Hi From 1:53 to 2:08 it is a Mirage 2000 cockpit, not a Rafale. Rafale carries 1.5x its own weight in payload, apparently the only one with this capability. The empty plane weights 10,5 tons. Both engines are very reliable and not the most powerful but the plane sleek aerodynamics compensate by coupling with canard wings to optimise the over-wing air streams. So it flies at low speed with less drag for less power. The plane does not integrate dedicated spoiler to decelerate; the air brake is a combined position of the canards and the ailerons in opposition with elevons. So the aircraft weight is reduced even more than the sole inclusion of composite materials in the structure…

With the Swiss buying a total fleet of F-35s they put themselves in danger of having too many planes out of service. The F-35 has the worst ratio of battle ready planes vs planes in the repair shop. Like I said they ARE stealthy but parts are scarce and the down time is not good. They have had problems with computers and air for the pilots and especially problems with the stealthy wing and tail edges melting at supersonic speeds. They are limited to subsonic speeds but then because of their stealth they dont need supersonic speed as much as regular fighters.On the other hand the Gripen has the best record for durability and less maintenance problems then any aircraft out there. It is also capable of refueling and re loading missiles from back roads. It also has great electronic warfare capabilities. I really like the Gripen too. I am an American and I love and respect all of the great fighters out there. Even the Russian planes. You have to look past their leaders and dictatorship to respect their technology. They make great military equipment but their cars are junk. Everything in Russia goes into the military. China just passed Russia in military strength but their military weapons are not as high a quality as the Russians but then the Russians lace spare parts and their planes will not be able to sustain air power long because many of them will be on the ground. People do not realize how much maintenance goes into military aircraft. The cost of an F-15 costs $29,000 per hour to fly, includes maintaninence. The F-16 cost around $10,000 an hour, F-22 $40,000 per hour, F-35 $ per hour $33,00 per hour, F-18 $12,000 hr, The French Rafale only costs $12,000 per hour, Eurofighter cost $15,00 hr and the Gripen only costs $6000 per hour to operate. The lowest in the world. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Gripen plus its durability. Too many people short change the Gripen. It cant carry as large a weapons load as the other planes but it serves a very good purpose in many other ways. It will be in the air still fighting when other aircraft will be on the ground with other maintenance costs and time. I forgot to mention that the F-35 among all of its other problems has engine problems also. If I were a European country like Switzerland I would not put all of my money in one plane. The F-35. They want 30 planes, they should only get around 5 F-35s and the rest Gripens and Rafles.

This is a good thing about NATO, they have the "standards" for everything, from ammunition's, digital link system, etc, they could be made from different NATO member countries but it's interchangeable, even if the missile is a French or American made, every NATO member country can use it with only slight modifications. Like in the video, a French Rafale can successfully land and take off from an American carrier which is good. NATO may not have the numbers to confront Russia or China but this standardization is a big plus for any conflict.

It has already made weapons compatible with NATO standards and they can now use NATO systems, it remains to sell this idea to China. The way Rafales take off from their own carriers is incredible. The carriers have a ski ramp, and as the Rafales accelerate they have their landing gear as compressed as it can get. Then at the tip of the ramp, it extends suddenly and jumps the plane into the air!

I had no idea that the Rafale M can land and launch from an American carrier. That means the Charles De Gaulle can receive and launch US Navy jets, if need be. That's great.
Actually, French Rafale is the only foreign jet that is approved to land/take off from US carriers. And American jets indeed can also operate on the Charles de Gaulle. This is because US and France are the only two countries operating steam powered (american made) catapults on their carriers.

Al of the European jets are excellent planes from the Gripin, Rafael, Eurofighter. They have a different beauty then the American fighters. The canards and sleek bodies are really cool but then you have the Russians who have the Mig Cobras and Su 29s and the Americans who have the F-15, F-16, F-18, F-35 which has a lot of problems but as a stealth fighter it makes up for those defects and then you have the best fighter of all the F-22. Its pure stealth is amazing as is the B-2. I hate it that the B-1 has been retired and then you have the ugliest fighter of all time the Wart Hog A-10 but when ground troops know it is near by they feel much safer. It is the most effective ground attack plane in the world.!! The F-35s and F-22s can go in and destroy Sam missile sites so the other planes can go in and destroy everything else. Everyone in the western world should have at least a few F-35s even with some of their problems the stealthy part is well worth the investment. I do not think the Swiss deal is a good one with them putting all of their money into just one plane. I think they would be much better served by buying around 5-7 F-35s and the rest Gripins and Rafales. Or even the new Super Hornets.

When one considers all the crap the military wastes money it comes as a huge relief when I read stories about things that make so much sense. The NATO allies being able to operate off of each others aircraft carriers makes sense in so many ways.

