a PT failure but finally just passed the bar exam. Literally the first thing out of his mouth was what awards can you, CPL, put me in for. I just have the ASR and it will look bad if I show up at my duty station with nothing. OK, CPT. I think I put him in for the Legion of Merit or something for passing his PT test finally. Dumbshit called me a few years later after I was out and asked why he never got it!

Dude, that had me, too. I was USAF Security Police 1987-97, and we saw changes that happened just for the sake of change, "Fixing things that weren't broken, until they were". The change from Security Police to Security Forces and going from a military looking service dress uniform to one that makes everyone look like a United Airlines Pilot, are perfect examples of what I'm talking about. We started to realize that the changes in the USAF occurred because someone wanted a good Officer Performance Report bullet point.
