I don't know if he's trying to play Shakespeare as a drunk or if he's actually drunk

He played Shakespeare in Something Rotten and his character was like that, like slurring his words together and and acting cocky.

I'm years late to this comment section but Christian starting to sing before Karey has any time to say anything else is such a power move.
It's always fun to revisit the videos of the Something Rotten! Cast because they're so clearly comfortable around each other that they're not afraid to have fun.

Ok, I transcribed it on my lunch break…
A shepherd has a wooden cane he herds with
A barber surgeon has his drill and blade
But I, my friends, am what you call a wordsmith
And the brain is the tool of my trade
So I peruse the English Language
    Beyond Oxford, beyond Cambridge
As I drink from my imagination’s cup
And if I can’t find the word that I’m looking for
    I simply make one up
    Like monumental
    Like marriage bed
    Like sanctimonious
    That’s right, that’s what I said
    And then there pander
    And pageantry
Those are words you never heard until you heard of me
Those are words you never heard if not for me
    Obsequiously
(Spoken) Yeah, that’s a big one
It means to ceremoniously be and then some
And what is stealthy? And savagery?
Those are words you never heard until you heard of me
Those are words you never heard if not for me
I make it up in my head
    And then it’s coined
    Sometimes borrowed
    But not purloined
And I have a lot of fun
    When I break it down
To the adverbs and the adjectives, the predicates and nouns
    A giant lizard
    With a crooked smile
    Have you seen one?
    (Yeah, a crocodile!)
But take the Spanish to the English alligator
That’s a word you never heard unless you heard of me
That’s a word you never heard if not for me
    (He’s a genius)
    (How does he do it?)
(He makes it look so easy, like there’s nothing to it)
    Well, it’s my gift
    To society
All these words you never heard until you heard of me
All these words you never heard if not for me
    (If not for he)
I just make it up in my head
    And then it’s coined
    Eh, sometimes borrowed
    But not purloined
I have a lot of fun
    When I break it down
To the adverbs and the adjectives, the predicates and nouns
    Hot blooded
    Am I obscene?
    Excuse my swagger
    That’s right, that’s what I mean
    Are you bedazzled?
    Well you should be
These are words you never heard until you heard of me
These are words you never heard if not for me
    (If not for he)
These are words you never heard until you heard of me
These are words you never heard if not for me
    (If not for he)
    (Spoken) You’re welcome

I agree. I felt Kirkpatrick was a tad too snarky toward Borle.

It was cut from the show. This is an excerpt from a cabaret set made up of songs that were cut from “Something Rotten,” during the show’s run on Broadway