From 1:53 to 2:08 it is a Mirage 2000 cockpit, not a Rafale.
Rafale carries 1.5x its own weight in payload, apparently the only one with this capability.
The empty plane weights 10,5 tons.
Both engines are very reliable and not the most powerful but the plane sleek aerodynamics compensate by coupling with canard wings to optimise the over-wing air streams. So it flies at low speed with less drag for less power.
The plane does not integrate dedicated spoiler to decelerate; the air brake is a combined position of the canards and the ailerons in opposition with elevons. So the aircraft weight is reduced even more than the sole inclusion of composite materials in the structure…

wow that carrier landing
With the Swiss buying a total fleet of F-35s they put themselves in danger of having too many planes out of service. The F-35 has the worst ratio of battle ready planes vs planes in the repair shop. Like I said they ARE stealthy but parts are scarce and the down time is not good. They have had problems with computers and air for the pilots and especially problems with the stealthy wing and tail edges melting at supersonic speeds. They are limited to subsonic speeds but then because of their stealth they dont need supersonic speed as much as regular fighters.On the other hand the Gripen has the best record for durability and less maintenance problems then any aircraft out there. It is also capable of refueling and re loading missiles from back roads. It also has great electronic warfare capabilities. I really like the Gripen too. I am an American and I love and respect all of the great fighters out there. Even the Russian planes. You have to look past their leaders and dictatorship to respect their technology. They make great military equipment but their cars are junk. Everything in Russia goes into the military. China just passed Russia in military strength but their military weapons are not as high a quality as the Russians but then the Russians lace spare parts and their planes will not be able to sustain air power long because many of them will be on the ground. People do not realize how much maintenance goes into military aircraft. The cost of an F-15 costs $29,000 per hour to fly, includes maintaninence. The F-16 cost around $10,000 an hour, F-22 $40,000 per hour, F-35 $ per hour $33,00 per hour, F-18 $12,000 hr, The French Rafale only costs $12,000 per hour, Eurofighter cost $15,00 hr and the Gripen only costs $6000 per hour to operate. The lowest in the world. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Gripen plus its durability. Too many people short change the Gripen. It cant carry as large a weapons load as the other planes but it serves a very good purpose in many other ways. It will be in the air still fighting when other aircraft will be on the ground with other maintenance costs and time. I forgot to mention that the F-35 among all of its other problems has engine problems also. If I were a European country like Switzerland I would not put all of my money in one plane. The F-35. They want 30 planes, they should only get around 5 F-35s and the rest Gripens and Rafles.
today nearly 20% of the F35 are in the garage. US Airforce received instructions to decrease flight hours so that they do not reach the 2000 flight hours to avoid the costly revisions and repairs. this is a big joke, the Swiss will pay several billions to buy a Flight Similator. Already two years late for F35 deliveries in Belgium.
Swiss taxpayers will surely be delighted in a while when they'll realise the astronomical costs of the F35. First of all with the purchase, to which will be added the astronomical maintenance costs, without forgetting it has still several technical issues, the details being kept under wrap by the Pentagon. Last but not least, this aircraft has never proven itself in war zones. Why such an aircraft for a country the size of a postage stamp. As usual, US diplomatic tactics are very efficient.
This is a good thing about NATO, they have the "standards" for everything, from ammunition's, digital link system, etc, they could be made from different NATO member countries but it's interchangeable, even if the missile is a French or American made, every NATO member country can use it with only slight modifications. Like in the video, a French Rafale can successfully land and take off from an American carrier which is good. NATO may not have the numbers to confront Russia or China but this standardization is a big plus for any conflict.
What did you do, why did you give out the military secret to the Russian army. It has already made weapons compatible with NATO standards and they can now use NATO systems, it remains to sell this idea to China. It is necessary to give more Rafale to the NATO army, instead of the F-35. Then there will be a 'mosquito' fleet, as in 'Star Wars'.
Actually, French Rafale is the only foreign fighter that is approved to land/take off from US carriers. But you are right: except that, standardization is a good thing within NATO.

The way Rafales take off from their own carriers is incredible. The carriers have a ski ramp, and as the Rafales accelerate they have their landing gear as compressed as it can get. Then at the tip of the ramp, it extends suddenly and jumps the plane into the air!
France hasn't used a ramped carrier in decades so I'm assuming you're referring to other carriers.
Half fueled and lightly armed.. there's a reason we use a catapult.
UK carriers were built with ski ramps back in the 1970's, nothing new with them.

I had no idea that the Rafale M can land and launch from an American carrier.
That means the Charles De Gaulle can receive and launch US Navy jets, if need be.
That's great.
Actually, French Rafale is the only foreign jet that is approved to land/take off from US carriers. And American jets indeed can also operate on the Charles de Gaulle. This is because US and France are the only two countries operating steam powered (american made) catapults on their carriers.

American planes cannot land on the Charles De Gaulle, the French aircraft carrier is much smaller than the Americans and American planes are too big and not maneuverable enough, it would take the best American pilots to land successfully.
That tiny drone is the Black Hornet Nano. According to the wiki page it is VERY expensive.

Al of the European jets are excellent planes from the Gripin, Rafael, Eurofighter. They have a different beauty then the American fighters. The canards and sleek bodies are really cool but then you have the Russians who have the Mig Cobras and Su 29s and the Americans who have the F-15, F-16, F-18, F-35 which has a lot of problems but as a stealth fighter it makes up for those defects and then you have the best fighter of all the F-22. Its pure stealth is amazing as is the B-2. I hate it that the B-1 has been retired and then you have the ugliest fighter of all time the Wart Hog A-10 but when ground troops know it is near by they feel much safer. It is the most effective ground attack plane in the world.!! The F-35s and F-22s can go in and destroy Sam missile sites so the other planes can go in and destroy everything else. Everyone in the western world should have at least a few F-35s even with some of their problems the stealthy part is well worth the investment. I do not think the Swiss deal is a good one with them putting all of their money into just one plane. I think they would be much better served by buying around 5-7 F-35s and the rest Gripins and Rafales. Or even the new Super Hornets.
The French do not need dishonest trade pressure to sell their products....
